Mullin Stepping Down

I am hearing that the school is in talks with Mullin to come back. Basically begging him.
From what I am hearing not only is Mitch staying but he is adding Hardaway to staff as well. The school is so desperate that they told Mullin he does not even have to commute but can coach team via phone from California.

Speaking of, where is Mullin? Wasn't he supposed to come up this week to say a proper goodbye to the team?

Who cares? He is rightfully gone and the issue is that the Alfred E. Newman of CBB is again hiring without a clue.

Say goodbye to who? They have all left.

If he does then I'd want him to ASAP before the new coach is hired. There were reports that he'd show up this (actually... last?) week.

At this point I doubt he'll show. Guess the speakerphone conversation was enough. Embarrassing and cowardly move.

Is it though? We're still paying him over $4 million and Slice however much over the next couple years. Would be really nice to have that money (or at least some of it) go towards our next coach instead.

Just saying. I'm not sure if the school has agreed yet to pay in full, but they definitely shouldn't. The guy couldn't even bother showing up to say goodbye.

IMO, let it lay. He coached the only way he knew, like an administrator; by delegating. It did not work. He is gone. Anyone’s opinion is anyone’s opinion and it just doesn’t matter anymore what he does or doesn’t do. Many posters were afraid of this when he was hired and it turns out they were right.

Lots of pages to read through so i apologize if this is redundant.

Heard from an alum who is friendly with some basketball alums. He was trying to tell me that one of the reasons Mullin “resigned” was because he would not make coaching changes, such as making a move to replace Richmond. He was speaking as if this was fact. Anyone heard the same?

You wouldn't be the first guy on here proclaiming Mullin's whereabouts when he was actually on campus. It really doesn't matter, doesn't affect anything, but I get the feeling you feel some sort of satisfaction if he actually didn't show yet or at all because you think it would somehow validate your negative opinion of the man.

Let it go. I actually don't gaf what Mullin is doing at this point. He is our former coach, it didn't work out, and we are moving forward, not backwards.

Do you mean "not" make moves?

Yes sorry about that

Putting Chris in rear view mirror works for me considering the present challenge we face.

Amen!

Too bad putting coaches in the mirror doesn't work that way. Or that easily.
Let's not be the posting police telling people what they can and can't talk about. If 15 years from now we're still talking Mullin then you have valid point. It's not even 15 days

I personally think Cluess deserves an interview for the vacancy, BUT, if that doesn't materialize ..............................

JUST THINK ABOUT THIS ONE......If you want someone with a proven record as a coach & recruiter in metro NY/NJ & has kept involved in basketball through commentary during NCAA College basketball season, then reach out to Bobby Gonzalez !! He always had his teams play a smart, unselfish, tough defensive TEAM style of basketball. Equally important, he recruited well & had good relationships with local H.S. & AAU coaches One has to think that his time out of coaching has given him a chance to reflect on mistakes he may have made & how he would improve if given a chance. I have no idea if he's be interested, but it's worth a phone call

The only HR hire would be Pitino after this PR nightmare. Who ever takes job now going be viewed as charity. That being said the guy I would offer now would be Tim O’Toole. He has been a great assistant had some success at Fairfield which similar in disfunction as we are. Has a relationship with our AD. He did St.John’s radio knows the past administration. He knows how to recruit is liked by the locals.
