Mullin Stepping Down
Tim Cluess will be the next coach. Just a hunch.
I'm never hiring you to represent me.:) ;)

Just listened to Rothstein on the FAN. He said that Hurley is top choice but big stumbling block could be having to recruit against his brother up the road at UCONN. Also said Hurley is very well liked at ASU and has done a lot for that program.

#2 is Tim Cluess. Rothstein went on to sing the praises of Cluess and what he’s done at Iona and how he’s performed so much better than other MAAC coaches who’ve gone on to bigger conferences. Rothstein also said Pitino was probably not realistic.

Take this for what it’s worth.
You don’t fire Mullin to hire a guy like Cluess.
Totally agree (finally)! I would be rather upset if we moved away from Mullin only to hire Cluess. Cluess would be way down my list of choices.
Sure sounds like Rothstein's source was some one from Mullin's camp probably a final middle finger...
I’ll readily admit that I’m not in the PR world, but my thought was the info being leaked right before the NC game was a move by school to eliminate backlash. Not make them look bad.

is it a fact that Mullin is in San Francisco? I mean if he has 'quit' kinda crappy that he wouldn't be at the school to say goodbyes to the team and staff.....

A real cluster f&ck going on in Jamaica Queens.

Chris is out but this is no easy buyout. He wants every penny….

That would imply that he was outright fired, not "stepping down."

I don’t like the way this is ending with Mullin just like I didn’t like the way Ponds career ended either. That said there are a lot of things that have bothered me that I have kept to myself which was a lesson learned from being overly critical of Lavin at the end(no I never made statements about his personal life) and the great respect I have for Mullin as a player. I would like if as many posters as possible move on from the past and focus on the future. We will have a new coach and hopefully things will go well. I mean reasonably well.

The program has flat-lined and in desperate need of someone who can not only coach but, equally important, excite recruits, current players & fans. Cluess isn't that guy.

Thanks for the landscape but no definitive choice.
Moose, who do you want? You have been active with the coaching discussion these past weeks.
From the names we've heard (Hurley, Cluess, Pitino) I want Hurley. I said I was all for making a change and would fully be behind any candidate. They all have their warts. We're not in a position to be having our pick of the litter with the coach that shines the brightest. I would fully support Cluess but similar I think fans would grow tired of some points quickly and Pitino sure great idea but not with NCAA violations. I could care less who he sleeps with in what restaurant.
Agree with Moose here. We won’t hire Pitino. It just won’t happen. I think Hurley makes the most sense and will do a good job. I’m not understanding what about him being quoted about learning from his brother has anything to do with anything. It’s his brother who also coaches a D1 program, a brother and a peer. Should he be embarrassed for that? I don’t get it. Hurley is young, a local guy and like I said, growing into it, but he has a high ceiling.

Hurley has only been a coach a few years and has a solid record With 4 seasons of 19+ wins and always in a position to compete. I only think he will get better, and I don’t think SJU fans will regret hiring a guy with a worth ethic and pedigree like his. I think it’s a good fit and can only help that he has an AD that he can work well with. The best programs have coaches that work well with their AD and have a clear path laid for them. What SJU was doing before hiring Cragg was preposterous and I think we are headed right direction.
That's because gimp is a wimp, Auburn had the balls to take a chance on pearl, and he rewarded auburn.

Ask rick if he plans on cheating, when he says no way, tell him straight up that he better not or he'll severely regret it.

Fire gimp, hate when people are afraid to take a chance. That's what lifes about.

Give it to him ... provided he's required to reimburse the university for the expenses it incurred for his firing of Slice.
Hurley was good but not in top 25 college point guards that I have seen play.
And Mullin was way better and as everyone has pointed out that means nothing.
Mullin wasn't a point guard.

All semantics but that is how Chris wants it viewed...

“— Vitamin Water founder Mike Repole will be a “financial resource,” sources said, in the next step in the process, a significant development considering how much money it would take to land Hurley, who made $2.4 million last year, according to USA Today.”

Great to know that Mullin may keep us from getting Hurley (re: buyout demands). Why not stretch a miserable 4 years out to a full decade?

Really, I want him to remain on good terms with Johnnies fans, but he is making things incredibly difficult. ALL of this is on him. 100%.
