Hopefully, it's the guy who should probably be the first name anyway, Tim Cluess.

Chris Collins when his contract is up in 2025.

"You want to hoist banners in the Garden? Pitino will get you banners, guaranteed. Sure, you might need to take them down at some point. If that’s the case, you just smile because it happened rather than cry because it’s over."

This is hysterical...yet I would still take him in a hearbeat. What does that say about this program?!

There shouldn't be anyone who doesn't like Cluess. He is a Queens guy like many of us and has done a great job at Iona but he is also Mike Francesa's choice.....

If I were to bet think he is the next coach.

This thread was something else to wake up to this morning.

All the best to CM and his family. I am sure losing his brother made CM re-think his family situation and life's priorities. Wish them well in the future.

I think we hired a good AD, and now I think he will hire a good next coach.
For what it's worth, Pitino wants the SJU job
what makes you say that
For what it's worth, Pitino wants the SJU job
Then he should take the job for the nominal salary of $1. It will show he is contrite, and exemplify the Vincentian mission, of helping the weary and downtrodden. And this basketball program is definitely both of those things.

I'll ask this question for anyone in the know. Did Mullin even enjoy coaching? He never appeared to be enjoying himself. Never really seemed interested in most of the nuances of it and thus delegated tasks. He obviously doesn't need the money I always thought he'd step down after this season which ended up happening.

Would Pitino turn down any job from a power conference at this point?
Boomer and Gio were just saying that ST John's does not have the $ to hire a "name" coach including Bobby Hurley.
They're idiots who know nothing about the program. Take what they say with a grain of salt, especially Boomer.

I think he thought between Slice and Matt and the fact that he was Chris Mullin he would get good enough players that this would be a lot easier than it turned out to be.

Strippers and cash

Pitino may be old but he has something to prove. I do not want him that much but I think he would make us win

There is risk in almost any hire. I hope this time around SJU takes less of an high upside/downside approach.

Of the last 3 hires, none had been D1 HCs in the prior 7 years, and two had never been D1 HCs. It's a little unusual to do that once let alone 3 times in a row.

No need to overcomplicate it. Hire someone whose core professional competency is coaching D1 college basketball, with a track record of success generally and whose profile suggests some upside built in associated with the SJU job specifically.

It's no disrespect to Mullin. I think a risk of hiring any great former athlete as a coach is that it's a grind, particularly at the college level. It's a 250+ days a year on the road, sleep in the office, spend down time on your phone recruiting kind of job.

Would like to see SJU hire someone who needs to succeed at SJU because coaching is their career and what will largely define their professional success. That tends to be a motivating factor.
