It wouldn’t be a close SJU game without Mean Gene giving up on the team midway through and then coming back to celebrate like nothing ever happened LOL
That’s the secret strategy Jack, works like charm every time!! 7 - 0 Baby!!!!
At least you stay around and praise the team for coming back unlike some posters.
I did not see or hear the game, I glanced once on my iPhone and we were down about 14, my heart sunk...( why do I take “my teams” so much to heart?)

Thanks St. Johnnie75, others of rational mind, and Mr. P for sharing Zach’s observation:
“7-0 is 7-0”.
Wow some of the disparaging critiques here sound as if we are 0-7.
We are not perfect.
We will accumulate Ls.
We will always lose out on some recruits.
Chris Mullin is Chris Mullin.
Are we better off than the past years?
I think yes.
Are we headed in the right direction.
I think so.
Can we just enjoy this team and this season?

All the best for a great, healthy December and holiday season for all
My fellow posters and families.
Blessings

I was on a tour bus, so could watching or listen to the game, I watched some of the 1st half on the scoreboard (thank god for androids.), and seen that we were up 7 and felt good. I look again and we're down 16.
My heart sunk as well.
We're freaking diehard maniacs, and we're just so damn hungry for a winner, it's been to long.
We had some really good years since the arrest years, Lavins first and last years.
We still won a NCAA game since the 2000 season. I'm a real passionate and real intense fan, and say stupid shit because of it.
Great freaking effort today battling back from 16 down, ponds won't let us lose, the kid will 'will' us to win.

Despite the win definite flaws still there, However somehow it adds up to 7 and 0 Still it's hard to improve against cupcakes. Seton Hal,l first Big East game, will be the test. Cannot start Big East like last year.

You haven't been a fan of a program that has struggled in recent decades though. You've been a fan for the Lavin years and Mullin years. The Lavin years weren't even that bad. 4 post season appearances in 5 years. Ok, so you've had to deal with a few years during the rebuilding of a program under Mullin. Wahhhh

I’ve been here for this team since 1979 and I will always be here StJohnnie75. The frustrate the hell out of me though. We need Figgy and Heron to shoot better than they did today. We can afford too many games from those two like this. Ponds can’t be expected to put this team on his back every game.,Otherwise, it’s no different than last season. It was quite obvious today also that the sooner we get Keita back the better. I know Roberts is raw but he’s active on D and block some shots and rebound. The staff has to develop this kid even if they have to push him a little bit. We are going to need him st some point even after Keita comes back.

Anyone complaining still should be banned until the end of the season. ;)

We have the most clutch player in college basketball. Unbelievable. Going to enjoy this season to the fullest despite how stressful all these games are.
What a weird game to go to at a venue like that. There were probably only about 750-1000 in the crowd but everyone there was supporting SJU except for about a group of 20. Shoutout to those sitting in 107, ha. Not a pretty game, but Shamorie did his thing and carried them to a W along with SJU putting the clamps down on D and hitting the boards in the stretch run.
I was in 107 but only saw a handful of SJU fans. Everyone gathered at the outside bar overlooking the cruise ships after the game. I met Tarik Turner and Ty Grant, both really nice guys. Also the director of alumni relations Mark Andrews, who introduced me to Tarik and Ty. Watching Ponds live for the first time was a special experience. Almost lost my mind watching the missed foul shots and the silly foul near the end. A really nice comeback win.

I stayed around to see Texas Tech to watch Owens. He played a great last 6 or 8 minutes. I'm not one of those fans that turns on a player because he transfers. Tariq played hard for us for 2 seasons, and I'm sure has the bruises to show for it.

Great win. Frustrating to watch for several reasons, but winning teams find a way to win while playing bad.

Hope we can get Heron back on track.

Alvarado’s yank of Ponds’s arm getting tech & sitting for a while was one of those momentum breakers. Not pretty, but take the win & sweep the rest of the “gimmes” before BE play.
Agreed, that was the turning point. Great job by the staff to give Shamorie the 'Hero' ball signal :eek:hmy:
I'd like to see us have an already comfortable lead -- like good teams tend to get -- and then give Ponds the hero ball signal so as to completely squash opponents with 10 minutes to spare.

