New Mexico (MSG), Sun., Nov. 17, 12 Noon, FS-1

The key to RJ's game is not the things he does well. It's when he DOESN'T do stupid things. He didn't do that today and if that continues it will be a huge boost.

Ejafor brought his lunch pail today and against a long and athletic NM front line played the entire second half and did excellent work inside.

Smith is fast, tough and good but can be exposed on D against taller players.

I think some folks just don't understand Kadary or his game - if you're worrying about him, stop. Uncharacteristic turnovers today but he will do what is needed to win games, period.

Scott is an outstanding defender.

Main concern is we need more from the bench going forward. Not looking at a box score but I think the starters accounted for all but maybe 8 points and that is not sustainable.

Good win against good competition, helps get ready for the Bahamas!
We just don't have a bench. 8 deep, and that's stretching it.

He wasn’t happy…during a timeout stayed on outside and looked disengaged - so atypical for him. Don’t think that he should have sat nor do I think Dunlap should have played just 9 minutes.
Ridiculous he played 14 minutes. Could care less about Dunlap. PLAYING THE BIG BOYS NOW.

Memo to msg staff. Open up the 8th ave entrance. No clue why it was closed it only takes like 6 people to man it and 2 of them were already there staring at people trying to get in the locked doors

What's strange Is pretty much almost the entire last row in 114 was empty ( we like that ) but when I checked stub hub last night only 2 tickets were for sale in the entire section

I think some players that had question marks over their heads or were not impressing going into the game, showed their value today. RJ - 7 assists??? They'd better check his locker to make sure this is not an imposter. Zuby looked like the Rutgers Zuby. There was a lot of talk about Kadary being quiet. His play has been invaluable all along, but we wasn't filling the stat sheet. Stuffed it today and was still amazing otherwise. Deivon was Deivon. Arron came through when it got close.
Zuby has to do it in more than one game............

Great win! Give me this RJ every game and I will be extatic! He was under control, poised, and making the smart play repeatedly. Finding his teammates for open shots, scoring, rebounding and played really good defense!

We need to clean up the turnovers, and find a way to shoot the 3 ar a higher percentage but what a great win to head down to the Bahamas with! Lots of positives today.

7 turnovers is a career day number of turnovers and not easy to do. Recall Rysheed having 9 once in a big game but the details are escaping me. If a board whipping boy type had 7 he'd be getting hammered.
That whipping boy started last year off with 6, 4, and 5 turnovers. I disliked him more than anyone and wrote repeatedly that I didn’t have a problem with his turnovers.

Kadary never tries to do too much. He’s the exact opposite.

Not sure I agree with the crowd being electric. The New Mexico fans were loud a few times. St. John’s fans for the most part are not loud. It’s a little embarrassing at times to me. I want it like that Pitt game again.
I hope the student section will provide more energy in the future.

But this isn’t last year and the player we’ve seen through exhibitions and real games this year is much better than the player we saw last year.
I firmly believe most posters here will reflect fairly on the way all players, including Luis, perform. He played a fantastic all around game yesterday and posters acknowledged that. One of the things that I took away from his game was the fact that there were times he put his head down to take his man, which is more than just fine with me; sometimes he followed through, generally scoring the ball but at least getting a legit shot. BUT, there were also a few times he tried where it didn’t happen and instead of throwing up crazy $hit, he abandoned one on one and passed the ball, resetting the offense if you will. IMO, that was as impressive from a team development and chemistry perspective as the times he scored.
I don’t want to go overboard with the hyperbole but I was hard pressed last night talking with a buddy about the game to recall a better all around game played by a Johnny, by my judgement, using my method, the eye test. The stats speak to the offense but his defense on Dent was the difference IMO. Dent tried multiple times to take him, to take over the game at different times and Luis would have none of it, playing smart fundamental defense, sliding his feet to stay in front and using his height to great advantage. And NOT diving for steals.
Obviously, the hope is this becomes the norm, not unrealistically necessarily the results on both ends of the court per se, but the all around approach.
