Quick question for Making Plays... what do Arkansas fans think of the Musselman hire? Just curious.
I think most people think it's a good hire right now. and willing to give him a chance. Me personally, I think he's a good coach, and I'm not going to bash him and I'll give him a fair shot and root for success for my Hogs. However, there are still some people, myself included, that think CMA got a raw deal and should have been given another year with the young talent he had. That's why you see a lot of Hog fans torn over the decision right now and a lot still supporting CMA, you don't see fans ride so hard for a coach too often like the people have been riding for CMA, there was companies changing their billboards around here in support of him. You even have some former Hog players torn over it, that have been very vocal about how he was treated.
We'll learn pretty soon what Musselman is made of, he's said himself he was left with a NCAA tournament team, he said the team we have at Arkansas right now has more talent than his sweet 16 team he had a couple of years ago at Nevada. He's going to be expected to win big pretty soon or it'll get ugly for him. Also, I know one thing Hunter Yurachek (Arkansas AD) did not want to see is CMA getting another job so quickly, especially a school like St. John's that has history, tradition, and the potential for CMA to win big. If CMA starts winning big here and Musselman struggles or doesn't surpass what CMA did while there, both he and Yurachek are going to be packing. In Arkansas, things like this are magnified because we have no pro teams and no other high major university, so the Razorbacks are treated the the state's pro team, and it's very unforgiving.
The insight and history which you add to this forum about CMA and the University of Arkansas is greatly appreciated. The fact that your posts deal with facts as opposed to opinion give them greater credence in addition to their being exceptionally diplomatic.
