There he is!

I,will be surprised if The Honorable Mike Cragg doesn’t have the vacancy filled by close of business Friday.

If the new hire works hard then they will be an upgrade. Let’s hope.

Cragg gets ducks in a row, is stealthy and acts quickly. I suspect getting a money guy or two in this equation was proactive, not reactive.

Zero % chance you make a move like this without the backing of $$$ people

At this point I would be shocked if it is not Bobby Hurley and even more shocked if Tim Cluess is even considered .

Bobby Hurley
Rashan Burno
Andy Borman
Mike Rice
Obvious fantasy scenario by me but everyone ok with that staff? :)

The first 3 I agree seems like a foregone conclusion.

Irony?

1. Are we sure Hurly will take the job,he has a good team lined up for next yr I hear
2 what is going to happen with our good recruit Nate does he now want out of his LOI and what happens with our current players, new coach means a lot of changes and will take time to bring stability to the program
Wish Mullin the best it seemed like his mind was still in California it’s hard to coach if family is not here Hope we make the right choice this time

I'm copy n pasting a snipet from the other board, as an ASU fan put up a synopsis of Hurley:

"Coaching wise, he is not the greatest. I love Hurley and what he has done for the program. Would be devastated to lose him at this point. However, he is not a good X's and O's coach. I have always believed that he can develop this area, however. ASU plays up and down to their competition. If you are looking for a defensive minded team, you'll be disappointed. The ASU team this year was highly athletic, yet showed no defensive cohesiveness 75% of the time. Opponents were getting open 3's at will, which is why ASU had terrible loses to teams like Wazzu.

Offense is always moving, but rarely does the ball go inside. He give his guards all the freedom in the world. This can either be great, or spell disaster. If you watched the ASU-Buffalo game you would see what I mean. No ball movement, just guards dribble handoff outside the 3pt line looking for their own shot most of the time."

And history repeats in itself. In four years I'll be arguing not to fire Hurley. Que sera, I look forward to my arguments that Hurley should be given more time.

WASU is right. In 2020 people will want Hurley canned.
All fair but not many options to be honest. It was a pretty soft year in terms of coaches. If you read the above and pulled out certain words I'd say I was reading about Cluess too who seems to the the most logical 'other' choice among fans.

That is exactly what will happen!! That is my fear when I heard Hurley name!! The good news is people in play have a love of horses! And the situation is more fluid than is being leaked to the Hurley fans! Ha

Is it possible our next coach will spend more time at Belmont than Jarvis ?

Seeing Rice name again, which amused me after the saga last year

If he's hanging with a few donors all the more power to him!

Seems like Hurley teams are more offensive minded and Pitino teams are 95% defense. Which one is better? In football I think offense rules in today's NFL. For college hoops I think you need more balance. Can anyone hint that this is done with Hurley, or is Pitino trying to make inroads?

By the way if it's Hurley, do you have any doubt he's a big upgrade over Mullin? Lots of teams have that tendency to shoot...wouldn't say that's an indictment on Hurley yet. He still uses bigs at least unlike Mullin did. Hurley is still learning as a head coach and has only been in major hoops for a handful of years. ASU was a good program overall under him and he rebuilt it in 2 yrs.

I’ll be happy with a hardworking Hurley. Let’s hope he comes and opens that Canadian pipeline.
And won't come from me but the faces and the technicals will annoy people on here really quickly if not successful right away. Take that prediction top the bank.
I don't care about a coach taking a well timed technical foul. A tech like Hurley took up 17 points to you looked inopportune. To me it's perfectly fine since we're coming from a coach who would take a tech down 7, 8 or 9 points that puts a game further out of reach.

Should be noted ASU had 6 total technical fouls. 3 by one player. I think we came close to 6 in one game this year at CA. So the players aren't exactly emulating the coach.
Looked to me like he looked at Duke a whiny little shit. There was no plan on that tech. He didn't like the call so he complained. I hope he gets the job. Win / win for me. If I am wrong and he can succeed here great I am a ST John's fan. If he falls on his face like I expect to happen the board should be highly entertaining....

Real question. Can somebody explain why we should be thrilled about Bobby Hurley? He has not done anything except get to the round of 64. The ASU team we played looked terrible, we were just worse, and he has a below .500 conference record there.

What’s exciting about him?
