Funny when a northerner goes south (Frank McGuire, Coach K, Billy Donovan, Cal, Pitino), it’s a genius, bold move.

When a southerner comes North, half the media questions the fit.

Very odd.
True. Same with recruiting. No surprise when northern kids go south (even to the sticks) but we don’t think southern kids would ever want to come north

I don’t really know much about this guy. However, I have no choice but to give the man a chance. I hope (if he is in fact hired) that someone/anyone is in his ear to move quickly. He can save some semblance of a team for next season by rounding up the cats of what little is left. If would be difficult for anyone to rebound from a losing record and a winless Big East season. Not kidding that is completely possible. I will wish him luck.

Per Rubin, Anderson paid for dinner:

St. John's docket for the coaching search today included former Arkansas coach Mike Anderson in the evening. #sjubb
Then it's a done deal. Welcome aboard coach Anderson.
Let’s not forget who announced it first.

Just a thought: Would hiring Andy Borman as an assistant turn us off with some other AAU programs due to "rivalries"? I would obviously love to have that pipeline with the Rens, a very good AAU program.

Melvin Watkins is a good recruiter and was MIke's #2 guy at Missouri and Arkansas. And my guess is Mike will try to bring him to SJU.

Look at his salary. According to this 2016-17 report he was one of the 10 highest paid assistants in the country:

https://fansided.com/2017/06/29/highest-paid-college-basketball-assistant-coaches-2016-17/
That’s way less than what we were paying Mitch Richmond and Matt.
Richmond and Matt made less than Watkins. Have no idea where you got your information from.
100% said that after you panther. Not even close. SJU does not pay $400K for assistants. They may have to now.
They were pretty much there
And wasn’t Slice in the $400-500k range?

After being a season ticket holder for more than 25 years, I believe I am done! I can't do another 8-10 years of rebuilding. Call me when we start winning again.

I think you're a day late

Get him officially hired and get him a conversation right away with Figgy need to keep that kid here!
Heron's familiar with Anderson from the SEC -- and in both years he took Arkansas to the NCAAs -- and should be able to put in a good word for him with Figgy. If nothing else, it can't hurt.

Edit: Section 3, didn't mean to step on your toes, but posts are flying onto the board faster than I can read them.
It’s fast and furious just like our tempo will be!

Can’t believe that this soap opera eventually turned positive and hopefully reaffirms Cragg’s decision to come here.

There's always one......

Being around since board since Jarvis was here, it seems this is the most unanimous our board has been in accepting the coach we hired. That includes Norm, Lavin and Mullin. So that says something.
You guys ought to google what Arkansas sport writers and fans were saying about Anderson this season and after his firing. Oh right, like UCLA fans about Lavin, they have no idea what they’re talking about. Only St. John’s fans know what they’re talking about. Know we had limited options because of the school’s ineptitude, but I’m not giddy like the rest of you guys over this hiring.
I just read Arkansas forum and the only reason they were okay with him leaving was because they thought the were going to get Chris Beard or Kelvin Sampson because of their SEC money.

Nice comments by Nolan Richardson. Good snippet about the expectations at Arkansas. He definitely was under the microscope more there because our bar is so low. Get us consistently winning. He will have a good run of it.

One what? One who is sick and tire of losing because our program is so poorly run?

The guy took Arkansas to two NCAAs in the last three years. If that's losing, then what do you call our past ten years?

We hire a coach with over 15 years of HC experience, no losing seasons 11 20 win seasons and you complain and quit. Funny you have 1100 posts and not on even did you receive a thank you, kinda let's me know something

Get SJU to that level of failure and he will have the keys to the city....

I hope this gets done without any hitches. Hopefully contract negotiations go well, and we can get ACs in here as well ASAP.

Let's be honest, if it wasn't for Arkansas firing him and we poached him instead, this would be seen as a home run hire. It's only the stigma of recently getting fired that lessens his value. His resume is great, no doubt about it. That includes his ENTIRE resume, even the past 3 years.

Great job by Cragg! Maybe Repole's rant worked and let him get the best hire available.
