Mullin Stepping Down

A number of years ago when SJU was looking to hire a coach rumor had it that Calipari was interested but had problems with Looie over recruiting and was considered too slick for SJU and SJU passed and the program went into the toilet.
Hurley may be a fine candidate but you usually don't get a second chance to bring in someone like Pitino. It will, take guts on the part of the administration but it will certainly show they are deermined to elevate the program.

This makes so much sense. Pitino would be exactly what St. John’s needs: a brand name, legitimate coach in a market that understands him. Pitino’s ties here run deep. He is an New York City native and has at least one residence in the Greater NYC area. Pitino coached the New York Knicks in the late 1980s. He also knows the Big East, having coached in the league when he was at Providence and with the University of Louisville before it upgraded to the Atlantic Coast Conference.

St. John’s has great tradition, but its glory days occurred in the 1980s. It hasn’t been able to adjust to modern recruiting and no longer enjoys the advantages that built the program under Lou Carnesecca. Pitino might not be able to get the Red Storm to the Final Four, but he definitely could make St. John’s a perennial NCAA team. St. John’s hasn’t made consecutive NCAA trips since it went to three in a row (1998-2000) under Mike Jarvis.
I was renewing my season tickets regardless. Best value in sports in NY.
It’s really true. One season ticket costs probably as much as it would cost to buy tickets to 2 Knicks games on stubhub. Plus gets you away from the ole ball and chain for a few hours a week lol.

I've hated Duke all my life, only because of jealousy though. Bring me all the Dookies to make SJU successful!

Don't stop believing!!

Best thing I’ve ever read on this board. ;)

Tomorrow, in celebration, I buy two cases of Body Armor. Cheers!

Too much pressure at UCLA
Fans expect the coach to be the second coming of John Wooden
We'll never see a dynasty like that again in our lifetime
Too many good teams and too much parity
If true, Would love to know how the conversation(s) between Cragg and Reople played out.
Donors should rule since it's their money.
If they say Rick, it has to Rick.
That's my opinion anyway. I know everyone is saying it's Bobby, but just saying.

At the end of the day I don't care who's coaching. All I care about is seeing a big time winner, that's what we all want on this board.

Hurley was my first choice of the names being thrown around before Chris was hired. I'm not as high on him now as I was then. But if Pitino and Brey are not options, I would be fine with Hurley. Not sure about his game coaching acumen, but I feel confident that he'll work his ass off, put together a solid staff and will recruit the hell out of the tri-state area because of his connections. IMO that will be enough to keep us as a top 25 team year in and year out, even if he's not a stellar game coach.

If it is indeed Hurley, then I hope he's able to bring Alonzo Verge, Jr. with him. Kid balled out in JUCO this season.
