would be glad to get Rice and have Ponds back but getting that big also would be the cherry on top of the sundae!!
Agree......staff change and Ponds back would be palatable. However, if Kieta goes down, it will take a really super assistant coach to save us.

.

Bottom line......not being able to land a big over the course of two years is absurd and definitely an indication that something is wrong. I would hope, with the open scholly, we are still working on this non-stop, every single day.
K surely agree getting all three would be a giddy dream as I said earlier.
But IF the Hoops Gods said to us: “you could have but two of these gifts, choose.” I’d take Ponds and Rice.
That’s me.
Let’s go Johnnies

Agree, I would choose the same. But, I am making a different point in regards to the big man. Mainly, any program worth it's weight in salt would not be in this situation. Something is amiss and operations need to change.

Puzzling and agree with you, JF.
I think it screams that the Staff needs an overhaul--which is why a new AC is critical.
Meanwhile, I guess we can have giddy dreams about running the table...and pray the hoop gods don't think we're being greedy.

K Gene, I'll be greedy with you!
Are we saying that getting Brownlee as as assistant is in the cards? How do we think that this is a monumental plus. Another inexperienced coach to add to our staff. Am I missing sonething?
Yeah, a brain. ;) :) Just kidding, couldn't resist. There's no way you could have thought there was an intended inference that JB would be brought in as an AC...or maybe you did in which case disregard the just kidding part of my comment. ;) :) Just kiding again, couldn't resist again. Hey it's late and I'm a little bored.

I enjoy rice pudding, Jasmine rice, paella, Thai fried rice, and all things sake. Now, who knows, maybe we'll enjoy seeing Mike Rice on the bench and recruiting for St. John's.
Let's go Johnnies.

At SJU going 0-3 can happen to, yeah I know I'm a negative person.

Agree...obviously the trifecta gives us the best shot to make the tourney but I'd choose the same 2. Keita doesn't have to be anything special...just rebound, get a few dunks/layups here and there, and eat space. If he can do that and our guards (hopefully with Ponds) can all click together with good shooting and passing, then we have a real chance to open some eyes next year. As Paultz said though, things rarely work out the way we so badly want them to, so who knows?

Spoiler alert - in 3 months we'll still be waiting for news on a coaching change and adding a big man, interpreting avatars and wondering why nothing ever actually gets done in this program.

Strongly sense you will see a staff change, but you can’t expect things to occur instantaneously. I would not expect any staffing announcement until July btw.
Re: the grad big, efforts made, but of course they can fail. I still sense roster change of some sort will occur. Enjoy your spoiler alert. :)
Instantaneously? LOL, this Rice thing has been in and out of Rumorville for like 2 years now. If it was going to happen, it would have happened by now.

And as far as a big, effort is nice and all but this is a results business. Need to figure out how to actually close at some point. I don't care how we do it anymore.

Rice, as noted previously, was on campus spending time with staff last year. For whatever reason he was not offered a position. He is still available, but more importantly it appears a staff change appears quite possible before the coming season. I will remain optimistic that occurs. To me Rice is a solid choice, but there are also other experienced guys out there. You feel staff change will not happen & I strongly differ.

I can't argue with your second point re: a big man.

I hear you. Just seems to me that if it's been determined that a staff change should occur, there needs to be more urgency. We are smack in the middle of a critical recruiting cycle, and every one of our targets are being chased by UConn, Gtown, Pitt and others, let alone the Blue Bloods in some cases. Time is of the essence. With regards to Rice, I'm very skeptical that could ever happen given staff's stubbornness and theory that if Matt and Slice couldn't co-exist, how is he going to co-exist with Mike Rice? Seems to me we need one of these 30-year D1 assistant types who Gtown, Xavier, Providence, Creighton, Butler, and every other program we should be trying to emulate seem to have.

We need a second recruiter badly. And if Matt doesn't get along with the next one, maybe the person who twice had an issue is the problem.

I don't think Matt will have a problem with this one if it comes true.

Thanks Paultz. You've kept me in 'hope mode' and away from that ledge!
We should know about the 1 most critical variable for next season--Ponds--next week, then perhaps the mystery Grad Big, then the Staff Change.
Here's hoping next season is full of excitement and great success.

Matt did not fire Slice, Chris did. To me, this means that Chris was not happy with the job that Slice was doing. I can't see any positive results that Slice brought to the table. On the recruiting trail, he struck out. Let's stop with the speculation and deal with the facts, Slice was an awful hire. Don't understand why some on here are still trying to defend him.

If this is directed at me, my post isn't denying anything you said, and it certainly isn't defending him.
