For the last couple of years SJU had a roster much more suited for Anderson's style of play with Ponds, Lovett, Simon, LJ , Williams and Roberts than Mullin's three point shooting style.
It sounds like Wright fits into this mold also and perhaps the SJU athlete and Anderson's coaching style will mesh.
BTW, who is still on the team? I know Mack is gone, hopefully Keita followed.

Wright
Caraher
Williams, but hurry Mike A :)

Steere
Keita
Roberts
Heron

Didnt know about the revamp so I take back the like comment, but I'm far from a youngster. In the meanwhile I'm gonna keep cheering this team, see you down the road
I only meant that you were a youngster to this site.
I Graduated in 1976. I have been a fan ever since. I have spent tens of thousands of dollars on this team. My heart and soul was in this team and they have let me down year after year after year. My son and grandchildren are fans of this team because of me. I am so done! Pitino is the the logical hire but this program is so afraid of not being squeaky clean after the Jarvis regime (20 years ago) that they won't make a good decision.
Do we know if Pitino is cleared to coach by the NCAA. isn't he still under investigation in some way? As great as that hire would have been, the school did not need a picture of him being lead out of the GYM in handcuffs.

Sorry to derail the MA thread but I don’t understand all the hate for Keita. Mobile big man with some shot blocking skills. He can be taught defense and benefit from a coach that emphasizes rebounding. He could help coming off the bench.

This is an excellent point that I was also thinking this morning. Anderson starts off with one potential advantage which is that the players previously recruited and in the program are perfect fits for the way he wants to play. It isn't a sea change from the way Mullin wanted to play, it should just be better executed. Hopefully that will help him with re-recruiting the existing players and if he does that it gives him a solid base to work from. LJ, Heron, Williams and Roberts are all natural fits in Anderson's system. I think Earlington will thrive as well, and Keita will be a contributor. Haven't seen Steere or Carraher so don't know about them, but if he keeps all of those and adds some depth at guard Year 1 may be a surprisingly good one.

Earlington too I believe

Interesting. Tweet says presser is at MSG. I guess holding it in Queens doesn’t have the same cache. Either that or the media doesn’t want to take the drive to Queens during rush hour.
It may have to do with the school being closed for Good Friday.
Absolutely correct. Even the baseball team's "home' game today will be held at Old Westbury weather permitting and the Softball Team played a Double Header yesterday vs DePaul so they are off today and play the last game of the three game series is tomorrow.

He seems like a solid choice.

I know it may be a long shot but if I were him, one of the first things I would try to do is convine LJ to stay and rerecruit Mack.

If everyone else stays, there starting 5 would probably be:

C: Steere
PF: Figueroa
SF: Heron
SG: Williams
PG: Mack

Backups: Roberts, Keita, Wright, Caraher, Earlington.

That team will be a lot more talented than what Mullin started with. I read that he likes to press often so that should appeal to a lot of guys because they will get their share of minutes.
Mack is gone
Lets move on
I did say that Mack would be a long shot. However, the main point of the post is that the talent on the team is better than when Mullin started so hopefully the team can be competitive in a shorter time frame.

Even if Mack is 100% done, Williams showed some flashes last year that he can be the PG. His athleticism is off the charts. If he gets a consistent shot and can make the right decisions with the ball in his hands, us fans will be very happy.

Happy doesn’t David as DOBO put us in the Hicks situation where we can’t get any players he coached for 2 years? And doesn’t that cause a problem for Curbello?
Welcome aboard coach. He was by far the best option of the last group of candidates that was left and I think kids are going to love his running style of play. He also places a huge emphasis on defense and rebounding which means Keita is announcing his transfer in 20 minutes :) One thing that I am trying to put my finger on is the prospective assistant names that are already been thrown out there. This means he was hired with the caveat that someone in administration will have input in the assistant choosing process. Does this reek of desperation for the job by Anderson or is it him taking a whatever it takes attitude off the bat to be successful here? Either way I like the hire and also hope we hear Rasheen Davis and Jay David's name mentioned as possible coaches with the latter being absolutely perfect for a DOBO job :)
I had to sleep on this because when I read this in the middle of the night, nothing sounds great.

Really good job. Apparently Cragg was doing his job and had more latitude and authority than reported. No matter what the options, optics, or commentary, they appear to have gotten this right, and made a solid choice.
Is Simon 100% gone?
Simon seems like he would absolutely flourish in Anderson's system wreaking havoc on D. Maybe a chance he comes back?

I'd like to see a PG and a legit big man added immediately and if we keep those guys we'd have a very good team. LJ is a full court player and will be a beast in and Anderson style team. I wasn't expecting Heron to return but if he did without relying upon him to post-D would be fantastic. Anderson had one commit for 2019 a 3 star PG. Don't know if that on the table with coaching change but I saw that he was also involved with a JUCO big 6'10 240.

Can he? Didn't he sign with an agent

A juco and/or grad transfer big and a PG and we can be fine. Try to keep everybody who’s here on board and we can be fine.

I dont care that he doesn't have NY connections, I care if hes a good coach. It would be nice to get a couple local player ie. Andre...Precious, but that said, most good teams in college have players from all over with a couple in state sprinkled in. If 10 out of state players plus an oos coach lead us to tourney I'm all in

The agent rules have been lessened so long as he pays back any expenses.
My prediction - or should I say hope-- is that the admin will pay up big $$ for Anderson, thus shoving it right back in Repole's face.
I don't think there is anything to throw back in Repole's face. Once his radio explosion was made, the entire recruiting process for a coach changed. Before Repole, they were chasing no-name cheaper coaches. All of a sudden they have a real coach with a real record.
