Mike Anderson - Recruiting, Coaching, Etc.

Perhaps Demeo wants to get back to being a HC at the JC level?

Shoes Vetrone, my recall, has a good rep. Connected here and in recruiting with HC experience.

Based on the drills I've seen, I think DeMeo is an excellent coach. I wonder if he's bitter that Van got the promotion, or if not hitting on his recruiting targets made Coach Anderson rethink the staff makeup.

As someone pointed out Steve just never seemed to fit in here.
Vetrone is a very solid choice.  Well respected in the area.

Let's go!

Sorry I think Vetrone would be an bad hire for a multitude of reasons. He's not even an asst coach with Rutgers...

He's a "local guy" but that doesn't make him the right fit.

That being said...just cause his name was the first mentioned doesn't mean it's going to happen.

Goodman saying possible replacement is Vetrone from Rutgers....

Vetrone would be an excellent choice. He is highly regarded  and has lots of recruiting ties in the NY metro area.

I could see Shoes being very interested in coming to St John's as an assistant coach. He was an assistant coach at Rutgers but when Pikiell became the head coach, Vetrone got bumped into the Director of Player Development position. He was primarily kept on staff because of his recruiting contacts.

This would be a win-win. A very good move for St John's and an opportunity for Vetrone to become an assistant coach once again. I hope to see this happen.

I would prefer younger coach who is hungry to build career than coach at end of career. CMA hired older assistant at Arkansas Melvin Watkins that bought nothing to the program.

Does Book have a show cause? I imagine if he wants to clean up his image, working for a guy known as clean would do wonders.

I don’t mind Demeo moving on.  His contribution was mainly in the juco recruiting space and I think we had fair results there.  We also didn’t need his X’s and O’s.  Mile Anderson has his system and TJ is there as well for that.  Let’s add another recruiter.

Vetrone is actually very solid move and would be good for recruiting.  Wouldn’t mind adding a guy like Rasheen Davis who’s a bit out of his region at Umass..   Van Macon has thrived being here and is his best self in his recruiting territory.  Lots of ways to improve here.

I’m fine with this he’s very connected locally are we gonna go less juco ?
I think Cleveland is more of a juco guy than a high school one, so we might still kick the tires on a lot of kids if he gets out on the recruiting trail. I'm not sure how much he's actually done that, and how much of that is COVID related. He seemed like he was out a lot when first hired.

Was actually thinking the same name, Rasheen Davis.  Davis' last stop was Bobby Hurley and Arizona St not UMASS.  He was let go last year though and as far as I know is not currently working in college.

Assistants don't have show causes.  I think he is working for the Gauchos right now.
