That would be huge and would help mitigate my disappointment over this entire debacle. I was really hoping we could land a coach who had his teams consistently in the top 25 and consistantly in the big dance. In spite of the euphoria about this hiring, Anderson did not do that that consistently. Anyhow since he’s the best we could havre hoped for at this point, with the right assistants maybe he can improve upon his history. I’m skeptical, but he’s here so I’ll hope for the best. With 300 wins, I see him as sort of the Don Sutton of college basketball coaches. Solid, but unspectacular. Let’s see if that’s enough for our fan base a year or two from now.

I'd be good with getting Davis in here too if MA can't bring his former assistant with him. I think UMass has some immediately eligible kids floating in limbo if it comes to that . . .

After this debacle, anyone who displays some X's and O's acumen and is visible on recruiting trail will have support for several years. If we keep Figgy and Heron and find a decent PG transfer and add a mobile big man or a decent SF who doesn't mind playing PF, I think we are in pretty good shape in year one. Not many other guys in the search made me feel the same. Jones would have been the death of the program.

Tall order! LOL
Here's to hoping, though.Year one could easily be another wipeout roster-wise but would hope that year 2 is half-decent.

I expect the next two - three weeks will be very active/interesting on the recruiting front both internally and externally. Granted I am the eternal optimist, but I have a feeling we will be more happy than disappointed with the results. As Chicago likes to say, time will tell!

The talk of Borman coming aboard is exciting. Just look at the N.Y. Rens AAU roster and drool. Also check in on the PSA Cardinals. The talent on these teams is awesome.
Meanwhile, schools being out, Precious, who is uncommitted might be home for the holidays.
Rens, Tabor, Kuminga, and Cisse would a nice start.

I read this morning that Arkansas had the 2nd most conference wins during his 8 years as HC, only trailing Kentucky.
I think we would be ecstatic with that scenario, let alone fire a guy that can produce similar results.
I keep reading people say our coach needs local connections. Why? How many kids on our current roster are local? As we've learned, not many kids are looking to stay home anymore.
The top recruits with NYC ties (Cole Anthony. Precious, etc...are going elsewhere. If Coach Anderson casts a national net...that's the way it goes.

Welcome aboard coach. He was by far the best option of the last group of candidates that was left and I think kids are going to love his running style of play. He also places a huge emphasis on defense and rebounding which means Keita is announcing his transfer in 20 minutes :) One thing that I am trying to put my finger on is the prospective assistant names that are already been thrown out there. This means he was hired with the caveat that someone in administration will have input in the assistant choosing process. Does this reek of desperation for the job by Anderson or is it him taking a whatever it takes attitude off the bat to be successful here? Either way I like the hire and also hope we hear Rasheen Davis and Jay David's name mentioned as possible coaches with the latter being absolutely perfect for a DOBO job :)
He's 60. The game is definitely trending towards younger coaches. I wouldn't call it desperation but I think its fair to say we could be his last chance at it.

Supposedly there were some assistant 'demands' we can say from admin. And that did turn off some. But I'm ok with it. It is a bit of a foreign land to him.

In terms of DOBO and David. Just technicality but if we did that we couldn't get Curbelo, no? Doesn't he have to be a full time assistant?
According to my superstitious mindset, this will be a great hire because Mike was born a day after one of my ‘signature’ disastrous romances a long long time ago. Lol.
Welcome aboard Mike!

Although it's true that most outstanding local kids go the prep route they start out here and are identified by 7th grade, if not sooner, plus they play on local AAU teams so having that contact matters. Of course we need to cast a nation-wide net but showing these local studs some love is important too.

The reason we don't have more local kids on the roster is because the one guy who did recruit was tunnel visioned into transfers and JCs. I'm sure that's going to change.

Told there will be another welcome gathering on campus for Anderson in not too distant future.

Not sure the NYC links are as important as they used to be. Recruiting is a national game now.

And for all the handwringing from the local coaches, they haven't done St. John's any favors – not for Mullin, Lavin, Roberts, Jarvis and down the line. Sure, some of that rests with our coaches, but it's a two-way street.

Anderson brings a track record of running well-coached teams. If he can do that and develop players, the pipeline will open up quickly enough.

When was last time SJU had a solid but unspectacular coach?

Agree about the local coaches not doing us any favors, but maybe if we get somebody connected to the local AAU scene that could change.

Arbitello had some positive remarks in regard to Anderson. Wouldn't be so bad to get a CTK kid once in a while.
