MICHIGAN (@MSG), Mon., Nov. 13, 6:30p, FS-1

Alleyne is the only proven contributor to a winning high major team on the roster. He is the only one who doesn’t have to prove a thing. He’s averaged double digits for a top 25 team that won the ACC. He shot 40.8% from 3 in the ACC. He’s started 3 seasons at Va Tech before UConn.

Who else can claim that? Who else started for an ACC champion or hit a three to send an NCAA tournament game to OT?

Alleyne also has a trash handle and is completely reliant on others to set him up. I’ve said that from day 1. The best play we will have every game will be a Nahiem Alleyne inside-out three point shot. Look over these stats and tell me who is capable for starting 3 years for an ACC team like he did.

I’m aware of his skill set and stats that has nothing to do with what I wrote. He’s isn’t and won’t be one of the top 2 or 3 guys on this team. He will pretty much be a shooter off the bench just like he was for UConn. You keep bringing up his VT numbers and not his UConn ones. But with Jenkins you insist on including his numbers at Pacific not just Iona. So far Jenkins looks like he can shoot so you were wrong about that too. Now that’s funny my guy.

There is going to be guys that you just can’t press because they are too quick that’s a matchup problem not a talent problem. They could of communicated better on D to contain him but it still looks like the defense is a step slow with the rotations, that should improve.

It’s obvious that there is little depth behind Soriano I already acknowledged that but Joel handled both of their bigs just fine. I kept hearing about Michigans size up front the whole game but they weren’t the ones giving us problems it was the their two guards. McDaniel maybe but Burnett isn’t a way more talented player than what SJU has even without Luis, they just both went off in the same game which is what won them the game. Did Burnett even miss a shot in the first half? He hasn’t shown that type of ability up to this point.
i was really surprised we kept pressing. they were beating the press so easily. constantly catching us out of position.

Pitino won a national championship with a PG that shot 28% that season and worse the two seasons prior (who turned the ball over more than Posh too) . Posh shot 30% as a freshman and is shooting 40% through 3 games this year (obviously that will fall some). He'll be north of 30% this year with better coaching. There is absolutely nothing on the court that kept Posh from starting at PG for this team. Jenkins is an A-10 caliber combo guard. Posh is a Big East PG.

Posh didn't do what he had to do off the court...ok. It's exhausting to bring up former players...ok. But there is no comparison on the court between Jenkins and Posh. Zero.
Posh > Jenkins and it’s not even close

I felt the same way but maybe Rick looks at it as a situation we’re if they don’t get to do against real opponents they won’t get better at it idk.

Everyone just relax. This is only the 2nd real game and the first against a major competitor. Last year we had no right to even be on the same floor as michigan, this year we do. Also know that a few of our players are literally just coming back from injury. We will be fine. It takes time for a team to jell. Plus a loss to michigan wont hurt us in the long run either.
Also realize Pitino isnt GOD. Also realize that Uconn just lost to a team who nobody remembers there name over the weekend. This team will be well coached fun to watch. Some poster said they wanted posh over Dingle? Seriously? Dingle can score the only thing posh had is his heart and defense.
But as knight said no change after halftime (maybe rick gave them the give me good 3 minutes speech). I for one and sitting back and enjoying every win and yes every loss. Last year we lost to well everyone and we didnt play as a coached team. Enjoy it everyone. Rome wasnt built in a day and pitino literally assembled this team in a month!
We had no right to be on the same floor as Michigan last night the way we played.

The sky isn't falling, but the ceiling was definitely lowered a bit IMO. My hope was that this would be the year we ended the NCAA tournament win drought. I don't see this group doing that as it stands. The tournament is still in play, but the margin for error in the OOC schedule is really small now. The team needs to go at least 2-2 between the Charleston tournament and the game @ WV or it becomes an uphill climb.
I see this team improving dramatically and gelling as the season goes on but as bad as we looked last night it might happen too late for an NCAA bid. We will be in our usual position of hoping to win the BET championship to get a bid.

