I think I made clear I was all in for Pitino. Short of his hire I am thrilled that we hired a head coach with big time experience. I love the list he is on of coaches with 15+ years and no sub .500 record and of course the fact that he beat Cooley last month. Let's get a great staff together, hopefully we don't go cheap on that to make up head coach salary. In today's world there are a lot of players available this time of year. At this time a year ago we had no idea about Heron or Figgy. Let's get to work. Only worry is he comes from SEC where if you ain't cheating you ain't trying.

For the last couple of years SJU had a roster much more suited for Anderson's style of play with Ponds, Lovett, Simon, LJ , Williams and Roberts than Mullin's three point shooting style.
It sounds like Wright fits into this mold also and perhaps the SJU athlete and Anderson's coaching style will mesh.

I am willing to give the new coach the benefit of the doubt. However, I would not classify this as a home run hire. Little early to celebrate. We have been down this road so many times my head is spinning. All I have to show for my faith is that I am a lot older. He will need to prove himself with recruiting and in game coaching. Our beloved Program hasn’t exactly excelled in these areas. The guy deserves our support but he also needs to do the work to bring us back into contention. Heavy lifting still remains.
I look forward to hearing the press conference but what happens after is all that really matters.
Apparently the fans in Fayetteville loved this guy, as evidenced:

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure... Arkansas thinks they’re Duke. I’ll gladly sign up for being as competitive as they have been and SJU fans will be elated if we have close to that much success. Thank you for firing Mike Anderson Hogs. soooooowwwweeeee

I don't believe Arkansas fires him unless they think they are getting Beard or Sampson. Lucky for us he was available.

It's a solid double off the wall.
It's a home run when compared to Jones, Hewitt and Moser.

Interesting. Tweet says presser is at MSG. I guess holding it in Queens doesn’t have the same cache. Either that or the media doesn’t want to take the drive to Queens during rush hour.

Anderson may or may not be a home run but he was the best option available to us and clearly better than the alternatives that Moose mentioned above. In addition, Anderson's teams have consistently produced an exciting style of play which we will enjoy and embrace. If he is surrounded by the right assistant coaches, there is every reason to believe that Anderson will be as successful at St John's as he has been at previous stops. I really believe that being a "local" is highly overrated. Guys like Borman and Hsu are very capable of delivering NY area kids and Anderson has a national reputation with strong ties in the south and mid west.

While this may not be the grand salami that we all wished for, I think that this will prove to be a very good hire. I feel a whole lot better about our program than I did one week ago. Thank you, Mike Cragg, for getting it done.

I would like it if I had any idea what it meant. Like his logo though.
Kind of like Gary Charles tweet last night. I didn't know it that was a good tweet or a shot at the process.
What did he say?
I am not too upset about it. Dog and pony show is one of the nicest things that have been said about the hiring process.

Have a hard time believing SJU will have a 4pm press conference on Good Friday.

Maybe but it didn’t stop them from announcing today. Good move, either way. Optics highlighting We play at MSG can’t hurt.

I think holding the press conference at MSG also has to do with Cragg wanting to raise the profile of the program. Just like he wants to play most of our home games there etc.

Stats from the presser just sent out

A protégé of Nolan Richardson and his signature “40 Minutes of Hell” style, Anderson-led teams have topped the nation in steals four times and have ranked among the top 30 14 times in 17 seasons. His teams also led the country in assists once and have ranked among the top 30 on eight occasions. Seven times as a head coach, Anderson has seen his squads rank in the top 30 in scoring offense. This past season, the Razorbacks ranked 22nd nationally in both steals and assists per game while placing 12th in blocks per outing.

Wow never expected this. Doom and gloom all week. Have to wonder if Anderson will bring his Arkansas staff. Hopefully Cragg has insisted on hiring guys like Hsu and Borman. It would be nice to recruit some AAU kids. And how about some assistant who can finally coach defense.
Anyone know if Anderson recruits for 2019 - 20 will possibly follow him here.
