NCAA - Game 1 - San Diego St. (Friday)

@NYPost_Brazille: Analysts high on St John's chances Fridayhttp://t.co/gYivphhuVF #sjubb

Waiting on commentary re title of tweet.

No need to hash it out. :)

You are killing me tonight. The bride keeps asking me if I am ok as I laugh out loud. The VW bus still has me cracking up.

You should have seen me yesterday when I heard the news and really was kicking furniture in my house and yelling. I almost popped the stitches in my mouth. My mouth literally started bleeding again where the stitches are and nathalie was making me chew on gauze.

That would have been really funny for you to witness

Branch needs to step up and attack their defense. I hope I'm wrong but I don't think D'lo will have a good game. He sometimes struggles with long defenders guarding him.

I know everyone is focusing on Okafor for all the right reasons. I also would zone the hell out of them to limit his touches in the post, but he's going to get 20-10. Let him have it. I think if we harass Cook enough, we'll be in a good spot.

I think we've found Obekpa's dealer.

I hope we do not start small. Having Pointer at the 5 with Harrison at the back of the zone is just asking to have our two best players get into foul trouble. Harrison has been picking up reaching fouls early in the game when he has been at the back of the zone. You need one of the two crappy bigs to at least absorb some fouls.

For years I have been hoping for more SJU talk on WFAN now I wish Joe & Evan would shut up. They know so little and make such broad statements about the program, facilities ect...
not positive talk, does not help our cause trying to make the program back into a perennial NCAA team. Hope BT & John can educate them a bit.

Yeah, but it's still the least ridiculous thing posted on this board in days. So I got that going for me.

How did SDSU get Okafer? NCAA allowing trades now? How can we get Towns? Let me nominate a WFAN style trade.
Amir, both Delarosa's, the entire stoner posse and Keady's old combover for Towns. We can thrown in a Lavin nickname to be named later.

Couldn't agree more. I heard them a little bit earlier this morning talking about St. John's and it was clear that they know nothing about the program, current and past.

@nypostsports: Steve Lavin's first thoughts on San Diego State were a little bit offhttp://t.co/ua8ujaWYIF #marchmadness

"Marillacian" Zach rip in 5,4, 3, ... :)

Without further ado...

This is where Zach loses all credibility. He lets his ego dictate his work--a beat writer's ego and opinions should be left out entirely. He says one thing about SDSU's style, Lav says the opposite, it's called out on Redmen.com, and Zach feels a need to respond to defend his position. Very professional. We shouldn't even be discussing Zach's name...he's not a columnist.

As for his claim, SDSU is not a plodding team. They are probably the most similar team in the entire country to us. They are long, athletic and not very skilled. They get after it on D which makes teams use more of the shot clock on their end. They aren't Princeton on offense, though.

They just can't shoot. 62% from the FT line? That is dreadful. They leave 8 points on the court every game right there. 32% from three and just 41% from the field...they are leaving points on the court there for sure as well. They are missing shots and they don't particularly rebound all that well even with the great D and awful offense. They averaged 8 more ppg last season because they had better shooting %s.

We will win this game. Polee is a great player for us to match up with. We don't get beat by athleticism and length. We get beat by strength and skill.

@Amir_Garrett: S/o to them johnnies for making the tournament proud of yall @DangeloHarrison @philgreene31 I told Lav I'm gettin a ring too lol

We could really use him. It's great to see that he is still close with his guy and Lavin. That says a lot from a transfer. What a warrior he was for us.

BT and Mink on FAN. Among the things they said:
Didn't like the name Red Storm, team has not performed like they did as the Redmen.
Lavin should stay at SJU, because this isn't the early '80's and they have lowered expectations. (Beningo said Lavin should be fired if they lose against SDSU).
Said we should win Friday, as SDSU does not shoot the 3 well, and that's where we get frequently hammered.
Obekpa a loss on defense and the boards, but he slows them down on offense.
Liked Providence, possible Final 4.
This is the best team that Jay Wright has had.
Were not high on the Hoyas. (Rest of the known universe has them as an upset special).

It makes it harder to grow a program when the respected voices on the airwaves show so little interest or knowledge of the program. I know NY is a pro town with a lot to talk about but still some serious and knowledgeable discussion on occasion might help. All we need is one or two top city kids a year to commit and being discussed in a positive way on a semi regular basis on WFAN would not hurt.
