NCAA Breakdown & Matchups

Not NCAA T, but interesting tidbit reflecting college hoops potential practice perhaps. From So. Cal Twitter account;

Statement from USC head coach Andy Enfield: “Chimezie Metu has made a personal decision not to participate in the NIT as a precautionary measure to eliminate the risk of injury leading up to the NBA Draft.”
I see the practice has now spread itself to college basketball. It started a year or two ago in college football, where a handful players have sat out in bowl games (of course, non-playoff bowl games), so to not risk injury as they prepared for the NFL Draft.

Where's the competitiveness?
I understood it with McCaffrey and Fournette. Wasn't happy, but I understood. It spreading to basketball is pissing me off royally, though.

Or as Bill Walton is wont to say THE CONFERENCE OF CHAMPIONS!
PS though I do have Arizona winning it all.

Bill Walton is certifiable but, funny and entertaining . Always a good listen . And , he totally disdains dressing for TV . Like his Deadhead and tie dyed Tee shirts . If I were a bookie , I would take any action on Arizona winning it all . I don’t see it at all . A good Zone will befuddle then as it did Az State vs Syracuse and St Bona beating UCLA . West Coast B.B. usually is overrated and soft . Exception being Gonzaga . I have the Cats , Nova winning it all . Beating Virginia .

Would love to see them exit early ... as well as Duke, of course.

There is already plenty of irony to go around when it comes to the NCAA. UNC goes to two Championship games in the middle of the biggest academic scandal in history and the NCAA turns a blind eye and sings the Everything is Awesome song. AZ going to the Championship game would only be a little less ironic than seeing Louisville there.

Close and entertaining but a comment on coaching, specifically X’s and O’s which are such a topic here. So Dan Hurley, who is a good coach, no question, and is a flavor of the month to move up from Rhode Island, has a veteran team, the most successful 4 year group of guys in RI history. So basically what did this veteran team with a coach who learned under a legend, his dad, do down the stretch? Pretty much jacked bad 3’s. Now they won, so all is forgiven if you will, but my point? Coaching remains to me very overrated. Nobody cared about the coaching when players made plays down the stretch, and the coaches sucked when they didn’t. Coaches institute a system, an approach and then hopefully recruited winning players, players who can make plays with the money on the line.

Luv the ‘Dance’. Here’s to the Johnnies ‘dancing’ next March, long and hard!

So it looks like I'm staying in the Butler Bulldogs hotel in Detroit. I'll keep an eye out. Just saw the Razorbacks bus with police escort cruising by. Too bad the Detroit schedule wasn't a Thursday/Saturday venue or I'd go to the game tonight. But I'm going home tomorrow so I'll see if I can get tix for Staples next weekend.

It’s a fact the Jimmy and Joe’s are better than the x’s and o’s .. and , who decides who is a good Coach , bad Coach ? Us posters ? That ‘s a laugh and a half . That ‘s why I cringed when some folks denigrated Mullin because he didn’t come up from the ranks of Towel Boy to Video Coordinator to Assistant , etc . You think Hurley has more B.B. Smarts than Mullin? I don’t ! Either Hurley . I respect them but , don’t think they have anything more to offer than Chris . In fact , as Players they aren’t in the same conversation . But, I thought through out the Year the Mullin Snipers were just Lavin Loyalists or just , had something against him from Day 1 . They are entitled to that opinion . As for Oklahoma vs URI , Lon Krueger has a well respected Resume , way longer than Hurley but, his team didn’t have it at Crunch time . Charles Barkley strutting that OU is out as he was emphatic they didn’t belong .

Well-said Logen.
Coaching success hinges predominantly on the talent on the team.
It was also easier ‘back-in-the day’ for a coach to dominate his players, to infuse his will or ‘system’onto the team.
Those days have passed in this era of 1-and-done players, 2-years-gone guys, and the upsurge in disgruntled players exiting via the ‘transfer option’.
It’s a different ‘game’.

He's listed at 165 ... and that's probably with rocks in his pockets.
