It will be a moot point when he gets the program over another hurdle next season and makes the NCAA.

I think it's success this upcoming season or bust.

It's become more of a business, schools are in an arms race and he's very well compensated.

On a postive note, over the past few days it does seem that our name is attached to several transfers and high school or prep school players. We'll have a better view of the future in the Fall.
I admire your loyalty to Mullin, but what evidence has he given you that makes you so optimistic in the face of mountains of evidence that just the opposite is true? Any unbiased and objective person in the know in college hoops knows the experiment has been a disaster thus far. He was mentioned among the top coaches on the hot seat. That shocked some fans here...my question is, why?

I agree it's do or die next year. And btw when did it become an accomplishment just to be "mentioned" with good recruits? We should be mentioned with them. That should be granted. But it's not nearly enough just to be in the running...tons of schools are. You have to actually win some of the battles eventually. I never expect to get everyone, but we're not winning any of the battles for real impact recruits. With low standards comes the acceptance of failure and I don't want that to happen to us. We should not be comfortable with this.
Mike, see my response to 72 on reasons for my confidence and respect for Mullin and staff. In addition, I try not to get caught up in every twist and turn during the off season. The sport is in a general mess these days. It's corrupt as hell and there's an arms race by well resourced universities to get to the top. I like our staff - even with the imperfections and high maintenance that seems to go on with one of them. I like hearing that they told Tariq that they would not promise him a certain amount of shots per game. They have made mistakes, but they also have been improving the team year to year. I'm optimistic that Ponds remains on the team and cautiously optimistic that they will land one more piece to replace the surprise loss.

I might be wrong. We'll see next season.

I agree with Beast in that I think Mullin will be here 'forever'. There's a 'subject to' or 'if' proviso to that and that is 'winning'.
He has to win next year and get us to the Dance.
This team's 'top' 5 guys, as constituted (assuming Shamorie returns)--Ponds, Simon, Clark, Dixon, Keita--is very good and might 'get us' there alone, except it lacks experienced depth.
And we all know how that goes, plus Keita cannot play 40 minutes. So, getting a Grad Big to share time with Keita is essential to any reasonable plan for success in 2018-19.
And, it seems the Staff understands that and hopefully will get us that missing piece.
Still unsure if Trimble is returning or leaving--but Williams should be capable of some minutes, and Roberts/Earlington will get 'some' spot time.
It's a thin and not ideal roster, but with that 1 Grad Big, it will probably be adequate to get us into the NCAAs--where, hopefully, we'll dance long and hard.
And being 'successful' next year will greatly impact our 2019 recruiting class and determine whether St. John's basketball will be relevant again in the BEC.

That's it in a nutshell.
All we can do now is wait for Matt to deliver and Mullin to close.

Agree '72. The dynamic and mighty 'M&M' duo of St. John's. Who wulda thunk we'd mimic the old & great Yankee teams of the late 50s/early 60s...!

To date this duo melts in your hand and not in your mouth. Still waiting to taste results.

Lol, knew I was setting myself up for that!
Let’s pray something good clicks soon.

Apparently Alford told Grace the AD wanted hime to make a change, but when Grace asked the AD, he denied that anything was said.

And he apparently didn't make much -- $190,000 in 2016-17. Seems like other schools are getting more bang for their buck.

Only 190,000?! Man, if Mullin doesn’t make that call right now.

Got to be more to the story. You just don't fire a low salaried top recruiter.

It’s well known that Steve Alford is on the hottest of hot seats right now and Grace ( possibly seeing the writing on the wall) was talking about a head coach position at Fresno. Add the rumors around Shareef O’Neal ( he may back out) and ta-da!!

Grace was in the military for 20 years. He has stated that because of that background he has too much integrity to cheat.

There's plenty of folks lacking integrity in the military so him saying it doesn't mean it' so.

Let's get Rice. Mitch back to special assistant. If we got him, he could take any anger out on me and not the team. I'd go to practices with him and I'd let Mike throw his balls at my face and call me names the whole time. Just get Rice!
