I, too, am very optimistic about Greg Williams.
Talented, but raw.

You can't guarantee results, but you should expect all-out effort from our coaches, especially at the salary they are pulling down. I think AD Cragg has a good one in this guy. We'll see, but this could be the beginning of a beautiful relationship.

Also don’t underestimate Greg Williams as your next point guard. Greg shined in his limited opportunities this year and I feel if given the chance he would have been great. He has excellent court vision , a good ball handler , and is great going to the basket! Ponds was not a great distributor, more of a combo guard. Simon was not a ball handler, much too much careless unprovoked turnovers. Greg will shine, mark these words, give him a chance under this new coach.
Fred I don't know about shining as our point guard but I do know he plays with confidence and never seemed hesitant even though he didn't get a tremendous amount of playing time. Loved his slashing and dunking after a missed shot.
So Williams is staying?

If you look at his fathers twitter feed it certainly looks like he is

In Most opportunities he played under control but he needed to get 15-20 minutes a game last season for us and didn’t get the minutes to have that confidence in him for next year. I’m betting if thrown out there he develops quickly.Just liked what I saw. That 12-0 start should have been a developmental period but instead Chris M needed it to justify his “ incremental progress “ comment. Because if we were 8-4 instead of 12-0 , our season record looks more like 17-17.

Nothing mentioned as of yet but his dad is a big St Johns fan so I would think and hope yes.But you never know

Don’t know if anybody saw this but nice inspirational edit of the press conference yesterday.

Really excited to see what coach Mike can do. I honestly like our chances to compete next year if LJ, Heron and Williams stay. I think we would see a really good version of Williams next year. Don’t know what Steere brings but if he can hit the glass and if we can keep Roberts and Ellison and coach can really get them rebounding, we’re gonna be ok.

Best of luck coach Mike. Let’s make this happen.
I read these comments and you guys are looking thru rose colored glasses. This is more rebuilding and the administration wants us to be suckers again 20 plus years and counting. ONLY ONE THING WILL BRING BACK OUR TEAM - WHEN ATTENDANCE PLUMMETS AND THE POWERS THAT BE FINALLY GET THE MESSAGE . I am not wasting another penny on tickets. It is over. They had the answers in Cleuss or Pitino and they picked a guy who just got fired to save money. WAKE UP!!
Didn't you say you were leaving? Then, why do you continue to linger. If you're going to continue to post, do everyone here a favor and do it on Matt Doherty's Facebook page.
I said I was not renewing my 3 season tickets. That has nothing to do with me following the team and posting in the future. I want the program to be successful but the administration is counting pennies and they will continue to do so and serve you the rebuilding juice until you make yourselves known by dropping your tickets. Let them play in an empty garden if that is what it will take. To all you kool aid kids out there it is more than 20 years and they still haven't rebuilt. Wake up!!!

Since you KNOW the administration is counting pennies, how much are they paying coach Mike Anderson?

I would think Mr. Williams, Sr., knows of Mike Anderson and regards him highly.
Let's hope.

Certainly looks like Greg is staying
Great news - he has a lot of potential
Should be a major contributor down the road
