NCAA - Game 1 - San Diego St. (Friday)

First, GREAT match up for us.
I'm thinking 2-3 zone packed in for this one with CO out and their lack of shooting/scoring.
The key will getting back on D to prevent their easy baskets and getting as many as of our own in transition and secondary transition.

They have to get Alibegovic involved offensively. He can't just be in there to fill minutes now...he offers more than that. Give him some touches down low. He has good hands and can pass well at the very least. The kid has a chance to really shine now and getting a week of first team reps and treatment gets a kid so much more prepared than a last second scratch.

The plus side is that any Polee intell will be completely useless without Dunlap around.

I love your enthusiasm for Amar but he is shooting 39 percent.

We will win.

San Diego State's leading scorer and rebounder is Winston Shepard. We were definitely involved in recruiting him out of Findlay Prep. I watched video of him posted on the recruiting threads here. He was a really talented and versatile player in High School. Everything in life comes full circle.

He and Obekpa have something in common, so good thing they didn't end up as teammates.

Among the 6 "experts" only Dennis Dodd has us beating SD State.

We are winning this game. Screw the "experts".

Does anyone remember which one of the CBS announcers yesterday gave us some love and said he liked us to win our game?

I agree. Some experts. One of them on CBS (I believe it was Gottlieb) said we'd get killed on the boards by SDSU, but they don't appear to be a great rebounding team. To your question, Clark Kellogg is the one who picked us I believe.

Yes, Clark Kellogg backed us. At the same time, you can't blame anyone for picking SDSU. We lost obekpa. That's not going to be easy to overcome. However, I too believe the guys can win this game.

Obviously could. We have superior guard play. Like our chances.

39% vs SD St would be good. They only allow 37% on the year

SJU 61
SDSU 53

It is hard to be excited knowing even if we win duke will destroy us without obekpa. It will be like the thrashing we got in Philly. Expect duke to get 100+ points.

Let's beat SDSU first then worry about the next game.

It's been sooo long since a win in this Tourny.

Amar will play well; our seniors will play exceptionally and we WILL advance. My gut.

Possession-by-possession boys, limit the turnovers and we'll be okay!

Gotta show a lot of fire and passion and not be flat like against the Friars.

One game--win and advance.

The fact the San Diego St. doesn't shoot well is good for us because if we can get some rebounds on the defensive end it will allow us to get our transition game going. We have gang rebound on the defensive end, everyone crashes the boards. The problem for us in this game will be rebounding on the offensive end. We can't have everyone crash the boards on the offensive end because it might lead to too many run outs by SDST if we can't get the rebound. we have to shoot 45% to win this game because there's a chance that we might be limited to just one shot per trip on the offensive end.

keep them out of the paint...the Nova game was a dunking clinic in the 2nd half. I doubt they have a low post presence like ochefu to punish us, so we need to use our speed on the perimeter to force some turnovers and disrupt their attempts to get easy buckets
