It is!

With a better coach he wouldn't have holes in his game and we would have danced on a bigger stage

Sorry but you left yourself open for it lol

Beast , you shine like a torch on a foggy night at Sea... But, this one ...” it’s Mullin’s fault that Ponds is staying,” is the Gem of Gems! Yesterday , was a HUGE Day for St. John’s Basketball !! Yet, not a lot of credit thrown to the Guy who unquestionably had the ear and support of Shamorie and the Ponds family all through this Process? You hit it square on the Club Face with that one sentence ! And , thanks too, to all the other guys stepping up . Guiness, AlBovino, Otis, Ohio Fan, SSG,NCJohnnie, ChiDays, WASJ , and more than a few guys who stood up too, that i just cant recall right now . It is good to see many who have been silent thru the Negatives step up yesteday . Thanks guys .. and, if i did not mention you specifically , you and i know where your support lies .

Sly, Here's what I believe makes Mullin, and St. Jean, and Matt special. I don't know Mitch, so his exclusion isn't intentional. I do not believe than any one of them would not encourage Shamorie to stay in the draft if they thought he was a first round cinch at this point, no matter what the impact to SJU bball. I believe that each possess integrity and transparency that looks out for the best interest of each kid. In doing so, they are the kind of guys who should lead the program as a foundational quality. Winning trumps nearly all, but winning the right way is the hallmark. Really hope that the year back pays big dividends for Ponds first, our program second.

Sly, virtually everyone who posts on this site bleeds Johnny red and wants the team (and the staff) to succeed. Everyone just comes at it from different perspectives. This week has to be a happy time for any Johnny fan. There is no downside to getting a super player like MH whether he gets the waiver or not. Excellent job by staff. Doesn't mean they're perfect, but they hit a home run here.

NC Johnnie, you are much too kind ... Not everyone supports this Coach and his Staff and they have been brutal in their commentary . Which is their Opinion . But, you are right , let’s enjoy Ponds coming back and all the new Faces plus Simon , Clark and Trimble next season . It’s looking pretty good so far .

Not to put a damper on your fine missive but a week ago in a back and forth with Fordham96 I said:

"WHY would I need a poll to question Chris Mullin's professional opinion that Shamorie Ponds, his player, is not going to be a first round NBA Draft pick??
Chris could have easily asked Golden State to give him a look. He did not. Mullin is not on board with Ponds leaving if he is not drafted. It has nothing to do with having to provide for his family.
As for you, when you say " I know I am not the one who wants to be able to provide for my family", you should be ashamed of yourself!;)
Other than being left off the combine lists and the fact that those who have watched his game closely don't think he is draft ready this year, his freedom to do as he pleases is the only thing you got right
."

If giving your star player sound advice should be credited to Mullin then good for Mully, but Mullin has been in the Bay area with his family through all this drama. His advice to Slick was given before he left. All the real credit goes to Shawn Ponds for navigating through all of this with his son.

Just my two cents about Mullin. I was too young to know about the mid 80s SJU teams. So unlike other fans that have a spot close to their hearts when it comes to Mullin the player, I can't say that I'm one of them. However I try to be a realist. I realized when they hired Mullin that there would be growing pains. This being his first endeavor into coaching. I knew the first year was a throw away year. That team was a patchwork job. So his first full season I think he did a decent job. This last season I think we could all agree that with Lovett sticking around, we easily would've won a few more games and had an NIT invite. Now going into what I consider year 3 (throwing away that first year), we look to be an NCAA caliber team. With Heron eligible to play, I see us at least a sweet 16 team. I really don't know what more people were expecting. I get the frustration with Chris allegedly being absent on the recruiting trail, however at the end of the day isn't a coach judged on his won/loss record? Honestly, maybe they play the transfer game because it's hard to get commitments from high school kids when the program has been dormant so long. Perhaps this blue print will lead to winning, which could lead to St. John's being a viable destination for high level high school recruits. Maybe we'll see more effort from Chris when we're at that level. Point is, give this staff the time they deserve. We're trending upward and that's really all any of us could ask for. Next year looks like it could be one hell of a fun season. However with all that being said, I'd trade out Mitch for Rice in a new York minute.

Do you have a picture of Mullins mailbox? Any pictures of him having coffee with his wife?

With Ponds we're getting to the ncaa even without Heron, but don't know if we'd make any noise, if Heron can play then I agree atleast the Sweet16. I think we'd have a huge regular season as well.
Next year could be the first season where top recruits look at SJU, and say yeah, maybe great things can happen there. Just hopeMullin takes advantage of a great season.

If Heron can play next year, he'll be the biggest recruit of the Mullin era.

Well at least the mailbox is red although it looks like it goes back to his collegiate playing days.
