An entire season remains, Gene. Are you aware of the year Villanova beat UNC (on Kris Jenkins' last second shot) to win the National Championship? Remember when Villanova annihilated Oklahoma in the Final Four two days prior? Guess what? In early December of that same season, Oklahoma blasted Villanova by 23 points.

I'm not saying our season is gonna go the way Villanova or Oklahoma from that year. I'm saying things can happen early in the year that may be baffling (heck, sometimes those sort of games can occur later in the year as well).

There's plenty of time to worry, but my opinion is you may wanna relax.
Great post Dinkins

Understood Dink, the Giants lost to the Patriots during the regular season the year they beat them in the Super Bowl and ruined their perfect season.

Well, you like to speak in hyperbole I assume, no one jacked up 6 or 7 jumpers in a row and no, I don’t have any idea if he would make better decisions but I am not that impressed SO FAR with Dingle but I am more than willing to wait for a better sample size. I would respectfully suggest you do the same with players who you’ve chosen to define their faults 2 games into the season. Like I said, we just disagree, no big deal.
I’m not defining anyone. I think Ledlum and Jenkins can be very effective players for us. Ledlum could be an absolute weapon if used correctly. Being covered by opposing PF’s means he will get multiple open looks and multiple opportunities to drive and draw fouls.

It’s frustrating at this juncture to watch these kids sort out their roles and understand their weaknesses at this level.

Just mentioned that season and that beating Nova took in a Holiday tourney at hands of Oklahoma as an example of how seaosn can change. The Artest team lost 2 of 1st 5 games (albeit close losses to Stanford and Purdue) and then threw beatdowns on teams in NCAA b4 losing gut wrenching game to OSU.

Marillac and Logen:

Just watched Pitino's press conference after the UMich game. If you haven't seen it, definitely worth taking a look. Refreshing candor about the team's performance. No BS.

Artest's freshman season (Lopez, Hamilton, and Turner's senior season) started out crappy IMO. They were handled by an average Georgia Tech team in the Puerto Rico Shootout, looked terrible in three of their first four Big East games in losses to Syracuse, West Virginia, and Seton Hall (we played well in a road win versus Notre Dame), struggled to beat a terrible DePaul team at MSG in a game that went into 2 OTs, walloped by 23 versus Niagara in the first round of the ECAC Holiday Festival, and played uninspired in a road loss to a bad Louisville team.

I recalled telling a good friend after we watched the Louisville game that this team was cooked and they might struggle to make the NIT. 9-6 (1-3 in the Big East), and the team had only played two good games in wins versus Illinois and Notre Dame. They weren't exactly emitting good vibes. Then four days later, the Johnnies beat Georgetown on the road to start a heckuva run where we won 12 of the next 13 games and advanced to Friday night in the Big East Tournament. 22-10 overall and 13-5 in conference play.

Although that team bottomed out in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament, they did turn around what looked to be a crappy season and earned an at-large bid as a 7th seed.

I'm exuding patience as I've done with every coach for this program. I'm definitely gonna give Pitino the benefit of the doubt as he's earned it. A bunch of ball left to be played.

Refreshing? I personally wouldnt go there exactly. I just actually listed to Dave's podcast with Frankingeneral and Zach and the clips were even worse than I thought seeing them right after the game. I know its all part of the 'schtick' but after 2 games its a bit much for my liking.

He looked like he can drive on anyone he'll face, but frequently at the end of the drive he looked like me instead of a highly ranked high schooler and Ivy League star.

Let's hope that was just nerves or doing too much because he sensed other guys were not pulling weight.

Otherwise, it'll be two more games tops until posters start comparing him to those other three recent-ish guys who all played alike. They were frequently so painful that I seem to have mentally blocked out 66 percent of them and can only remember Durand Johnson.

If Ledlum drives to the hoop and draws in the center. He could make a pass to a player flashing to the hoop for an east basket.
The team needs to move the ball and play to their strengths. They will figure it out.

BECAUSE, all he got from CRP were rave reviews, after all the team
workouts.
CRP said that he was our best player out there ( maybe excluding Soriano)

The pressure of Big East competition still awaits him, but high praise
from CRP makes him, not a sure thing, but a good bet.
Pitino also said that Ejiafor might start over Soriano

All this discussion about our front court not having depth, are we addressing this issue next year through the portal? We're not going to have a legit (ready to play) center nor a proven PF scorer. Although Ejiafor will be the default 4/5, he's going to need to improve tremendously to be a decent starter at either position.

I hear you nj fan, one of the things that surprised me about how we got beat is that Pitino and staff had a week to prepare for this game. Michigan even played Friday night. It’s just surprising how bad we got beat and how we didn’t have a plan for the speed of their guards with week to prepare.
Agree , MG. I thought whoever scouted Michigan must have been day dreaming to not see what they were on the Court in their first 2 games .

Also too, Phil Martelli , filling in for Howard is no 2 nd tier Coach .,He knows exactly what he’s doing and frankly, had all the answers on Monday night . He knew he could exploit our lack of team speed and defensive liabilities . And , he did .

Of all the things to worry about, this is not it. Size will be addressed in portal.

I think the scary thing was how the team quit right before the half. Terrible look and going to need to string together 3-4 games of playing hard before I am going to just get the Same old ST John’s thing out of my head.