How do you measure who the top 2-3 players are? I said Alleyne would be a starter. I predicted Dingle would be our leading scorer and that Luis, Jenkins, Soriano, and Ledlum would compete for #2 scorer.

I never said Jenkins couldn’t shoot. I said I am not sold on him as a shooter at this level yet because he shot 24% over two years at Pacific before dropping down significantly in level to Iona and shooting 36% for a single year.

Stef Smith shot almost 40% for his career at Vermont and shot 29% here with the step up in competition.

Alleyne started for 3 years for a successful high major. He averaged almost 30 mpg and he shot 39% from 3 on 4.5 attempts per game over those three years. How much more established as a shooter can he be? He’s proven that he can hit at a very high rate year after year if he’s set up by a PG. Hes also proven year after year that any shot he takes inside the arch is trash.

He’s an objectively good deep shooter that plays very sound defense and has a bizarrely bad handle for a 6’4 player.

A set three from Nahiem Alleyne will be the best shot we have as a team all year. I stand by that now and I will in March.

What player on this roster could have played 18 mpg and made 8 starts for the national champs last year? UConn had the #14 and #36 picks in the NBA draft at his position and no traditional PG to set him up. He also played over former top 70 recruit Hassan Diarra all year.

This is ridiculous and not true. We were down 2 with 2.5 minutes to go in the first half before Pitino inexplicably pulled some starters and let them get some momentum going into the half. The second half was as bad as it gets, no question. But its not like it was a blowout from the opening tip. Breathe into a paper bag man.

Soriano is the best player on this team. When Luis comes back I’ll be able to tell you who 2 and 3 are. Alleyne will not be one I’d bet money on that.

It’s a 40 minute game not a 17 minute game. Last night was a complete and utter disaster. But, as I said in a previous post, I think this team will improve dramatically and gel as the season goes on. Let’s just hope it doesn’t happen too late where we find ourselves hoping for a BET championship in order to get an NCAA bid.

How do you measure that?😂 If you’re asking me if Alleyne will be one of the top 3 scorers, the answer is most likely not. If you’re asking if he’ll be one of the top 3 defenders the answer is an easy yes. Is he a top 3 shooter? Easy yes. Does he have a top 5 handle? Easy no.

It doesn’t matter if Alleyne shot 90% if they aren’t going to manufacture open looks for him. That is his lone weakness. He is completely reliant on others on offense.

Nobody taking Dingle’s injury into consideration. Granted, I haven’t watched pretty much any of his previous years, but he has not looked right in either of these games. Pitino said just two weeks ago he wasn’t sure when he was coming back, so I’ll give him more than 2 games before I write a guy off who scored, what, 24 a game last year.

I think some posters are being a little too hard on Ledlum. The kid is strong as a bull, gives 110%, and can shoot the three. He had a rough game last night trying to battle a beefy Big10 front line with very little help.

Cut the kid some slack, he's a real big piece of this year's team. In fact, if he goes down for any serious length of time, we are in trouble.

He looks fine to me. My problem is his usage and lack of touches. We need to get Daniss off the ball more. I envisioned a split more similar to Jenkins and Clayton last year. That is still my hope for the remainder of the season.

I hope it’s injury he’s been bad on D and his offense is necessary so it will be a weakness if it doesn’t get better. Offensively besides some missed open 3s he’s been fine considering he was not practicing.

He had very little help because him and Jenkins played hero ball the entire game. That’s what most of us are frustrated with. They denied everyone else the opportunity to get their shots in the rhythm of the game.

He can be a weapon if he picks his spots and shows patience. Drive when it’s there. Shoot only when you are wide open. Post up and pass out to a shooter. Attack the offensive glass in every shot.

I don't think he's ever going to give an average performance. He'll be either great, or terrible, most nights.

When the coach says he has no idea when he’s coming back and then he’s playing a few days later that’s either some Jedi mind trick stuff from the coach or the guy is playing through an injury. It’s probably a combo of the 2 but I’ve seen people already saying he’s out of his league at a high major (not you), and I’m pointing out there’s no way this guy is 100%.

Agree that he was out of control several times on the offensive end. Just think he is going to be an integral ingredient to any success moving foward.
