Hopefully Chris runs elite camp after having to cancel last year due to some regulatory glitch. Tartamella does a nice job;

Seems a fab & painless way for Chris to mingle with top HS talent--our targets included--showcase his credentials and evaluate / help these kids.
Didn't CM attend Louie's camps, back in the day?
Different times entirely, but those camps obviously established a lifelong bond between the two.

Matt can run the camp and Chris can FaceTime the players.

Not possible to register for any Mullin c amps at this time. Imo, doubtful there will be any. Disapointing.

Is this a red flag? Don't major basketball schools usually have stuff like this on the regular? If so, more evidence that he needs lots of help and guidance.

every sign is pointing to him checking out.

Need to find a coach who views this as the most important thing in his life besides his family.

Things could change if Mullin and Richmond saw this as a full time job rather than a "favor" to St. John's.
Mullin is likely the first coach in St. John's basketball history who views summer camps as a chore rather than an opportunity to bond with young talent.
As said many times, many people don't see this as a passion or long term commitment from Mullin or Richmond.
Mike asks if the lack of a summer camp is a red flag. The red flag was the conflict with his associate head coach and selling his house after that disastrous first season.
Matt and GSJ have been holding this program together. Richmond will always be between California and NYC and disappear in April. Mullin has a very large extended family in NY. If that one issue gets resolved he could see the job completely differently. Time will tell.

Kind of brings to mind the person who walks into the job knowing no one can tell them anything (maybe they are family of the boss or something) vs. the hungry younger guy fighting to move up the ladder. It does seem they see it as a favor to us rather than having standards they must meet. I'm sure we pushed hard to get him to come, but thus far he has not panned out at all. You need to know when to pull the plug or you risk the program becoming more and more irrelevant with each passing year. 1 more year to decide his fate IMO.

Not really, most schools DON'T have these camps. SJU having the camp showed it wanted to compete on a high level. So it is disappointing because these camps show that you want to be a big time program.

Red Flag? The biggest red flag is they are 38-60 (12-42) with 3 losing seasons, the failure the last 2 years to land a significant 4 year top 100 recruit (more specifically local recruit). This needs to change FAST...

You are way off base and out of bonds. This is exactly what i was referring to in responding to your threatening assertion that folks would be suspended.

Calling out hypocritical users who are now bashing Mullins hire of Slice is based in reality. The overwhelming sentiment on the Slice hire at the time on here was positive and enthusiastic.

Admit it, you didn't like me responding to your post by warning against thethreatening tone of it. You even deleted my first response because you did not like the content, not because it violated a rule.

The board rules say the purpose is to support the school, coaches, and players, but we routinely allow every coach since Carnesecca to be characterized as inept, lazy, stubborn, stupid, you name it. The Carnesecca statue thread bashes the school. Can we not be critical in this manner, or can we?

Calling out hypocritical behavior is a far cry from the often profane, defamatory, and even threatening rhetoric that was permitted for years here. I applauded the mods for regulating that sort of thing.

I don't know who you are, but recent posts do not remotely approach the type of thing we are trying to avoid here. You are likely offended by this response but if you think it compares to the ludicrous taunts to mods for years as he persisted in antisocial behavior, you are dead wrong.
I'm not going to take the time responding to your basically inaccurate comments, except for one. I didn't delete your previous post.

On a general note, if you don't like te moderation here, feel free to post on another site.
One thing I can say about OhioFan and RedmenNorth to their credit is that they send pm's to warn/advise fans when they push the envelope. That is much appreciated rather than behind the scenes stuff.
So, are you intimating Otis is deleting my posts?
We are still playing this game?
RedmenNorth in the library with the revolver?

The irony is that no matter how boring and repetitive his posts are, I will always have a soft spot for Mike because he was responsible for the single greatest thread in ST John's basketball forum history. The "Dave stole my $ and never gave me my medium t shirt" thread on JJ is the 85 Final Four team of threads.

The irony of course is that many give Mullin leeway because of how great a player he was here. And I as one of the many give Mike leeway because of one great thread when he spends an insane amount of typing complaining about the other person who I give leeway to. Pretty ironical, no?

Lol Yup, irony in spades. Gottta laugh & shrug & then hope.
Should just make a thread called COACH. This way when Mullin does leave people can just go on there to continuously trash Will Brown or whoever.
That thread would break the internet

Paultz and some others have more of a finger on the pulse of the team than the rest of us. So my question to Paultz and 72, is would it be best to cut ties with Chris after this next season, no matter the outcome? I like and support Chris, however I just don't think he has the fire in his belly to make this a long time gig. So with that said, and for program continuity, what are the chances that majority of the staff stay on, except for Chris and Mitch? I honestly would love for GSJ to become the next head coach. You can see the fire that burns in his belly. I think Greg as the HC, with Matt as his top assistant wouldn't be all that bad. Especially if they can bring in a couple of other experienced assistants.. 1 more recruiter and a big man coach. I kind of liked when Zendon was helping out. IDK.. Just bored and looking for opinions. Thanks

IMO, there's no way the Administration or most posters on this Board, including me, would call for CM to leave after next season IF he has an NCAA Tournament-qualifying season.
I think the hope--if not the gut--is that things break well professionally and personally for Chris , he and his family relocate back East, and he stays through a contract extension.
We shall see.

I'm totally fine with that. I feel next year we are easy 20 plus wins. I like having Chris as coach. I guess my only issue is what I take away from the board about him not recruiting and so forth. That's I guess why I posed my original question, about whether or not next year is successful does he walk away, but give the reigns to some of the current staff? Just get worried about some of the noise I hear on here about his personal issues and him not really wanting to do what other head coaches do.
