Cragg says he wants SJU to be elite, wants NCs, To be the best you gotta be willing to take chances.
Can't be afraid what others think. RP knows eyes would be on him, you think if he get a second chance, that he'll risk getting caught again? Who gives you a better chance at getting that NC, Bobby or Rick.
You want to be big time then roll the dice and you whatever you gotta do to be big time.

I'm just at that point where you take risks and hope for the best.

I’ll be happy with a hardworking Hurley. Let’s hope he comes and opens that Canadian pipeline.
And won't come from me but the faces and the technicals will annoy people on here really quickly if not successful right away. Take that prediction top the bank.
Yeah, that's something we aren't used to. When you win this stuff becomes quite a bit more tolerable.
Yeah not walking right in and winning anything so lets see how long that honeymoon lasts.
More than happy to let Hurley get time to rebuild. IMO we will probably see lots of progress on the way...one thing is for sure...we will start getting impact HS recruits again consistently. Going back to Nike...may have 3 Duke guys between Cragg, Borman, and Hurley. Much harder to fall short constantly with competent guys who work their tails off. We may not succeed with Hurley, but at this point it's our best option. Young, hungry, competent, recruits, legacy of his father, huge name, etc.
MEH. Wasn't impressed when name came up when people on here were trying to fire Lavin. Certainly nothing he did at ASU changed my mind. We were in first 4 already.

A few things that I’m looking forward to. 1) a competent offensive scheme that utilizes actual plays, not run and gun streetball 2) Defensive effort all 94 feet. 3) Fundamental defensive rebounding. 4) A balanced roster with bigs, in addition to wings and PG’s.5) An end to the relentless transfer pipeline. Transfers out should be the exception, not the rule!

Hopefully I’m not asking for too much!

I think he’s been slightly underwhelming at ASU but the team he would have next year is Elite Eight caliber. He’s got more guard talent than we have here in a decade. His guys defend and board too.

He’s only getting better too.

I expect Coach Hurley would be a hard worker at StJohn’s which by itself would be a big improvement.
Hurley was my first choice of the names being thrown around before Chris was hired. I'm not as high on him now as I was then. But if Pitino and Brey are not options, I would be fine with Hurley. Not sure about his game coaching acumen, but I feel confident that he'll work his ass off, put together a solid staff and will recruit the hell out of the tri-state area because of his connections. IMO that will be enough to keep us as a top 25 team year in and year out, even if he's not a stellar game coach.
Maybe he can learn from Danny?!!?
Lol Monte. Bubbling with excitement mixed with regret for how it went down with Chris. I’ll always revere the guy as our greatest Johnny.
But onward and upward.
I agree about Bobby.
He may be a bit nutty on the sidelines (so is Danny, likely a DNA thing!) , but he has built up 2 programs and is a workaholic and a solid recruiter!
Lookin’ good.

ASU fans are worried and say if he came back they'd have a great team next year. Remember, he got them to back to back tourneys and back to back rankings of as high as 3rd and 17th in consecutive seasons. It's a good sign that they want him back. Wouldn't it be refreshing to be nervous about our coach maybe being poached instead of begging our coaches to leave for a change? It would mean there's real promise. Hurley is still young in his career and had what 4 years at ASU? 5 at most? I think the best is still yet to come for him. Dort is a stud and if he came back ASU would no doubt be in the top 25 if not top 15 next year if Hurley stayed. 3 straight top 25 recruiting classes one as high as 11th nationally. Stability. Continuity. That's what I hope he brings us. I will sleep much better knowing our new staff is busy at work and that feels good.

Think about this: we just may be getting Hurley right before he peaks and gets out of our reach. With 3 more years at ASU I bet huge programs would be poaching him after lots of success.
Welp the person I know who has connections proved to be right on this. Hurley coming soon.
SNY reported Hurley's salary at AZ State may be too much for SJU to handle. We shall see. If we do hire him I really have to question his sideline behavior which appears to be similar to Mullins.

Hurley
Cluess
Dawkins
Amaker
Scheyer
James
Pitino
Hell no to Cluess, Amaker and Scheyer. Just a "no" to Dawkins. Who is James? Does LeBron wanna coach us next season? :)
Agreed I think he means Nate James, K assistant and former Duke player.

Bobby would be an upgrade but not sure how much long term if he has the skills to match Jay. He'll work though.

Pitino would win with 5 midgets and a cheerleader.
The man can flat-out coach for sure. I still prefer Hurley for his youth, work ethic, and Jersey roots, but let’s remember about the Catholic Church and something called ‘redemption’.
Doubt we can outbid Tennessee, so likely a moot ‘choice’.
Never going to happen but if somehow got Pitino I would not only renounce Mullin, Berry, Jackson and David Russell but will burn my throwback Mullin jersey in support of the hire.
Lol we are SJU, but I hear you man!

On the sports report on the 11 o'clock ABC news show when the sports guy said Mullin was stepping down at St. John's there was at least one groan in the background.

It's not too much if that's the direction they go. Have to spend money to make money, although the initial money wouldn't even be ours.

Probably a Xavier fan.

Prepare for what? For him to stay at Iona?
ASU fans are worried and say if he came back they'd have a great team next year.
The board I read wasn’t worried one bit they would lose him. They seek to think he would only leave for Duke.

Not just in terms of possible grad transfers but this weekend is a live recruiting weekend where college staff can be present where AAU teams are playing. The 2019 ADidas Gauntlet Circuit starts this weekend around the country ( US). I only know about the Adidas Gauntlet since my son will be playing in same but I would imagine it would also apply for the other sneaker companies. It would be nice to see staff members in Boston this weekend recruiting and evaluating future talent. If there are any I will be thrilled to share the information.
However it may be too much to ask if the coaching situation has not been settled. Here’s to hoping it gets settled sooner than later.

This is just so naïve and dumb. Delusional wishful thinking.

I am not so sure that Hurley will come, but at least he's feasible and realistic. Just not sure he would view St John's as an upgrade. I also think that Cluess is a real possibility and he's won everywhere he's been. Not sure why the hating on here for him. Hoping for younger and better but he is a realistic name.

There are so many Coach K line guys that it will likely be one of them, even if not Hurley.

I don't care about a coach taking a well timed technical foul. A tech like Hurley took up 17 points to you looked inopportune. To me it's perfectly fine since we're coming from a coach who would take a tech down 7, 8 or 9 points that puts a game further out of reach.

Should be noted ASU had 6 total technical fouls. 3 by one player. I think we came close to 6 in one game this year at CA. So the players aren't exactly emulating the coach.

Zach's list of possible candidates

I know you wrote this in the early AM, Zach, but could you spell Mark's name correctly?