Another gutty win by the Cardiac Kids
I just love watching this group of kids play
They give it their all and play their hearts out
Good for them and for the coaching staff
Keep up the great work, guys!!!
WE ARE.................. ST JOHN'S!!!

Great environment at the game today. It was 98-99% St. John's fans.

Team didn't have it today but gutted it out. Mullin outcoached the sh*t out of Pastner. This game was won on the offensive glass. Great second half effort on D too.
I forgot Pastner is the coach there. It doesn't take much to out coach him. The kid is Lavin Jr.
He's been around long enough that you'd think he'd absorb something.

The negativity is odd to me. Yeah, we handled the zone horribly and fell behind by double digits again, but the positives far outweigh those negatives.

We didn't have it today and still found a way to win with grit. 10 offensive boards and that # doesn't do the effort on that end justice...the hustle and position forced multiple fouls from GT.

Simon was fantastic. Heron was a manchild second half.

That's how you win in March. I'm very pleased and I'm extremely proud to be a fan and alumnus today.

Any comments on Mullin T today...I think that it showed both his frustration and passion. Overall probably help us with calls for the rest of game! Mullin slipped and those guys picked him up. Way to go SJU!

Not trying to make mullin out to saint...but its intriguing to me to see his struggles along with the teams....everyone has something to work on...even us fans....go SJU!

This game was a perfect example of why one should wait until the final buzzer to unleash a torrent of anger and nuttiness.

It got us calls from a horrible crew. I'd say it was a net +. We got nothing from them the first half and an extremely friendly whistle in the second half. It may have been a calculated move on Mullin's part with >90% of the crowd for St. John's.

Especially for a team that has done this four out of seven games.

What a great day for watching college hoops!  The Marquette, Villanova, Providence and St. John's games were all wins for the Big East.  The St. John's game was the most gut wrenching one of the day.
Set in the beautiful locale of Biscayne Bay in the spacious American Airlines Arena, the game was billed as the first game of the day in the Air Force Reserve Hoops Hall whatever.  Given that there were around 500 fans there it seems that the entire Air Force reserve was deployed in Afghanistan.  Jesus, Mary and Joseph!!!  Couldn't the organizers comp a couple of thousand tickets to the south Florida Retired Veterans Association?
As I am writing this while watching Duke take Stetson to the woodshed I can't help but think of our great basketball story regarding the perseverance of Marvin Clark.  His greatest challenge will come in February when he will be tasked with possibly guarding Zion Williamson, a frosh phenom.  After today's disappearing act against Georgia Tech I worry about his ability to stay in the game beyond the 10 minute mark of the first half.
For the second game in a row marvelous Marv committed freshmen fouls and contributed 3 foul shots before fouling out in 24 minutes of play.  Georgia Tech had two 6'9 bigs that gave him a country boy whooping.  Chris Mullin was forced to go to his bench that constituted Trimble, 6'3, replacing Clark.  Needless to say, Trimble quickly collected 4 fouls himself before Mullin realized that the only way to play Tech was to go small.  Enter Mikey Dixon who played his arse off but Jose Alvarado he is not.  Small really meant Shamorie time and once again Slick made Mullin look like a coaching genius.  While I haven't read most of the game time posts here I am sure when we were behind by 10, 12 and then 16 points there were those who were poo pooing Shamorie's effort.  Not 72!  Not for one NY minute.  Three years ago I told a former mod here in a PM that a friend who is in charge of the PSAL told me we were getting a poor man's version of Isiah Thomas.  Slick hasn't disappointed.
That we won this game without any big man, a horrible game by Marvin Clark and another mediocre showing by Mustapha shows how resilient these players can be.  Hopefully players like Clark, Roberts and Keita are game ready by the time we play Duke.  If we beat Duke again I say offer Mullin a contract extension.  If we lose by 25, we can be assured Mike Zaun will offer Mully a free Uber ride to the airport.

BTW, rat face coach K keeping Reddish and Zion in the game while up 60! What a dick!
... Mullin really loves St Johns this cant be said for some of our posters. ...
Think you might want to reconsider that statement. Regardless of any bitching or moaning -- something we're all guilty of at times -- I can't think of a single poster on here who doesn't love SJU basketball and who and lives and dies with the team.

one observation from the broadcast, it seemed to me the announcers were working for the ACC/ GTech, there commentary was so one sided i found it really obnoxious! Anyone else feel that way?
