Mets

Conforto was promoted to double a.

Hitting .429 through first eight games with a homer, four doubles, a triple, eight RBIs, and an absurd .543 OBP.

It's about damn time he got the call up. He should have started the year there or, at the very least, been called up after his torrid start in high-A.

I think they just waited for the warmer weather. Also, he went thru a slump and the organization wanted to see how he handled it (and he dug his way out of it, which was a very good sign).

He will be fast tracked. Especially since he has a tool the big club desperately needs: hitting. He will be a Met sometime next year, at least I hope. I wouldn't want the expensive but mediocre numbers from Granderson and Cuddyer impede the move. I would have those two platoon in one OF spot.

It is frustrating to see how good this team could be with even an average offense. With that starting pitching (and Matz coming soon) they would be very dangerous in a short series. Even a pessimist like myself could see that.

im glad to see the club is staying afloat and could be buyers in June/July. There are a few teams with that big-bat reputation who have had miserable seasons. Brewers, White Sox, Rockies, Mariners, A's and Marlins all have big bats who they should be willing to deal. For once can we make a big splash? Trade Gee, Niese separately. Pair them each with Plawecki and another prospect and pickup 2 big bats. Then bring Matz up to the big show this season

Not going to get a difference maker for Gee and Niese.

Sandy needs to make a big boy trade.

And I just don't see that happening with Alderson and Co.

Has anyone seen Conforto hit? Such a sweet swing. Can't wait for him to arrive.

Cecchini/Dom/Buccera/Roserio all having nice starts. Don't know much about the kid they drafted last night.

The Mets would be scary in the playoffs. In a 6-7 game series, they could throw Harvey twice an and possibly deGrom as well. deGrom is nearly unbeatable at home and very good away from home in warm weather.

There is zero market for Niese. His shoulder is not getting any healthier. He wouldn't even get picked up if he were released with the money owed to him. But the Mets must do that to get Matz up (and they are just waiting for super 2 status), since he has a sub 2.00 era in a hitters haven like Las Vegas.

Gee gets you a fringe proscpect at best. I don't know what is available, and I don't know what the Mets have to offer (other than the young pitching) to make it happen. It will be very tough to make a deal, so Alderson must get creative.

Visions of a staff that includes Harvey, DeGrom, Syndergaard, Matz, and Wheeler (after his return from TJ surgery around July) makes my heart flutter.

But the black hole of a lineup outside of Duda, D'Arnaud, and Herrera makes my eyes bleed. Conforto will be a rookie (unfair to expect too much), who knows about Wright (that injury is very serious), and Murphy (may be moved or not resigned).

Ok, I am a pessimist again.

Kranmars you are not a pessimist when expressing concerns over the lineup, just a realist. Changes need to be made to get more firepower in the lineup. As mentioned by someone I don't really trust the people at the head of this organization to make good moves. So we will have to hope they surprise us. Also, I'm very concerned about D Wright as well, if he ever does come back I wonder if he will ever produce well again in the league.

For now I hope we keep hanging in and can stay in the race deep into September.

Yes, those "meaningful games in September," as promised by our astute owners.

At this point, if Wright comes back next year as a sIngles hitter, I will take it as a best case. His power has decreased anyway (quite possibly due to the degeneration of the back) and now it may just hasten the loos of power.

If that's the case, then Flores probably moves to third, or they could take a flyer on Matt Dominguez, a 3B prospect just released by Houston. Former big prospect has been awful last two years. But is only 25 and maybe something clicks late.

Other than that, I have nothing but pessimism (or realism).

Someone has to go.

No hit tonight. One of the most pathetic displays of hitting that I have ever seen.

I think Heston got a very generous strike zone in that 9th inning. Not on the Granderson strikeout, but strike 3 on the other two batters looked dicey at best.

But, you still will probably have us (meaning the Yankees) to thank, for keeping you in first place, assuming we will ever get this final out.

He got at least two strikeouts on clear balls during the game. As the parent of a long time little leaguer, we always tell the kids to go down swinging.
