Mets

If this team had any kind of a middle bullpen, they'd be at least 20 games over .500. Very freaking frustrating.

. I agree but man how many times do the Mets cling to the pitch count? Collins is not the manager he is alderson's gofer/messenger boy. You can smell the collapse coming.

No way O'Flaherty can be in this game in that situation based on his past performance. He did not get the lefty out. Kelly Johnson made a miraculous play.

Collins is a joke when it comes to the bullpen. I know his options are limited. But...deGrom could have stayed in. You leave O'gonna give up a hit in? Just leave Goeddell in.

A collapse? Does it always come to that?
. Probably like you a long time Mets fan and I just have no confidence in the organization or manager, or players for that matter. Like the last few times they have contended they have just kept the Nationals in the race the last week by playing lousy ball against bad teams. As you pointed out their relief pitching until they get to Clippard and Familia stinks and their starters have turned human. All pointing to this race seriously changing by the middle of next week after going to D.C. Hope I am wrong.

Just when you thought Colon was shot, he turns in 3 gems in a row. His behind the back toss to first base was one of those highlight reel plays. On a day where Harvey astounds NYers by his Boras advised stance to shut himself down after 180 innings, Colon for a few hours at least, becomes the big story.

Simply amazing that Harvey's max innings weren't clear all year to all parties.

Done with the drama queen Harvey all season bitching about extra rest 6 man rotation, bitched in sept last year when mets wouldn't let him pitch. He talks a good game, I would trade him to Boston for Xavier boegarts and Brock holt. Throw in Flores to even it out.

I sympathize with Harvey's predicament but can't stand his personality. Trade him to Colorado for hitting and let him suffer there.

If we weren't talking about a guy who is easily one of the ten top pitchers in MLB, your point may be valid.

As fans, we wanted Santana to throw the first Mets no hitter, which is he did in almost 140 pitches. That could have been his last great major league outing.

The Mariners would not allow Felix Hernandez to throw a slider the first few years of his major league career.

Nolan Ryan stresses conditioning over pitch counts. As a guy who pitched at an extremely high level after the age of 40, he believes pitch counts are hurting young arms. He pitched in an era where many pitchers threw 300 innings in a season. Beginning in 1975, Ryan threw 6 days out of seven. He didn't miss a start from that point on for 13 seasons. His work on the stationary bike was legendary, with post game interviews often conducted with him getting his legwork conditioning in. It's a good baseball argument. Who agrees with him? Well, Tommy John for one.

I think Mike Vaccaro's idea is great.

"They can have Harvey throw his swan-song start Tuesday at Washington. And then they can realize Harvey may actually have helped them solve their most daunting problem spot: the seventh inning. Convert him to a one-inning specialist. See how that might play in an October that they are still very much on play for, despite Harvey’s brutal 24-and-1 play here."

. Harvey will not resign with the Mets anyway so I am also for trading him. He is a poster boy for the "new, me first" athlete.

And the throats tighten as the Mets blow another one late to a lousy team. Tough to root for but I am hooked, they make choking an art form.

I like Harvey a lot because he s a bulldog that gives us swag but he needs to shut the F up and if it comes to it we might need to eventually trade him and get monster return because I hate no agent more than Boras

To be completely fair, Harvey did not initiate this. I do believe that without Boras Harvey would not have brought this up, and instead was put in the position of going against his agent's advice (and likely having to fire him or get dropped) or to have to publicly respond and go along.

What is Boras' end objective? Well looking out for his client's best interest and making money are one and the same. Since Harvey doesn't come up for free agency until 2019, he could be concerned about his long term health by going beyond 180.

I think it comes down do the 2016 season arbitration salary for the eligible Harvey. More than likely, he likes Harvey's stat line right now with a 2.60 ERA, low whip, and 13-14 wins, rather than a pitcher who never went beyond 180 stumbling to the finish with a tired arm and a few losses in a possible Mets collapse.

Just my opinion, at 29, Harvey will likely get only one grab at megabucks, and he is trusting Boras to maximize that. The reason Boras didn't bring this up before, is that at this point in the season he likes Harvey's stat line just fine as is. Harvey's ERA is a staggering 6plus after 100 pitches, so Boras knows the effect a tired arm could have on him.

We control Harvey until 2019 so why trade him?
I would hang onto him for the next 2 seasons and see what develops
