He would show his displeasure we faces and gestures. Duke put together a low light video of BH to show him what a fool he was making of himself. Message received.

Perhaps a similar video is needed for his coaching antics.
Bobby Hurley was one of the best point guards to ever play college basketball. He was a winner, smart, gritty, tough nosed, and an extreme competitor. If I get all of that with some antics I would take it every day of the week. Booby Knight was known to be a little bit of a nut on the sideline but was a hell of a coach. and I don;t think BH is anywhere as crazy as Knight.
Hurley was good but not in top 25 college point guards that I have seen play.
And Mullin was way better and as everyone has pointed out that means nothing.
Man you just hate Hurley if you don't consider him one of the top 25 college PGs.

This is going to be fun to watch
Played with Grant Hill and Laettner. Very good college point guard. People are going way overboard on his playing career. I will argue Greg Anthony was better. One bad officiating game (classic Duke officiated game) away from beating them twice and won by 97 or something in Championship game.

.... anywhere as good as a coach.

Great quote I read in Knight's book, essentially that it was his job to prepare the team to play, and if they were unprepared it was squarely on his shoulders. Probably the harshest thing I will say about this year's squad is that too often they didn't appear prepared in game situations.
We've now released the last two coaches a few days after the season ended where our team got a rare NCAA bid both NCAA losses souring fans and leadership..
Norm was released after getting an NIT bid (his best showing) also. Going out right away in the NIT didn't help him.
Jarvis was released early in the season after his previous team won the NIT. His arrogance played into his firing as well as the team's slow start.
Fraschilla was fired after getting an NCAA bid.

Once again, clearing the deck, but the pattern is undeniably there in terms of an expectation that may not be realistic for this program.
Why should our expectations be any different then Villanova, Xavier, Gonzaga? Small Catholic Universities w/o football; we were better than all these schools in the past., there is no reason we cannot be again. With the right AD and coach. We seemingly have the right AD; now lets hope he can complete the next step.

This can't be good. Hopefully we hire a new coach soon who can re-recruit some of our current players, and former commits. I would hate to lose LJ and Simon specifically for next season.
I think he's shit stirring now. He hasn't got his corn shipment and he's using Trimble and maybe other lower level defections that were likely happening anyway to create some chatter and clicks.

For whatever reason, it apparently is true players were in dark last evening and via Twitter learned what we learned. I am sure someone at SJ did a little damage control then.

Well being that the leak came out an hour before the game where it would get quickly overshadowed I'm willing to bet it wasn't coming from Cragg. So a parting shot?

Maybe there is a valid reason, but why does it seem a pattern that SJU is slow to market on these critical decisions. In what appears to be a thin year for coaching movement, a few quality candidates that it would have been nice to at least evaluate and include in the mix (for a number of reasons) have already moved.

Unless you have a coach lined up already (and maybe we do this time) timing really matters with these decisions.

What generally happens when a coach steps down? Does he tell the players first, or somebody else? What happened with Lavin?
Seems like Hurley teams are more offensive minded and Pitino teams are 95% defense. Which one is better? In football I think offense rules in today's NFL. For college hoops I think you need more balance. Can anyone hint that this is done with Hurley, or is Pitino trying to make inroads?

By the way if it's Hurley, do you have any doubt he's a big upgrade over Mullin? Lots of teams have that tendency to shoot...wouldn't say that's an indictment on Hurley yet. He still uses bigs at least unlike Mullin did. Hurley is still learning as a head coach and has only been in major hoops for a handful of years. ASU was a good program overall under him and he rebuilt it in 2 yrs.
Defense, look at last night

Maybe. I am starting to believe that we should go the young aggressive route, theoretically with some experience. If that someone exists. Before I get accused of ageism I'll just say I myself am in the over 50ish club and I am finding it hard to believe that I could see myself trolling in the muck of college hoops recruiting. I do think a younger mindset is needed. This is going to take an enormous change internally (inside SJU) and how we recruit.

Hmmm...not sure if this is a good move for Mick.

Can't wait to read the post, "(fill in the blank) to St. John's!"

There always seems to be a lot of that, whenever it is announced that a coach will not be back.

If we bring in the right guy, then I'm sure some of these guys (whoever they are) can be retained, which is basically what you just said, 13.

Bottom line, the new coach will have to re-recruit the old guys, but that happens at almost any school.
Cronin to UCla
. wow! Mick has a outstanding Winning Record at Cincinnati .. UCLA job is a tough one and gobbles up Coaches , if you don’t challenge for the NCAA Final 4 every year . Still , Cronin isn’t exactly the Hollywood type but , maybe that doesn’t matter .

Let’s not panic. A good AD would have a replacement ready to go in short order. There’s no way Cragg would have had these discussions with Mullin without first talking to candidates.

See the Alabama Kira Lewis situation. Lewis asked for his release and then came back on board when Alabama hired Oates and the two talked.

I think Cragg will hold a meeting and tell all the players he will grant their release after the new coach is hired and the players speak with the new coach.
Sure sounds like Rothstein's source was some one from Mullin's camp probably a final middle finger...
And this was always my fear about hiring our best player. Hate to see him leave like this, but most of us agree that it is necessary.
