It is clear Mike loves Stef and Aaron, their maturity and experience should equate to healthy minutes

Mike Anderson: “We will not be a one, two-man team. It’s not gonna be just Julian and Posh…it’s gonna be guys like Stef, Aaron Wheeler, all the depth on our team.”

Re Julian;

Mike Anderson on Julian Champagnie: “The next progression, to me, is playing like a leader. He not only wants to be one of the best players in the Big East, but in the country. Now he’s really in that seat, so I want to see what he brings to the table.” #sjubb

thank you coach for honoring my fellow veterans.
Thank you for your service Section 10, and thank you to all the other Veterans on here as well. I was at the parade on 5th Ave today. What an uplifting experience,  everyone coming  together to honor all the veterans and our country. A wonderful patriotic day.

Didn't want to start a 22-23 thread just yet... but with the NLI just passing and us brining on a PG and SG- curious what our true needs are next season- (yes- i will enjoy this season- but college bball is a revolving door)- let me know if i got this right:

Eligibility Done:
Stef Smith
Tareq Coburn
Aaron Wheeler (listed as a Grad Student on the teams site- surprised since he only played 3 yrs at Purdue, same as Mathis)

Pro:
Julian

Eligible for Grad Transfer (?):
Mathis

Potential 22-23 Lineup:
Posh (Jr)
Wusu (Jr)
Storr (Fr)
Stanley (So)
Soriano (Sr)
Nywie (Sr)
Pinzon (So)
Drissa (RS Fr)
King (Fr)

Also- if someone can clarify - Do only the seniors from 20-21 get an extra year to play? or does anyone on an active roster last season now have essentially 5 yrs eligibility?

Lot of questions- but has me thinking the past couple days.

My understanding of the rule is that anyone who was on an active roster last year is entitled to another year of eligibility. However, if a player has used up his initial four year period of eligibility, the school is not obligated to grant him a "super senior" year. That is at the discretion of the coach and school. They can selectively invite (or not invite) a player to get that extra year at their school.

This will be a huge issue in college football next season. This year, schools were entitled to have their usual quota of 85 scholarship players plus whatever "super seniors" that they wanted to keep. As of now, next year's quota is scheduled to be a "hard cap" of 85 players including "super seniors". Unless that rule is changed, coaches are going to have major roster issues and will have to make some difficult decisions. Many players will be told that they will have to enter the transfer portal and may well be left without a scholarship next year.

Wheeler has another year left if he chooses to play, would be his 6th year of school but his 5th as a player. Rule used to be you get 5 years to play 4 but with last years exception he gets the 6th.

Wheeler said he's using both years when he signed here. Smart move -- first year to possibly go far as a team, second year to maybe get a piece of Julian's lost ppg and get something going overseas.

Aaron will be 24 years old when next season starts. If he's looking for a pro career somewhere, he had better start working on it sooner then later. Maybe he's a better fit in CMA's system then in Painter's system, I don't really know. But frankly, I don't see much improvement in his game and stats at his age, but I guess ya never know.

Watching the PC game last night, they were saying Noah Horchler is also 24 years old. His case is a little different in that he had to sit a year when he transferred to PC after his sophomore year. I think with a lot of these kids who are talented enough to be good rotation players with solid division 1 teams but clearly not NBA talented, they enjoy the NCAA experience enough to stay as long as they can, knowing oversea opportunities will be there at 25 if they are there at 23 or 24. Can't blame them, especially if financial need is not an overriding factor.

I don't blame them either way NC. It's a personal choice. However if it's my kid, and he's looking to play overseas, and he's 24 years old with 5 years of college under his belt, I tell him to seize the opportunity while it presents itself. Let's face it, the window of opportunity is very small for pro athletes.  Whether it's the NBA or overseas. And at 24 years old, what's the real benefit of sticking around another year unless he's going for an advanced degree? Like Coburn is doing.
