More Jordan Problems?

The way I see it, it's essentially the same as if he had declared and left to begin with. And that's something most of us expected anyway. And posters also expected us to take our lumps anyway, so this is pretty much the same boat we expected to be in, save for a six-week Jordan tease.

I hope he can make something of himself basketball-wise, but glad the the roller coaster is finally over. His hangers-on need to get his ass into juco, and then to Temple or LaSalle. If they are looking to get rich off him, maybe they should actually try to protect their investment and give him some good advice. Dividing a D-League salary seven ways isn't going to cut it.

Excited about LoVett and Mussini, and I don't think there's any way in hell we finish last unless neither of those guys are here next season and we need to play Ellison 40 mpg at the point.
How can he go juco when he has already played two years of D1 ball?

You can transfer to a juco in an attempt to fix your grades -- it happens all the time. Then he can try to apply to a school in Philadelphia. That's what someone with a plan would do. Not sure if Rysheed has ever had a plan for anything, though.

Huh? If he wanted to stay in school why wouldn't he just work his ass off at sju and try to get eligible for the spring. Or he could just transfer directly to temple or lasalle and work on his grades while he sits out a year.

Juco makes no sense for the kid.

Juco makes perfect sense if his grade are so abysmal that he's not allowed to stay. And if they are too abysmal to stay here, why would another school other than a juco accept him?

So if I have it straight the last three recruiting classes netted Rysheed for the better part of two seasons , Amar A and two academically ineligible players , and possibly Brandon Sampson and Sammy B Thompkins.
Absolutely pathetic IMHO. Lavin was left a ton and in turn left Mullin with a worse roster than than the fat bald piece of crap whose name I cannot repeat left Norm.
Lavin should be ashamed for having asked the admin for an extension let alone a raise. This was something he had to have been aware of and if he wasn't it is more gross negligence on the part of the former staff.
Every fan of the program knew Rysheed needed more attention in more than one way than the majority of the team , why the highest rated to play in the program in over ten years didn't get it is shameful , embarrassing , pathetic , gross mismanagement and whatever adjectives others may wish to add.

Aubie hit the nail on the head with his above post regarding Mr. Lavin and his hard(ly) working staff. My guess is that "Lav" will never be hired to coach again at a big conference school.

Well reports have indicated that he has t been asked to leave. Not sure why a school like lasalle wouldn't take a flyer on him. Don't think bad grades preclude a university from accepting a transfer.

Not sure if this is fair. Academic casualties happen everywhere and when you take away a DOBO and full staff to chase these kids around campus, you're only asking for trouble. Mullin and Matt A were holding down the fort for a month alone (following a complete vacancy and tournament run) and couldn't possibly keep track of everything. Take away all but two guys from Syracuse and they'd have a huge fallout academically.

Let's just wait until this is final before we beat up the kid yet again. He has nine lives. The normal pattern is: leak that Jordan is done, huge overreacting by fans, Jordan stays, Jordan comes back better than he left. One more round of that would be nice. If not, we'll probably take a step back unless Lovett and Mussini and/or Carter can really step up.

IMO Mullin and staff must avoid losing a recruit they feel can contribute next year because of the Jordan soap opera . If one of the recruits would commit if Jordan was gone then SJU should cut ties with him.
Can anybody expect him to attend school from now to mid Dec. and pass courses?
If somehow he did he is still available till March and the soap opera starts again. Let the two backcourt possibles know he is gone and lock one of them up or look elsewhere for the little time left.
Don't waste time with a player who knew all season he had no chance of being drafted and still must have failed a boat load of coursesu

When Jordan is on, he's someone special but the off the court roller coaster soap opera is too much for one's heart. He had Kentucky aspirations (one and then two and done goals) and left the academics on the side burner and now he's caught in limbo. Although, I really like Jordan and no one can deny his ability on the court (he's easily had some of the best individual highlights of the last decade) but his handlers were not truly in touch with where he ranked at the next level so he apparently let his foot off the gas pedal on academics. If he doesn't end up qualifying, I will be slightly miffed and upset, but after all the drama over the years, a new coach, new way, and new players that fit the mold, I'll be more than okay.

Some kids just are not meant to go to college. He can try jumping to the NBA, or Europe or the D league. I feel bad for him, he appears to have blown the opportunity of a lifetime.

Kind of speechless but at the same time not really. It was clear he wasn't going to class for a while this semester. He gambled and lost.

And sorry but it's crazy to pretend he isn't our best player and this won't be a major loss. I'm not saying he's the only way we can get to the tournament, but come on. The stats don't lie. Sure he misses a few games throughout the year but he'd still be our top player preseason this year.

It sucks, plain and simple. It sucks for everyone involved, including Jordan himself. I root harder for players who come from tough backgrounds. I doubt he'll be back but I hope he can eventually make the league.

It's pretty fair. Lavin signed one recruit of consequence in two years, which one recruit he allowed to run rough shod over his program because if that recruit walked he would have been exposed as a clown who had signed no one and achieved virtually nothing since his vaunted first year class.

I believe that Walter Berry sat on the bench here for a year, a victim of the late Prop 48. When his grades still weren't right after year 1, that is when he went to San Jacinto.

Someone can correct me, if I am wrong about this.

I am fairly certain that never happened. I remember speaking to Mulling himself when I ran into him near campus a few months before the season and even Mullin wasn't sure he was coming. It was a long time ago , though.

Sounds like LoVett may have known about Jordan's status before he committed

Maybe, or maybe he was anticipating starting along side Jordan.

I always tell my kids to keep all their options open, and do your best at everything, so that as many decisions as possible are in your own hands.

It seems to me that Jordan made his mind up he was leaving eay before the season ended and made zero attempts at academics. Then Mullin comes in, speaks to Jordan, and Jordan wants to come back. Only one problem: he hasn't paid attention to school all semester. Mullin commented just a few weeks ago that Jordan was focusing on finals, but I'm guessing he was hopelessly behind. Big mistake. He messed up big time by giving up on school and in doing so destroyed his chances of playing next fall.

Don't wait around for second semester either. Suspect strongly we have seen the last of Jordan.

I bet he now wishes he knew mullin was coming before he crapped all over his academics now. Just means we start almost totally fresh roster wise and thats fine.

Feel the same way, but still hoping that this serves as a huge wake up call for Sheed, and that he spends the summer and fall committed to his studies in an effort to get his academics in order, and to have the opportunity suit up the second semester.

Presumably Jordan could still practice with the team while getting his academics in order. He would not have to miss a game of conference play. We are screwed if Lovett is the primary backup, he's a freshman. But really hope Jordan gets it together for his sake.
