Mets

guess i missed Parnell's implosion tonight huh?

Nats blew another lead to the Cards. Still six and a half.

all of the sudden, Niese seems to be slowing down after a strong summer.

while we were getting crushed I checked the Nats score, they were up 4-0. Checked the score this morning and they blew it. We can strongly assume they don't have the goods to catch the NYM. A team that should be 25 games over .500 and is middling at 66-65 is an imploding one if you ask me.

What is with bringing in Parnell after we came back to close a six run lead to 2.

I would rather pitch a position player than him going forward. O flaherty as well. Neither better be on post season roster

O'Flaherty should be shown the door now. He can't even get out lefties.

Luckily for us the Nats stink and it looks like Matt Williams is trying to get fired so we held e lead.

Was at the last game in 07 and 08, so I take nothing for granted. In fact I still can't stand to hear "sweet child o mine"-Tom Glavine's warm up music. Whenever I hear it I get the same reaction Kramer would get when he would hear Mary Hart's voice.

Maybe the Nats can't catch the Mets, but history tells us the Mets can catch the Nationals if they don't get it back in gear.

They were 20-9 in August. The last five games have been sloppy but no reason to panic. If we get swept by the Nats next week............./

It's always the "ifs" that kill Mets fans :)

Who would have thought Colon would be our ace down the stretch. I hope these young arms aren't too tired for the stretch run.

I'm as pessimistic as the next guy, but what history? Besides Wright, NONE of these guys were here for that. Murph might have been here for '08, but all those guys are gone.

It's amazing that as soon as Mets announcers began talking about Colon's first pitch strike ratio (something like 85%), and propensity to rely primarily on his fastball that he completely changes things up throwing off speed breaking balls and operates on the corners. Two pitching gems when the Mets really needed them, especially given Niese getting smacked around in his last 2 starts.

Ok... Mets win and hold their lead. A mere 16-13 finish would force the Nats to roar home at 23-7 - certainly doable considering what the Cubs just accomplished. Every day that the Mets hold or extend this lead, the more impossible it will be for Washington. This lineup, with Wright a reasonable semblance of himself, D'Arneau hitting ropes, and Conforto looking very much like a future all-star, is now a dangerous lineup with a very deep and experienced bench. Matz arrives back in town soon enough to allow the young arms to miss a start without losing an ounce of talent.

All the Mets have to do is come up a reasonable 6th and 7th inning pitching option, which is their biggest deficiency right now, and this will be a team that can make a lot of noise come October.

Reed from Arizona will hopefully contribute, and if they make the playoffs, two starters could go to the pen. i have no idea how they will do the rotation for playoffs. TC has said he doesn't want the youngins put in non-starter roles. Colon could be interesting as a 6th/7th if they were to do it, and if they change minds, a Matz or Viking could be okay in that role two as they throw hard. but with the truncated playoffs, the middle relief may get better just by default.

Nats seem to be a hot mess right now.

All good points. Agree 100%.

Nats are a mess, but as you know in baseball a team can catch fire as quick as it takes to turn on a light switch.

aye, Boras.

again, baseball has become a game for pansies.

When agents decide how many innings a pitcher can pitch,
When the courts decide if an NFL player can be suspended or not, or has been given due process,
The joy is slowly being sucked out of a boy's game that men cling to.

Sad.

I wish the courts would instead focus on trampling on the religious rights of Muslims or anyone except Christians. But of course, they don't have the time or guts to do that.

fwiw

aye, the drama

This is a dumbass ploy by Boras. A few years ago Strasberg was shut down for the playoffs when he hit his innings limit in early Sept. The Mets have been nursing innings for Harvey, and for this franchise a World Series has come exactly 4 times in 54 seasons. Of course, Boras has his 10% cut at stake in Harvey's next contract, which could be as much as $20 million.
