Assistants don't have show causes.  I think he is working for the Gauchos right now.

Does Book have a show cause? I imagine if he wants to clean up his image, working for a guy known as clean would do wonders.

Assistants can get a show cause. Most recently Louisville and i think entire Baylor staff did a while back when a player murdered another player.

It was rumored for awhile but the timing is odd.  There is nothing unusual about replacing a staff member especially if the HC wants to go in a different direction, but why wait until June?

If it is because another opportunity suddenly arose for DeMeo at this given time then that is different.

Great way to look at this...it would be a terrific win both for both Book & St. Johns

Steve leaving is opportunity to raise recruiting bar a bit, sense Vetrone is not a lock to succeed him, but time will tell.

In a past life he was a really good recruiter. Amazing how things change if you've been gone from the D1 ranks for six or seven years. And it's not like he was just sitting on his couch, either.

Just say no.  Let him rehabilitate his image elsewhere.  With our history with the NCAA, why give them any reason to take a look at our program.  Hard pass.

Six or seven years out of the recruiting game is equivalent to dog years.  That is a long time to not be able to “legally recruit” and out of the public eye.  Lavin was out for seven years when he got the gig here but as a broadcaster he was still in the public eye and was still a “young guy”.  I would like to see someone younger, a good recruiter who could also help out on he bench and has a tremendous upside.

Anyone know which players did Demeo recruited that did / did not end up here?  Poor hits?  Big swings and misses?
Steve was primary force landing Vermont transfer. Re Moore and Cole, those Juco players were not landed by him with TJ and CMA leading that effort, having known both. I may have missed a player who Steve led on, but can’t recall any.

Hope he developed an equal liking for the rest of the staff.

I know the timing has received some criticism regarding DeMeo's ability to land on his feet, but from our perspective, do we need to have another guy in place soon for summer recruiting? And how hard will it be to lure another guy who's already knee-deep in it for his current team?

Imo, Mike, TJ and Van could cover recruiting this summer. They can always “deputize” another staff member like Huey to fill in if logistics, is an issue,  which has been done before. I don’t think Steve was in deep with any of the 22, 23 recruits, so no damage there.

Oh how I miss the " Where is Mitch and Mullin what's their excuse this summer for not going out " posts :)

Do you also miss the apologists who argued that posters had no clue whether Mullin and Mitch were out or not? /media/kunena/emoticons/grin.png

@AdamZagoria

I’m told the
@StJohnsBBall
opening won’t be filled until after 7/1. Shoes Vetrone the favorite.

I forgot Macon was at Rutgers, so they've got a connection

My initial reaction is FY turning but I remember SJU FY beginning in June in years past (Mike Dunlap)
