So if I have it straight CMA was hired six days ago.
Since then he has hired one assistant coach, has held multiple workouts and it seems everyone is back except LJ, so far, has been on talk shows, met with members of the Red and White Club , met with students , am I missing anything ?
Seems to me that he is doing a hell of a lot more than the prior staff.
I take my hat off to him.

Like everything I see and read about our new coach so far. Next few weeks should be exciting.

Whether this meet the students is purely CMAs initiative, perhaps the southern charm Dinkins referred to, perhaps sôlely his own initiative which is great too. However, I feel, no inside knowledge , that our strong AD , has a little role in all of this reaching out to all groups. Much more contact with all the important groups ( red white for funds and students for loud support ) than prior staffs and for this I applaud both CMA and AD Mike Cragg.

No matter who had the idea, just seeing CMA walking around our campus interacting with students put a big smile on my face. Who was our last basketball coach that did that? I can't remember that far back. Kudos, Coach Mike. Well done!!

I hope he has a chip on his shoulder after being fired at Arkansas. Hopefully he looks back on his average performance at Ark and compares it to his high success at Mizzou and identifies what differences in approach led to different outcomes.
I think most here would be thrilled if he got STJ to some point in between his average Ark tenure and his successful Missou tenure. If he manages to totally turn back the clock and have the Johnnies on the dominant level his Missouri squads were at, it would be a dream.

He’s had a great career thus far, but he was just fired for not getting Arkansas to where they expect them to be. I don’t think Anderson would move all the way to the northeast as soon as he got the offer, just because he needs a few bucks. I think he’s driven to prove people wrong and that he can win big.

I don’t think he’s here just to mess around. I think he probably wants some personal redemption. I think SJU is a great place for him. We are a basketball-centric school who couldn’t get a thing right over the past 30 years. I think he will enjoy coaching in the Big East, for fans who haven’t seen winning forever. I don’t think our expectations are unreasonable compared to the ones at Arkansas. He’s got it made if he gets us consistently winning.

Arkansas would have eventually fired CMA even if he won a National Championship. CMA is the 3rd winningest coach in Arkansas school history and had a couple of the best regular season records in school history in the past 5 years. He's had the 3rd best SEC conference record during his 8 years at Arkansas, on top of competing in 2 SEC tournament championship games, and making post season 5 out of 8 years when the program he inherited was a dumpster fire that needed a complete rebuild.

No other school other than a blue blood fires a coach with CMA's resume and his ties to the school, especially a coach that's never had a scandal and most of the community/state loves him. I'm born and raised in Arkansas, and I can tell you Arkansas will be Arkansas a lot of us know how it is here, so this doesn't surprise us, there was some that have significant influence that never wanted Mike at Arkansas and have been very vocal about that since the day he arrived, and when they finally got the type of AD they wanted (A good old boy) he wasted no time in doing their dirty work for them and getting rid of CMA.

Keep in mind Arkansas fired Nolan Richardson, who's in every basketball hall of fame, and certain people in Arkansas were killing his farm animals and calling him and giving him death threats when he won a National Championship and had numerous final fours. Any other coach with Richardson's resume would have been given a huge long term contract with job security, at Arkansas... we fire them and run them out of town, then protest him when students try to get the court named after him. It took 20 years for them to finally approve of the court getting named after Nolan and even then there was a lot of backlash. As we say here.... only in Arkansas.

Anyways sorry for the long rant :) Just a history lesson for life in Arkansas for some of you guys.

Our death threats are limited to threatening suicide.

Buddy of mine who works at sju just had a nice conversation with both coach Anderson and coach Cleveland. He said they were genuine guys. He said they said filling immediate roster gaps year 1 is the priority without getting specific. No great inside scoop there but it is nice these guys are out and about willing to chat with both staff and students.

Thanks for the insight. Interesting perspective. Think you’ll have a number of Johnnies fans rooting for Arkansas

82 pages of reflection on our new coach Mike Anderson - for the most part filled with happiness and ease. One advantage of two decades filled with frustration:
None of us will overlook what we have begun and none of us will fail to count our blessings.
This is a good time to be a St. John’s fan.
Thanks you Mike Cragg. Thanks you Mike Anderson.
You are already giving us a lot. And we will return the goodwill and satisfaction.
All the best.
And oh, St. John’s might just be on its way back to our high water mark: ranked, making the tournament, making some noise.
Do I hear the term “ relevant”?
Good night to all - especially those early to bed early to rise posters - lol
Quick question for Making Plays... what do Arkansas fans think of the Musselman hire? Just curious.
I think most people think it's a good hire right now. and willing to give him a chance. Me personally, I think he's a good coach, and I'm not going to bash him and I'll give him a fair shot and root for success for my Hogs. However, there are still some people, myself included, that think CMA got a raw deal and should have been given another year with the young talent he had. That's why you see a lot of Hog fans torn over the decision right now and a lot still supporting CMA, you don't see fans ride so hard for a coach too often like the people have been riding for CMA, there was companies changing their billboards around here in support of him. You even have some former Hog players torn over it, that have been very vocal about how he was treated.

We'll learn pretty soon what Musselman is made of, he's said himself he was left with a NCAA tournament team, he said the team we have at Arkansas right now has more talent than his sweet 16 team he had a couple of years ago at Nevada. He's going to be expected to win big pretty soon or it'll get ugly for him. Also, I know one thing Hunter Yurachek (Arkansas AD) did not want to see is CMA getting another job so quickly, especially a school like St. John's that has history, tradition, and the potential for CMA to win big. If CMA starts winning big here and Musselman struggles or doesn't surpass what CMA did while there, both he and Yurachek are going to be packing. In Arkansas, things like this are magnified because we have no pro teams and no other high major university, so the Razorbacks are treated the the state's pro team, and it's very unforgiving.
