I'm born, bred and raised in the south. If any of y'all are familiar about anything when it comes to the south, one thing many of us seem to possess is charm. Mike Anderson seems to have it. He also reminds me of your typical southern baptist preachers by the way he presents himself. I'm not saying he'll automatically cultivate living rooms and consistently grab us 5-star and high-level 4-star players, but I believe he and a solid staff will be able to garner their share of 4-star kids. He seems geniune, and that may help along the way when targeting kids and their parents/guardians/coaches/advisers.
I'm not sure what can or will occur, but sometimes fortune favors the brave. In this case, Anderson was brave enough to take on this job, so he may be fortunate enough to have some success here.
I'm looking forward to our future prospects.
All of the last 6 coaches were able to recruit and get top 25/NCAA tourney level talent here. Even Norm. And the last 2 coaches did so without even trying all that hard. If CMA rounds out his staff with a couple of top recruiters(get Borman here!) I have no doubt that he will attract a higher caliber of talent, and put together a deeper and more balanced roster, then any of the last 3 coaches did. Not saying that he'll attract Fraschilla level talent, but I'm saying he should be able to get enough talent here, and have enough of a balanced roster, to have us consistently in the top 25. I am hopeful(but nowhere near certain), that he can coach that talent up to at least the level of their abilities. If this is the case(and that's a big "if"), then CMA will have a nice run here. As with all the other coaching hires, even Norm, I remain cautiously optimistic.
Agreed, Fran was a first-rate recruiter and brought a good share highly rated local talent here. However, that was over 20 years ago, and for a number of reasons, there are a lot fewer players of that calibre in NYC schools these days. That said, I expect Anderson to do better than Mullin, who pathetically had only one local kid on last year's team) . If nothing else, we know he'll at least make the effort to get them here.
