He's solid not sexy.
He's not gonna wow or win a presser. But he's well liked it seems
I'm tired of winning pressers. Just go out play and win. Love that he spent years under Nolan and has been successful since.

Let's also not just focus on Arkansas. Did great work at UAB and Missouri
Fair enough. I just hope he realizes what he has walked into. He needs to figure out who can be part of the solution ASAP. Like meeting with kids (Figgy/Mustapha etc.) TOMORROW. It would be real difficult if he starts out with a terrible first season here. We have plenty of experience with this and I think it makes it difficult to recover.
Wasn't initially excited because I foolishly thought we could do better, but it really wasn't going to get much better than Anderson at this point.

I've been a diehard fan for at least 35 years now, and if we hired Jones I think I would have been pretty much done. There would have been no need for me to be here every single day. Get this done soon so he can go about the business of making calls to his team. Heron and Figgy could both thrive in his system. Williams too, and I don't want to lose him.
I think Mike has signed...according to Wikipedia. I’ll check more now...
P.S. SI and Zags a bit earlier had Anderson as ‘on verge’ or ‘expected to hire’. FWIW.

I am shocked that we pulled this rabbit out of the hat. What a fantastic hire we just made. This guy has it all. His only negative was that he could not be better than Kentucky in the SEC at a school that benefits from the Walton family’s billions. He has coached and won at the highest level in a school and conference where football reigns supreme all year long. Now he goes to a basketball only conference where he became king of the school overnight. Best of luck coach Anderson. Surround yourself with a good staff, hit the ground running and never stop recruiting. If you do that I have no doubt you will be very successful at SJU.
Congrats to Mike Cragg , without you this would never have happened, truly a grand slam.

Anderson was fired by Arkansas on March 26 after eight seasons in Fayetteville. While there, he posted a record above .500 in each of his seasons (169-102 overall), but the Razorbacks' 18-16 2018 campaign was seen as a disappointment.

Now let's put together an AC roster that can turn us into a dangerous team......

...and recruit!
Lol.

Years ago, we said “thank you Mrs. Hewitt”. Hopefully, now we’ll be saying “ Thank you Mrs. Moser”

Should be noted. Anderson was hired by former Razorbacks AD Jeff Long. Long is one of the best in the business. In December of 2017 he went to Kansas. So this past year and a half he had a new boss. Every new boss wants to make his mark hence the firing

Decided I was out of here today. I hate what this board has become. Just a last post to say I’m very happy for my favorite college basketball team. They pulled off a miracle today given the circumstances of the past few days. Anderson probably has as many or more wins than all St. John’s coaches combined since Louie. Bye

Thanks RMN.
I agree.
I’d go so far as to say, this is a stunning hire so late in the game and following the soap opera of the past week, with the BH ‘nyet’, followed by Moser’s ‘no thanks, I’m staying home,’ to the JJ and PH ventures, capped by dissing Tim Cluess, a very good guy and a winning HC.
But Mike Anderson’s resume Is a cut-plus above that of all known candidates, except maybe Mike Brey, who was on our list for a nano second.
Great job, Mike Cragg!!!

The only thing he lacks is a New York connection. Must sign a strong staff and avoid the problems of the last four years. Players and fans will love his style of play.
If he was signed right after the Hurley turndown and avoided what seems like months of angst we all would be saying home run.

Mike Jarvis has no NY ties either. Still coached a few of our best teams and was robbed of a possible Final 4 or better. It can be done and has before.

The board was everything it needed to be. Bobby and Oliva turned this into the worst coaching search I've ever seen, and it wasn't even close.

And what's the point of leaving after we've seemingly pulled a rabbit out of a hat, and 95 percent of the board is happy?

Outside of Lou I’d say our non-NY coaches (Jarvis and lavin) have dominated our NY coaches.

Who cares if they are from NY. The local aau guys have no problem sending their kids to outsiders who coach outside ny. What matters is if they can coach and can recruit NY.

How about Rasheen and Borman and call it a freaking day
His staff will be so key. I'm sure he will want to bring someone like Melvin Watkins with him to SJU. HIs Associate HC at Arkansas. But he is going to need at least 1 not 2 local guys to help with recruiting this area.
I have hope and optimism for Mike Anderson's time as our head coach going forward. That said, I am hoping for all of our sakes that we don't revisit the darkside of the Mike Jarvis era. The Jarvis era ended with total alienation of the local basketball community, scandal and crippling sanctions. Mike Jarvis was given the keys to an incredible array of talent coming in the door and really ran with it. Unforunately the wheels came off the bus and in the end he left the program in worse shape than any other coach in our history.

Please reevaluate your decision. I was an adamant supporter for Rick Pitino during this process. Everyone on here has passion and emotions for our beloved University. I took allot of heat myself, but it is because we all care. Today we had to come together for the future of the program. I was taught you never get more than you ask for! So we asked for the best. What we ended up with is a very good coach, who will with Cragg make this an elite level program. I am most excited for new facilities finally. So with a successful coach, a very experienced AD, new facilities we are now very much on the right track. There is work to be done but we should keep LJ and Heron, and maybe pull a couple of quality kids, we will be ok. No more looking disorganized on the court, defense, and pressure. Stick around, despite the heat, there are some great people here! We are bound by bleeding SJU red!

Anderson's walking into a completely different situation than Jarvis did. Let's hope his situation ends up different from Jarvis's as well.
