Mets

I swear I am on the phone with a friend right now and I'm telling him " watch Travis hit one out. " lol

remember all the way back to July when the Mets were lucky to get five singles in a game. Seems like years ago. This run better end with a WS appearance.

By the way maybe Verrett should just replace Harvey in the rotation. Another solid outing.

this is the 1st game I have watched Verrett start. He's definitely solid and I like Robles a lot

He also pitched a gem in Colorado when the Mets starters had thrown batting practice the two games prior. Thank God the Texas Rangers didn't keep him in the rule 5 draft. Sandy almost screwed up there.

I think 11. Should clinch by middle of next week.

If my beloved Metropolitans play .500 ball the rest of the way, and the Nationals play an astounding .900 ball the rest of the way, the Mets still win the division.

Of course, given a lifetime of Met fandom, you'd think I'd know better by now and keep my mouth shut (or my keyboard busy spewing out meaningless drivel, like commenting on new NFL uniforms or something).

Phillies just tied the Nats in the bottom of the 10th. Nats bullpen is atrocious.

2 amazing stats

Cespedes hit 18 HRs in 102 games with the Tigers, and has 17 in 41 games with the Mets.

and

d'Arnaud has a .571 slugging pct.

Im fine moving Travis to first eventually to make room behind the plate and Duda has cooled off

Not a bad idea. I really like Plawecki.

when you take Travis numbers and apply them to Duda's at bats he beats him in pretty much every offensive category except for walks and he has higher OBP and also makes contact a lot more. At least that's what I would do. Seems like a Sandy type of thing to me also

The Mets have forgotten how to do one thing-lose. :) Went to Met Dodger game couple of months ago when the Mets seemed to be the worst hitting team in BB and were wasting great pitching. Now they are one of the best hitting teams in BB. Quite a turnaround! :)

You're essentially trading Duda's bat for Plawecki's, which is not a upgrade. Duda may be in a slump but he can become torrid at any moment (see July). Longterm this may work to ease the wear and tear on injury prone Travis. But short term, no.

If by short term you mean this year I agree; but I disagree with your assessment of the move because you are trading D'Arnaud's bat over a full season + Plawecki for a mediocre Duda. Duda has a sluggers body and a leadoff hitters mentality and approach. But that is for next spring training, if at all. This year, full steam ahead.......

Dude still has a lot of room for improvement and he has tremendous power. I could see him hitting 35-40 homeruns , 100 rbis and .270 average when he learns to be consistently disciplined and go the other way, where he still has home run power. I like Plawecki and of course D'Arnaud, but having two catchers is a nice problem to have, especially since D'Arnaud gets banged up a lot.

This offseason both d'Arnaud and Flores should both pick up 1B gloves. You can keep Duda away from a tough lefty, while keeping d'Arnaud's bat in the lineup while he gets his breaks from catching. Flores meanwhile can be a supersub, and play all infield positions in a pinch, while also having his bat in the lineup.

Plawecki looks like he will be an solid player, so this would be a win-win.

I like Duda but he's just too inconsistent for me. Remember when we had the worst offense in baseball back in may/June. He was part of the problem. I think his eventual cost will be more than his worth down the line. But the Mets definitely got it right when they kept Duda over Ike Davis.

Having bats in front and behind him should help him see more strikes. If he gets more disciplined and lays off bad pitches, he can be a solid 4 hitter. I like the idea of a platoon. D'Arnaud as a catcher should play no more than 135-140 games total, and the more games he plays other than behind the plate will prolong his career. If he catches 100-110 games, there are plenty of opportunities for Plawecki to get ABs.

It might be time for Degrom to be skipped in the rotation. Tough outing. Six runs and ten hits in five innings.
