NCAA Tournament Discussion

I counted 22 steps in between 6 dribbles after the steal at the end of the Duke game. That's 3.7 steps in between each dribble. I know....let's throw out the rules and let them play.

Just like the NBA.
Owens would not have been as good here as he is at TT IMO. Owens has much better supporting talent with tons of legit size and great coaching. He is being developed there and there's a plan. He said it all being quoted, "What I love about the TT coaches is they don't just tell you what you need to work on, but they also show you exactly how to do it" clearly implying that he was never developed at SJ.
One question, if Tariq Owens has gotten this tremendous developmental coaching, why is he the same player he was with SJU? I am not talking about transferring at all, obviously he had every right, played by the rules and it worked out great for him. But, individually, he is the same player, same strengths and weaknesses. So, if he feels the need to take cheap shots that really amount to so much BS on an individual improvement level, good for him. There is enough to criticize this staff that is real.

Up from 50% FG to 63%...that's big. Also up 10% FT from 69% to 79%. He's not a gamebreaker or superstar, but he's a role player that has improved under guidance of real coaches. You can't say it's just him on his own practicing more, because we all know how hard he worked on his own time. His quote also implied coaches critiqued his game but didn't show him how to refine it. At TT they did and the results are there.

Because it fits the narrative of certain posters to make things up. Did he have a nice block or two the other day, absolutely. But still the same string bean getting pushed around, with the identical stats but did not see him hoisting threes.
This is not be construed as a defence of our staff in any manner shape or form.

See above...up significantly in FG% and FT%. Agree he's still a stringbean and wouldn't be a savior here and still isn't...but he's clearly performed better at TT objectively.

Yeah, cause Stevens was REEEALY worthy of that assignment. He did such great work this year. It's not like he got any bad publicity, or anything like that.

Tech is screwed if the officials still associate Owens with St. John's.

Also points per minute played . . . up 26%. Rebounds per minute played up 17%.

I don't think he's that much a better player this year either, just better utilized as an interior player and pick and roll big (which he did do on occassion last year as well) vs. standing around the 3pt line and asked to make his own decisions with where to go with the ball. It's system driven, better system for him.

He now has a defined role and is being properly utilized and coached. The results speak for themselves.

Auburn is a half away from the nc game.
Pearl with a second chance is taking advantage of it

I say lets roll the dice, and bring rick in.

Was bound to happen at some point, but Auburn cold from 3 tonight (4-21). Either Harper or Brown are going to have to heat up for them to have a shot. UVA defense tough.
