I'm not so sure he can. The longer this drags on, the worst it is going to be for him.

Pernetti will be the Scarlet Knight's president's sacrificial offering if the heat becomes too unbearable for him.

You already have the vertically challenged, yet influential, Lupica calling for his head. Will Francesa jump on the bandwagon today ?

If Rice dragged past today Pernetti would have been toast. I think he can survive. If he ignored it in the first place he would be gone too. He took some action. Was it enough? No but the President of the school was fine with it as well. Do they just clean house all the way to the top?

Agree about Carmody. I like Skinner too for them. Cluess and Hurley are a little too combustible I think coming out of the Rice era. They need calmer safer choices.
 
It's going to be tough to get a high profile guy for RU. There facilities aren't very good and they are going to be the doormat of the big ten for a few years. I don't know if he can get it but Steve Pikiell out of Stony Brook wouldn't be a bad choice. He has done a great job out there and has big east roots. He is a character guy and would never embarrass the the university and probably wouldn't cost too much.

Gov has the call on the Barchi/Pernetti combo. The fact that they made a decision to take a bullet for of all people, Mike Rice, is insane. IMO, they should have been dismissed along with Mike today.

If its Christie's call since its state school and all what involvement did he had when the first suspension happened? Was he aware? Should he have been then?

Don't know anything about him, other than that he has a done good job at SB.

Certainly should be in the initial conversation.
 
Should be a clean sweep. Pres, AD, coach. The fish stinks from the head! They tried to cover their tracks and got burned. Instead of negotiating, they should have fired Rice when this came out last year. If they wanted to save face, they could have told Rice (in private) that he should resign, and that they will pay his salary for the remainder of his salary (as they would have had to do if he had been fired outright), put out a statement that Rice felt it was best for the University, etc. and then everyone could have gone thier seperate ways. Now, this thing blows up in their face and they look like idiots for trying to sweep this under the rug. On top of that, the fact that the coach used gay slurs will totally destroy any credibility that Pernetti and Rutgers had as far as learning from the Tyler Clementi case. Once Christie gets involved, all bets are off as far as anyone keeping their jobs there. Remember, they are State employees.

SJUalum, yes, I know all about Cecilia Chang. And if you'd read my post in that thread on the other forum, you'd know I did in fact say the same thing about our administration. I was equally fair in my "stone throwing" and didn't hit any glass houses.
 
I may be in the minority but I feel bad for Rice and his family. He's a very good coach. Hopefully he cleans up his act and gets another chance to coach. It would be interesting to see videos of his practices since he was suspended last fall. I wonder if he had learned a lesson and was on the right path or if it was more of what we saw on the tape.

Good ?s You wouldn't think he would be involved offering counsel back in Nov but nothing would ever surprise me.

Rutgers has seen their share of problems, just for starters, Bannon, Fred Hill to some degree, The Imus women's BB thing, then the horrible tragedy of Tyler Clementi.

I wonder what would have happened if there was video on Bobby G. not just interviews and press reports. SH quickly did the right thing and got rid of BG; unlike what Rutgers did here.

I thought it was very odd at the start of the season you have a coach suspended with very little information about why, obviously now we all know why. What a mess.

I'm sure that Christie had nothing to do with the suspension or the investigation back in the Fall. He had much bigger things going on in the aftermath of Sandy, and he can't get himself involved in the administration of the athletic program at on of the State University campuses. Its not his job.
