I’m with you on that JohnnyFan. It’s very odd we seemed to have K’d on Femi when the local competition is said to be Iona and Hofstra.
What other bigs are on ‘Matt’s Radar? Doubt Trey Porter is even a ‘reach’ for us. I thought Femi our best shot. Unbelievable to me that Mullin ‘was not’ on campus for the visit. If he was, then shut me up.
Otherwise, hasn’t he read the Board and the papers how desperate we are for a Grad Big so we can make the dance next year?
Keita is not a 40-minute guy, so maybe he plans to showcase 4 guards and an outside shooting wing (Clark) in a frenzied shoot-out scenario game in-and-out?
That’ll work.
It seems pretty clear from everything I've heard and read that Mullin is not front and center recruiting. The whole point bringing him here was to wow the recruits and have an NBA HOFer in their living room showing them pictures with MJ and his gold medal. Instead he's relying on Matt (seems to be at least a solid recruiter but is only 1 man) and Greg who is younger than me and I graduated SJ with my Master's in 2014. Again, I think Matt and Greg are working hard but it doesn't seem like Mullin is holding up his end of the bargain. Doesn't he notice what his buddy Ewing is doing?
Whatever is going on, we need answers. Something is obviously not right and I'm not sure if it's recruits steering clear with negative recruiting, Mullin not being front and center recruiting, Mullin not hiring a real assistant, or the coaches just being incompetent. Maybe it's a mix of all the above.
Totally agree Mike. I thought Mullin would 'learn' coaching ABCs OJT, but be out there front and center in top recruits' living rooms--with Mitch--both showcasing their NBA HOF creds. What an idiot I am for falling for that.
We don't get a card to 1 NCAA dance without 1 more serviceable Big. I'd rather whiff on the sit-outs at this point--important as they are given Shamorie definitely leaving after next season and maybe Simon also--but a Grad Big is essential to any realistic hopes for an NCAA dance next year.
Otherwise, it falls totally on Keita, with 'some' (but very unpredictable) contribution from Roberts...and that, again, leaves us with zero 'depth' and likely disappointment.
