Mike Anderson

I guess Anderson was somewhere in Arkassas on Thursday, in NY taking the job on Friday and based on his press conference comments, by Sunday night he will have done more work than three of the prior staff would have accomplished, not counting Matt,
Coaching college basketball is a grueling, long hours job which is one reason why the pay is so good and some people like the majority of the prior coaching staff just didn't have the necessary commitment or in Mullin's case ran into personal problems which prevented them from putting forth that effort. While they weren't putting in that effort the opposition was.
Dee, sorry that we didn’t hire Matt Doherty. Maybe next time.
Very good memory, Matty. And to think he's bashing Anderson's hiring.
I have guarded optimism about this hire. Mike was by the far the best option of what we were left with on that last day. If we had hired Jones or Hewitt, I felt our chances of remaining a viable Big East program would continue to fade. I feel like Mike gives us a chance to maintain some dignity and possibly get the program headed back in the right direction. I have no delusions that we will be competing for National Championships. At this point, I would be thrilled if we have a winning record and are in the hunt for NCAA tournament most seasons and finally win a game.
If ma gets to the ncaa this year, he'd have done more in his first year then the last 3 coaches in the last 20years.

I’m a newer poster but a long time lurker- since 2000 or so.

I'm just giving a hard time because he mentioned earlier in the week (paraphrased) "Cragg was sent to St. John's to sabotage the program" or something of that nature.

Terrific hire! Coach Anderson has been there and knows how to kick start the program. I think NYC area recruits will love his style. He may also open up a pipeline to national players as he is very well known. I think his assistants will be top notch. One must be one with local connections. Have a feeling we don't lose any players.
You must be drinking kool aide from Marillac Hall. I am tired of being a sucker. We have been rebuilding for 20 years. Now they had a chance to get Pitino or at least Cleuss. Instead they get a guy who was fired from Arkansas. They said he never had a losing season. Well this year will be his first of many losing seasons to come. They hired another Norm Robert's. If they think I am going to spend money on season tickets they have another guess coming. Maybe when no one shows up at the Garden they will hire a real coach and one with NY ties
Best possible hire and more than we could have hoped for under the circumstances.

I'm born, bred and raised in the south. If any of y'all are familiar about anything when it comes to the south, one thing many of us seem to possess is charm. Mike Anderson seems to have it. He also reminds me of your typical southern baptist preachers by the way he presents himself. I'm not saying he'll automatically cultivate living rooms and consistently grab us 5-star and high-level 4-star players, but I believe he and a solid staff will be able to garner their share of 4-star kids. He seems geniune, and that may help along the way when targeting kids and their parents/guardians/coaches/advisers.

I'm not sure what can or will occur, but sometimes fortune favors the brave. In this case, Anderson was brave enough to take on this job, so he may be fortunate enough to have some success here.

I'm looking forward to our future prospects.
You have charm?????
Ha! Touche'. By the way, damn you and mkras. How's that for charm? Haha!

Ironic: The program's already been sabotaged albeit unintentionally; no need to send Cragg here to do it.

Wow, Rothstein’s tweet is wildly optimistic. A team that wants to play “frenetic” Can win if everyone stays AND we have a PG. Those are two pretty big Ifs. We currently don’t have a true PG that I see.
MA has plenty of heavy lifting to have that happen. Let’s see what he is able to do. I am looking forward to seeing his vision.

I get recruiting is a worry but honestly outside of Pitino that was going to be a question for whoever we hired. I like our future outlook, though I have been wrong before and WE ARE ST John's....

For next year if LJ & Heron come back, we figure out who will play point, Steere / Roberts(if he stays) give anything I think we make the tourney.
I know that those are three big thing but I think 2 of 3 are very possible. Point guard thing is most worrisome.

I agree with what you said. No way though this team is making Tourney without a PG or two. The style MA wants to play relies heavily on backcourt play. He’ll get someone but we’ll need to see if that is good enough.

Marillac will have a heart attack but a shame about Simon as this style would have been great for him.

Fits Simon like a glove. Heron and LJ obviously will benefit but they need some to get them the ball. Team will also need to be deeper. Foul troubles will increase.

Don’t know if anybody saw this but nice inspirational edit of the press conference yesterday.

Really excited to see what coach Mike can do. I honestly like our chances to compete next year if LJ, Heron and Williams stay. I think we would see a really good version of Williams next year. Don’t know what Steere brings but if he can hit the glass and if we can keep Roberts and Ellison and coach can really get them rebounding, we’re gonna be ok.

Best of luck coach Mike. Let’s make this happen.
