Mets

First time in 50 hours where I didn't feel like puking.

Nice job by fox by keeping the camera on moustakas during his expletive-laden rant. He made it easy to read his lips. And then showing a replay - definite quality!

Was at the game. What a great game. But didn't have benefit of TV to see what happened with Moustakas. Can you fill me in? What a clutch game from Syndegard adjusting when it looked like all was lost, to Wright and Grady's comeback HR's, to Uribe's RBI single. Just huge games all around. And nice job by the pen to keep them quiet.

wow cheapest tix for tomorrow on stub hub up to $700 not including their crazy fees again and for tonights game they didn't drop my friends said. They were over 1k for cheapest seats by 6pm

Ughhh.

Ughhh.

Got tickets for game 5 last night at 11:27 (didn't want to jinx anything). Seats I got are already $200 more per ticket. Insane.

if we win tonight tomorrow is going to be out of control ( electricity wise ) with the Dark Night pitching. I've been to both his citifield playoff game wins. If we win tonight I'm just going to have to close my eyes and hit submit on the stub hub screen I think whenever tonights game ends assuming I don't go tonight too

I liked Colon in at the end. We had no other viable option. I didn't mind yanking Niese. He was pitching well, but I wasn't confident he'd continue. All in all we were one Familia slam the door away from a win. Bats went to sleep after we scored the 4th run.

I look at things much differently, there are no moral victories in the World Series; don't care how close we came, at this level there is only winning and losing and we lost. We played pretty poorly IMO and we paid for it. KC did not play their A game either but won, advantage KC.

That wasn't the point. After losses, fans are typically critical of every move that didn't work and then suggest an alternative move. I have no confidence Niese would be effective for more than a couple of innings, and even then you cross your fingers. Colon throws strikes, and knows how to move the ball around, and mix in junk with his fastball. My point was that as poorly as we played, we were in a great position to win in the 9th with Familia on the mound. Players have to execute, and ours didn't.

It was his reaction to Thor's first pitch, which was Maglie-esque. The rant was truly a fall classic! Since this is.a family site, let me "G" down the more colorful language;
Alright (female dog), all right, (for unlawful carnal knowledge) you!
(For unlawful carnal knowledge) you, (cat)!
Ok, (female parental unit - for unlawful carnal knowledge)er!

Thanks to the magic of the interwebs, here is a taste:

Huge win last night. A 3-0 hole is essentially insurmountable, and dominating and taming the Royals bats was incredibly important for the psyche of Mets pitchers. I was in Missouri for 3 days (imagine being in a sports bar with the only Mets jersey on), and the Missouri papers were crowing about how the Royals only fanned 4 times in two games vs. the Mets hard throwers. Last night was a different story.

The Royals anger over the Noah first pitch illustrates what babies modern players are. Drysdale or Gibson would have buzzed chins with a second or third pitch also if they wanted to make a point, and the batter wouldn't have complained but understood to not hang over the plate. Drysdale was particularly nasty, and batters complained that he was a head hunter. Noah was simply conveniently wild, and his pitch was nowhere as close as Gibson chin music may have been. Once asked if he would throw at his own mother, Gibson replied, "If she was crowding the plate I would". Noah's response was a throwback "I own the mound. Let them meet me at 60 feet 6 inches (and let their bats do the talking." Gotta love this kid, LOVE him, everything about him.

It's a shame that most internet pansies don't understand the Gibson-approach to pitching. Love what Thor did. Had to. And yeah, wasn't even a foot near his head. Smart, purpose pitch...if he truly head hunted, I'd say it was wrong, but he is being old school. I hope this becomes the psychological turning point of this series...the pressure is on the Royals. Losing the world series this year...hope the "choke" vibe starts to settle in.

BTW, Gibson also had a great line about that famous Babe Ruth home run that he supposedly called..."if he called a homer before the pitch with me on the mound, ball goes in one ear and out the other." Something like that. Thor, at his size and with the Texan mentality, could be the Nolan Ryan of this era? :)

Btw, this series is really following the Strat-o-matic simulation on so many levels...they predicted Wright with a 3 run homer in game 3 I believe...4RBI, even better. The crowd tonight may be an all time classic with it being Halloween and Mets fans having near 30 years of frustration that's being let out in a positive way. Place seemed electric last night on the telly.

Peace y'all.

Everyone was around us was going nuts and high fiving each other when Thor knocked him on his ass. Was awesome

Best thing... those American League dopes had a chance to dink him and didn't. Instead Thor pops a single leading to Granderson's 2 run homer.

Not a good time to have a high school inning. Bad pitching by Clippard, worse managing by Collins, and after so much good, the bad and the ugly from Murphy.

Murphy pulls a Buckner and Clippard is freaking horrible.

I'm sick to my stomach. We wouldn't have gotten this far without Murphy but why the F don't you keep reed in. Clippard f'ing ruined us

. You really have to bring Familia in after the walk to Zobrist, lose with your best and give him some margin for error. Not sure what Collins was thinking. Fact is though the Mets have not hit outside of last night and Conforto tonight. At least the Mets are going to set a WS record for striking out on pitches in the dirt.

Obviously a very big part of the Mets success this year has been driven by the amazing streak by Cespedes when he first came over and the even more amazing Murphy streak through the 1st two rounds of the playoffs but both showed the downside to their games tonight big time. Lost in all this was the gift base Cespedes gave the Royals for their first run, you can't attack the ball like that if you are not willing to dive. Mix in Collins' (to me) inexplicable gamble sticking with Clippard after the walk to Zobrist and this hurts worse than the first game.

Zobrist is so hot, I think that Collins was okay with the walk, and Clip was up 0-2 in the count on Cain. Tough at bat to lose. I agree though, if you're going Familia in the 8th for five outs, may as well do it with one runner on, not two. Collins messed that one up, but Yost has been matching him for odd decisions. And sorry, but Murph gets a single out on that play, and this series may actually be tied right now...but that was some t-ball defense (high schoolers would be more competent) in the 8th.

Murphy and Cespedes are reminding us all why neither will be back next year. Yep, both helped get us here, but I don't think Sandy is going to keep such weak defense on his team. Cepsedes is playing soccer in the outfield this series, and Murph is Murph in the field. Tough enough not having Tejada at short. Royals are kind of well put together against a team like ours. Neutralize the starters enough with the contact hitting, expose the defense, push on the bases, etc. And Wade Davis has some nasty stuff with solid relievers in front of him.

Let's just try to get game 5. If nothing else, would love to see Thor in KC for a game 7 just to see how wild that scene would be. :)

I don't think this series is over. But it will be very difficult to win three in a row. If the bats can't jump on KC's starters...

I'm going with the flow on this one. In 06, they didn't have the starting pitching to realistically win it all, and now...

our expectations rose to ridiculous heights in a matter of two months. We have the best starting pitching in all of MLB (and only in its infancy), but got work to do in being the best team.

. Great post, you are right on the money. Nitpicking, I am old school and while I agree about Zobrist being hot, you just can't walk anyone in that situation, never mind 2 guys. Make them earn it, trust your defense, and at worst hope for a line drive at someone. Clippard just has no out pitch against guys that hang that tough at the plate. Finally, why get Familia up to start the inning when you don't bring him in until he has no margin for error? Lose with your best. I agree about Murphy and Cespedes, Murphy we all know the downside and over the course of a few months you can see why Cespedes has moved as much as he has. Also agree this is not over, going to be ridiculously tough but we need 3 lights out pitched games and the bats to come alive. Not impossible.

Is everybody sure that the Mets are not better off with Wright a beloved figure from the history of the team gone, with Murphy now at his best position, third, and Cespedes in left?
