NCAA - Game 1 - San Diego St. (Friday)

SJU 61
SDSU 53

It is hard to be excited knowing even if we win duke will destroy us without obekpa. It will be like the thrashing we got in Philly. Expect duke to get 100+ points.

I kind of feel bad for fans like you that just can never enjoy anything with this team! I too, was angry and pissed at first hearing of CO being suspended. I get the pain of the footnote that we constantly must endure.

But as I calmed down I realized we are still dancing and have a great chance to do something we haven't done in 15 years...win an NCAA game. I personally will enjoy watching and rooting for them in a meaningful game and will not worry about anything past that.

Look at the bright side, if Duke annihilates us, people will think it's because CO isn't there. If we are competitive then it really paints this program as one going forward on the national stage.

But first, let's enjoy and get through Friday with a W. That's what I'm going to do.

also we need quick hands. a lot of 12-to-6 swipes down low to try and get steals. hopefully refs will be in a lenient mood

Harrison needs to have a Harrison game for us to win. Would also be nice if either Phil or Jordan could join him. Need two of those guys to shoot well especially from three.

As much as I'm upset, at the midway point in the Big East season, at 3-6, getting into the tournament seemed impossible.

Now we are headed to the dance.

I'm not really hopeful for a win this weekend, but we aren't playing Villanova, and the guys who will fill in have all week to prepare mentality that they will get major minutes. Not sure how much that helps but it can't hurt.

The thing is, unlike the last three seasons, it's the Monday of the start of the NCAA tournament, and we are playing for the National Championship. It sounds empty, but once you arrive in Charlotte and the arena is filling up, you feel it, no matter what the odds.

with all the talk about Amar and JDL playing in the middle how about Christian Jones shock the world and earn his scholarship. If he's ever gonna wake up now is the time

I agree. What a waste of height. A physical specimen if there ever was one but I see his future in New York State Lotto commercials.

I was at the duke game in january. we could have won. Mullin was quoted as saying he didn't see much difference in the talent level of the teams. But without CO duke and Okafor will own the paint. Okafor will score 30 or 40 points. We will be in charlotte and the refs will screw us with fouls. It will be embarassing. The committee knows this and set their favorite team to get to week two without breaking a sweat.thank you CO for what you have done.

All it takes is a few tough drives to the hoop by Dom and all of the sudden okafor is on the bench with 2 and we could hang around long enough for duke to get tight and nervous with thoughts of another choke in front of their home crowd.

Stranger things have happened. But. San Diego state first. Beat them!

Zach really can't give Lavin a break lol

I'd say. :)

I generally like Zach and think he provides valuable insight, but the obviousness of his anti-Lavin stance is sometimes too much to handle. Makes him a more difficult read than he should be. Like my beat guys (as opposed to columnists) to be more objective and even-handed.

Zach needs to ease up. Completely unnecessary to have everything be a hit piece on Lavin. Just becomes tiresome.

I have gone pretty easy on Lavin all year but how does he not know how they play? I think I watched them twice this year and I could give a better description of how they play than he did. Hopefully someone on the staff has a better scouting report than Steve.

I've seen them several times and Lavin is actually correct. They play like SJU. They try to push the ball early in the shot clock, and try to create offense off of turnovers. When they don't get a an easy look, they settle into a half court offense which is somewhat plodding and since they are not the best shooting team, they are not high scoring. They are aggressive on defense and they often make the games ugly to win them. Sound familiar? If we can get our offense going the way in was in our run prior to the Villanova game we could do well against them even with their superior size. FWIW, even though Polee is the 6'7" in their tall lineup described above, he basically floats around the perimeter looking for a a pass and a spot up three. He isn't a force inside on offense.

Fwiw I went on the San Diego state board and their fans want to press us and keep the game fast so we tire out in the second half. So maybe Lavin was right.
