Mo and Draft

Saw Jay Bilas on the street yesterday, in town for the draft (really nice guy by the way). Nothing groundbreaking, but he said "probably the teens" for Moe before pausing and adding ".....he's goooooooood". When I agreed and said that's why we were sorry to be losing him (and spared offering him the double-edged sword analysis of what Moe succeeding on the next level means for the program), he just kind of shook his head slightly and said "you can never keep anyone good these days".

I walked away reminding myself how nice it is to be operating in an arena where these comments now apply to our program.

Haven't read any speculation on this, but what are the chances Mo is drafted early, then traded once the whole draft shakes out. Had it happen with a couple players I've followed on draft night - most notably Kevin Love being swapped for OJ Mayo after the draft.

In other words, where Mo's drafted isn't as important as where he ends up. ;)

Not as important to his fans, but to his accountant where's he's drafted is the most important thing of all.

Silly move. They should invite the top 20 to cover themselves for any rising players. Won't they look silly when Moe hits the top 14.

GOD I hate when "experts" throw out stats and no clue what they're talking about. Watchin ESPNU's draft show. Steven A Smith talking about Harrison Barnes: "He's not going to be a bust, but he's not going to be a star, either. Just a decent pro. 17-20 pts, 6 or 7 rebounds - that's his ceiling".

I was PRAYING for SOMEONE among the Talking heads to ask him if he was saying Barnes was going to be another Scottie Pippin or James Worthy or Jamal Wilkes or Chris Mullin -- you know, guys who put up 17-20 pts and 6-7 rebs? Just "decent pros" - Pippin was 16.6 / 6.3. Worthy was 17.6 /5.1. Wilkes was 17.7/6.2. Chris was 18.2 / 4.1. All four are Hall of Famers.....

Zach Randolf 17 pts and 9 rpg. And Marbury had some nice pt. guard #s. Both nice players but not HOF'ers. Beauty of the game is ya kinda know one when you see one, and it's more then the #s.

Lol... Good point. And if I told people that the much maligned God's Gift Achiuwa's stats aren't far off from Andre Drummond's they probably wouldn't believe it either...

Great point MCN.
I for one am so fond of GG and I believe he can have a great season playing 25 minutes a game and not having to be super conscious of foul trouble.
He will also be surrounded by far more depth and more height.
Look for a real improved season.

Which is another perfect example why stats are completely meaningless.

From what I remember, Alonzo Morning had some pretty low stats @ GU. Didn't turn into a bad NBA player... Barnes is going to be the bust of the draft along with whoever selects Rivers.

The word I just got from NBA land is that teams that like Mo will tend to avoid talking about him. I was also told that he totally kicked butt in tryouts. Speculation is anywhere from 7 - 15 with a chance that Golden St. takes the plunge. As always he could fall a few spots as nerves kick in but it doesn't really matter that much long term as he's pretty much considered a surefire success over time.

If the first 6 picks go chalk, then GS really holds the cards for how the rest of the draft unfolds in so many ways.

Forget where I read it but sounded like mo kicked terrrence Ross but in a workout and rose wouldn't play against him again and the next stop. During his recent west coast trip

Saw a Mock today that had Moe going to Houston at 16. Does everyone know that pick was once owned by none other than......The Knicks. Figures.

Chad Ford's Draft Day morning Mock 10.0 has Moe going 18 to the Rockets, who own every even teen-numbered draft pick.

100% completely disagree. Stats are complely meaningFULL. It's just that you actually have to WORK to get the true meaning from them, not just simply take them at face value.

Um....no.

Alonzo put up 21.3 pts, 10.7 rebs, shot 59.5% from the floor, shot 76% on FTs, and blocked 160 shots as a senor.

You're probably thinking of that underachiever Patrick Ewing Sr., who only put up 14 pts and 9 rebs as a Gtown senior.
