Agree.... I think it should be Pitino, as he would perfect after Repole's interview.

From what I am hearing not only is Mitch staying but he is adding Hardaway to staff as well. The school is so desperate that they told Mullin he does not even have to commute but can coach team via phone from California.
Speaking of, where is Mullin? Wasn't he supposed to come up this week to say a proper goodbye to the team?
Who cares? He is rightfully gone and the issue is that the Alfred E. Newman of CBB is again hiring without a clue.
If he does then I'd want him to ASAP before the new coach is hired. There were reports that he'd show up this (actually... last?) week.

At this point I doubt he'll show. Guess the speakerphone conversation was enough. Embarrassing and cowardly move.
If he does show up they should immediately give him his job back. Just saying.....

Decided I was out of here today. I hate what this board has become. Just a last post to say I’m very happy for my favorite college basketball team. They pulled off a miracle today given the circumstances of the past few days. Anderson probably has as many or more wins than all St. John’s coaches combined since Louie. Bye
The board was everything it needed to be. Bobby and Oliva turned this into the worst coaching search I've ever seen, and it wasn't even close.

And what's the point of leaving after we've seemingly pulled a rabbit out of a hat, and 95 percent of the board is happy?
Can't blame him for wanting off this thing and the unnecessary 'fire mullin', 'fire whoever' fiasco that this board perpetuates every 4 years.

This was completely unnecessary drama. We had a worthy coach, a legend, and a solid team coming in.

We are now in yet another pointless, tiresome rebuilding process. A process that had already painstakingly transpired after a series of depraved and embarrassing scandals. We had finally reached stability - something that seemed impossible only 10 years earlier.

This board has been a virus on sju basketball. I applaud anyone with the stones to call it out.

If only you had the stones the realize your beloved school legend who was a phenomenal player just wasn't anything close to a good coach. Maybe one day. In the meantime I applaud your crusade.

Dear Brian
Thank you for not starting a new thread but no need to revisit the Mullin situation. He is gone as coach of sJU. This thread was about welcoming our new Coach and not about what the admin may or may not have done correctly in the past. I hope you can get over your fear of the program going down next year without Mullin at the helm. You may in fact be pleasantly surprised. In the future I ask once again that you direct your comments about Mullin stepping down to the appropriate thread. Thank you.

Liz come to bed, it's almost 10 o'clock.
Soon as I finish up with Ashley Madison, honey.
We are not necessarily doing a major rebuild. I think Anderson has a better chance at retaining kids than Mullin would have. The only recruit Mullin had coming in (Cam) transferred once Matt left.
And here comes the new narrative...

What disgusting and disingenuous website this has become.

Hey, Brian. I love your loyalty to Mullin. I've met him a bunch of times, know Terrence a little bit, even sat in front of his parents at Alumni Hall when he played here. I agree with your position that even a shaky NCAA bid was enough for him to come back and prove he is all in after the passing of his brother.

I think one of the less vocal voices being extremely supportive of Chris is Paul Massell. You were off based in attacking him. I always defended Chris' character, but it appears he hit a wall this season in his growth as a coach, and it was he who constructed a staff, and has to own at least a part of the team's collapse down the stretch.

I had to sleep on the new coaching hire. I feel better about it today than yesterday, and with a little luck, maybe he could be our Joe Torre, that takes over a program, tell his bosses what he needs, and they let him operate a successful program. Amen.

Excited and hopeful about the future, but before we turn the page, does anyone know:

1) The real Slice story?

2) Was Coach Mullin forced out?

3) Why did no one else recruit besides Matt?

4) Was Matt leaving no matter what or did he know Coach Mullin was gone?

5) Why did Tariq leave? Was it not getting along with Ponds?

6) Is Mike Repole back in the fold? Has he helped the last four years?

7) Are Mustapha and LJ recommitted?

8) Are they still raising ticket prices for next year?

Thanks
Why does 1-5 matter? Just move forward
It matters because a pattern of behavior and unrealistic expectations is developing among fans and sportswriters that make it next to impossible for coaches to succeed here.

It matters because when these ssame fans smell blood in the water for Anderson in, say, a year, then writers will follow suit and we have "fire ________" all over again.

Mullin and Lavin both did somewhat well here, considering the near death experience of the previous THREE coaches. Mullin had as good a team returning (i.e. the team that everyone is positive about now, minus half if its pieces) as Anderson has inherited. I don't know why (for the life of me) that SJU fans can get excited about a theoretical team in 2020 when they had just been in agony over the same players a few weeks earlier. Just now we have coach who no one had ever heard of.

It matters because the fans and sportswriters seem to enjoy the ritual of "fire whoever" more so than wins.

By forcing Mullin out, the program has lost it's soul. The last link with the glorious past has been severed in a callous and undignified way. There is little to root for anymore.

If you never heard of Mike Anderson you are not a college basketball fan.
