Mo and Draft

Get over it. The Knicks Sixers isn't a real rivalry. It's born solely out of rivalries from other sports: Giants-Eagles, Mets-Phillies, Rangers-Flyers. Those are real rivalries. There's legitimate hate for those teams.

When was the last time someone called up WFAN to say the Sixers suck? I've never heard it in the 20+ years the station has been on the air.

What comes up when you google "Knicks Sixers rivalry"? ... Nothing.
 
 Yeah but it doesn't work out that way. In a perfect world him being successful wouldnt help them but we all know that wouldn't happen. I always supported Maurice and was happy for him since day 1 when he declared for the draft because that was his dream. Now I hope his dream is a nightmare.

Every team has a leading scorer you know. Regardless of their record.

You don't think a Duke fan who hates the Cavs isn't happy Kyrie led them in scoring. Or a Davidson fan who hates the Warriors that Steph Curry has been so successful? I mean there is no point in going on because the point should be pretty clear. A player can still be amazing stuck on a bad team.

Also I'm a Yankees fan, Rangers fan and Giants fan. I have certain teams I don't like. But if a player from my alma mater went to a competitor I would never say some of the things you have said. I don't like the Red Sox but wanted to see Hansen do well.

Agree Moose. Don't like any Philadelphia teams; Met, Giant, Knick and Ranger fan. Couldn't be happier for Mo, he has a great coach in Collins.

 The only reason their dumb fans dont like the pick is because they don't know him. If Mo had a nice year on like UNC or Duke people would be like oh that guy he is so good, but because they never really heard of STJ last year, they thing he is a no name who can't play. Also if any of you think the sixers and knicks are a real rivalry.... you are wrong. I am a fan of both teams because the knicks are new york and i love new york teams, and the sixers are young and fun to watch. There is no rivalry. If new york and sixers had a real rivalry, I wouldn't root for the sixers at all.

Exactly. I hate the Eagles with a passion and root against the Phillies but dont really have anything against the 76ers. Never rooted for them since they are in the atlantic division but they were the one Philadelphia team I can tolerate and like them more then the Celtics & Nets. Now that Moe is there I hope he becomes the face of the franchise and leads them to becoming an elite team just as long as the Knicks are a little better

Basketball is really nothing more than an afterthought here in Philly. The Eagles are first, followed by the Flyers and Phillies as 2(a) and 2(b). The Sixers don't exist. Even with a young and exciting team this year, sellouts were rare, and many times the building was not even half full.
Combine this with the moronic sports talk radio in this market...and it is no surprise that the Philly dolts hate the pick. They are stupid and know no better.

Wow. I don't get that but whatever. Moe is the easiest kid for us ( or at least me ) to root for in a long long time. This kid is old school great.

He's his own person ( wouldn't get tattoos and wouldn't do the mohawk thing last year during the season ) and last night during the draft one of the commentators said he wanted to be called Maurice and not by his nickname.

This kid grew up in not an easy environment and yet here is this kid mature beyond his years. This kid and how he was raised by his family is the perfect role model for any kid.

Personally for me at least I don't care who he plays for. This kid deserves nothing but great things in life and I'll root for philly against every team other than the knicks now

I couldn't care less what everyone's personal interpretation of Knicks-sixers is, I'm not rooting for a team from Philly I don't like the 76ers at all. And what I said before was pretty simple but of course half the people jump out of their seats with "wows" like somebody just seriously offended them. First off its not a big deal what I think there are far bigger issues in the world than me not rooting for Maurice anymore. Secondly if Mo is a big contributor,a team like Philly isn't going to stink so comparing it to Kyrie and the Cavs is not accurate. They have good young and proven pieces.

This just speaks to the culture of this board... Everyone starts panting over a contentious topic like the rabid fatties fighting over the coveted bouquet of flowers at a wedding. I'm not 10 bro, I'm a Knicks fan tried and true. Along with the Giants and Mets. That pits all of my teams against Philly, I've seen how those dogs act down there I choose not to align myself with them even after Mo gets drafted. He is the first of many to be coming out of St. John's under Lavin. Once again, people need to lighten up here

Not like he has a choice in a league where you're bound by law to the team that drafts you.

Perhaps Mo should just turn down the $1,443,300.00 Philly has to pay him this year, the $1,508,200.00 they have to pay him next year, and the $1,573,200.00 the have to pay for the 2015 season, and go play overseas for 3 years. Yeah, that would really impress the world with the intelligence of St. Johns players...
 
 Am I the only one who was bummed out by this pick? I'm happy for the artist formerly known as Mo but I'll never root for anyone who has Philadelphia written on the front of their jerseys. I hope he stinks and they trade him to golden state in 2 years where he averages 25 points per game and rips it up every night.

All the best to Mo (he'll always be Mo to me) and I hope he represents St. John's well. A lot of hating on Mo over on Facebook. Yeah, I was disappointed that he left early too, but I really can't blame him. And he did give it his all while he was here. So I wish him much personal success, but do hope that Philly stinks.

Hey Mo made the best out of a bad situation and that's a credit to him. Other kids might have griped over playing out of position for a losing team. Instead Mo did his best and he was rewarded handsomly. He is a class act and Philly got themselves a solid guy who will be an all star down the road. Their fans will wake up soon and it's nice that he'll be nearby for the Redmen fans who'll be watching him grow. Beats the hell out of Portland etc. Just the beginning of the new SJU/Lavin/NBA tradition. There will be plenty more in the coming years with the talent on our roster. Recruiting will be much easier now too. Thanks for everything Mo!!!

 I'm not blaming him for being drafted by Philly. I am saying I cannot in good conscience root for a philly player. He is a Philly player. Everyone is delving a little too deep into this when it's pretty simple. And knowing his game compared to the Knicks draft pick whose game I know very well also I can say with full confidence that the Knicks got the better of it. Only problem is that Olympiakos is more prestigious than a middle of the road NBA team so he will be staying there for a bit
