No it's done.
Ok, thanks. This is SJU, so just used to bad things happening.

Roger Rubin broke the news I suspect because he works at Newsday, which is owned by Cablevision, which owns the Garden, which was informed ahead of time that SJU wanted to hold its presser today there.

Welcome aboard coach. He was by far the best option of the last group of candidates that was left and I think kids are going to love his running style of play. He also places a huge emphasis on defense and rebounding which means Keita is announcing his transfer in 20 minutes :) One thing that I am trying to put my finger on is the prospective assistant names that are already been thrown out there. This means he was hired with the caveat that someone in administration will have input in the assistant choosing process. Does this reek of desperation for the job by Anderson or is it him taking a whatever it takes attitude off the bat to be successful here? Either way I like the hire and also hope we hear Rasheen Davis and Jay David's name mentioned as possible coaches with the latter being absolutely perfect for a DOBO job :)
He's 60. The game is definitely trending towards younger coaches. I wouldn't call it desperation but I think its fair to say we could be his last chance at it.

Supposedly there were some assistant 'demands' we can say from admin. And that did turn off some. But I'm ok with it. It is a bit of a foreign land to him.

In terms of DOBO and David. Just technicality but if we did that we couldn't get Curbelo, no? Doesn't he have to be a full time assistant?
I'm ok with the demands as well because it will be much needed. I can't remember the rule on how far removed time wise a coach has to be from a kid in order for it to be kosher to recruit him :) You bring up a very good point though and either way Jay would be really valuable at St John's and he loves the school . There are many different ways Coach could go but hiring a guy like Jay wouldn't make anyone upset in the area as he is pretty much universally liked by most. :)

Couple of interesting points too.

He only had 1 recruit coming in next year. He had no seniors but 1 player declared for the draft. So the team was extremely young last year. Lot of comments he should have been given another year to coach them.

Oh and he beat Cooley in the NIT. Beating Cooley sounds fun.

You're a smart one.
Missed you around here.

Per Zach

Sources; Rens AAU director Andy Borman will be considered for Mike Anderson's staff if this gets finished as expected. #sjubb
Long rumored quid pro quo hire which may also indicate Cragg could stick around imo.
I hope so Paultz. If the only thing that comes of Repole's Rant is that Cragg has wrested control of the program from Bobby and Joe then it was 1000% worthwhile.

Anderson is a quality coach. The only box he doesn't check is local connections.

I'm hopeful that this is Cragg's hire and that it means he's here long term. Adding Borman would be another big step in that direction.

Great choice! I saw a nice short inside look at Arkansas bb on the SEC channel awhile back and he seems like a very high character guy. Anyone know the terms of his deal?
Welcome Mike glad to have you on board. Thank goodness for Cragg we avoided what could have been a complete disaster. The man is a proven coach which is all we wanted. Hopefully the Borman rumors are true, that would be a smart hire considering the NY Rens are the best AAU team in NYC. Thats how teams operate now a days, hire an AAU guy to get the connect.

Anderson should be able to recruit the southeast states which have a ton of talented kids. Maybe hire someone who recruits the DMV area (Hatten?) and we have the entire east coast to draw talent from; in theory at least. Its been mentioned already MA has good JUCO connects which can really help bridge gaps to avoid complete rebuild seasons. Hopefully RMNorth is right and Curbelo is pretty much a lock to come here. Keep LJ and Williams and try to get Mack and Manuel to recommit and we are looking pretty good.

I think Heron goes pro so that probably means Tabor is out too but maybe they come back who knows. Either way I think we are in good hands with the Mikes, hopefully get a third one back on board (Repole) and get cracking on those facility upgrades ASAP. We seem to have made out pretty good I thought we were doomed. This is why Cragg was hired let that man do his job.
No info whatsoever, but would think that Heron would already have made his move.
And in the stroke of a tweet redmen.com United from agony to tears of joy
Joy?

Tears of optimism perhaps...

I liked his Missouri and UAB teams. Only question really is will he ne able to recruit in Northeast. Considering the shit show this became, outside of Pitino, this was absolutely the best hire we could have hoped for.

Don’t know much about coach, but from what I’m reading here, we did a great job. I’m really excited to have a winning coach coming, who, apparently, the kids love playing for. Another thing about NY connections, we are a national university, let’s get the best players no matter where they live! NY kids are great, but I don’t think that’s the end all and be all. Anyway, Congratulations coach Anderson! Good Friday, hopefully a sign of new life for our team!

Officially worried now.
Years ago, we said “thank you Mrs. Hewitt”. Hopefully, now we’ll be saying “ Thank you Mrs. Moser”
And hopefully this time we'll be right!

For those concerned about Mike Anderson not having strong local recruiting ties, let things play out with his staff. There’s a strong sense that St. John’s was already planning on bringing in local recruiting help regardless of the hire. #sjubb

Two thoughts on Mike Anderson: 1. He knows how to win in a power conference. When you consider he's gone to 3 NCAA Tournaments in last 5 years in a rising SEC, that's telling. 2. His teams play a unique style + St. John's is going to have what it's been longing for - an identity.

Anderson is one of just 4 active Division I head coaches with 15+ years of experience and no losing seasons, along with Mark Few, Tom Izzo and Roy Williams. Impressive company. #sjubb

It's funny how things work out.

The most pivotal player in making this day happen is probably former St Ray's McD AA point guard Kareem Reid.

It was an Arkansas assistant coach names Mike Anderson who convinced Reid in 1995 to forget teaming up with Felipe Lopez and leave NYC for Little Rock.

Mahoney was all in on Tarik Turner, who while being a great guy, super alum, proud member of SJU family, was the weak point on teams that desperately needed David Cain 2.0.

Although Reid wasn't able to duplicate the success of the prior years, he became the Razobacks all time assists leader.

Mahoney was soon fired and well the rest is SJU history.

Defended Mullin because he was Mullin and was afraid things could get worse and they almost did.
Not a Lavin fan but did enough considering he was coaching at a wasteland and got us into two tourney's.
Really only coach I complained about was the worst coach in the history of sports whose only redeeming quality was his supposedly a "nice guy". And you defended Norm to the death so the old saying about glass houses thing applies here. At least Mullin supplied me with great childhood memories. You defended a guy that said hello to you once? Lent you $5 dollars? No one ever explained to me what made him such a "nice guy". My best guess is that he simpy wasn't Mike Jarvis.

Was surprised last night at the reminder that Reid never played in the NBA
