Mets

The criticism of Cespedes on that play was somewhat justified though...he didn't budge, had his hands on knees that whole play. Lagares saw it hit above the line, so I don't fault him.

Ugly damn game. Verrett gave away another good Harvey start (is Matt cursed or something?), but not sure the Mets should have won this game. Lots of LOBs, and the runs they scored were mistakes anyway (error, Flores running through Tuefel's stop sign and Boston pitchers walking everyone).

peace

I was at the game and sat by third base (way up). It was probably the best view I've eve had a t a baseball game. I was screaming for Cespedes to get after that ball when it came off the bat. He just stood there hunched over with his hands on his knees. The batter ran 360 feet and all he had to do was run 100--whether or not it was over the wall is immaterial. Even Granderson moved more from RF and he had no chance. I'm not sure I've ever seen a lazier play in my life.

What was TC thinking batting Tejada with the bases loaded against a righty with the game tied in the bottom of the 7th and the bases loaded? Infuriating. He had big lefty bats in Conforto and Murphy and a big righty bat in Uribe. Tejada is batting .251 against lefties this year with no homers. Murphy is batting .304 against lefties with 9 homers and has been tearing the cover off the ball for over a month now. You don't get a more tailor-made pinch hitting situation than that...second base is Murphy's natural position and Flores has played a 100 games at short stop...just slide him over from second.

I am as positive a Mets fan as there is, but Terry Collins is garbage. They beat the piss out of some awful NL teams but they can't beat a good team or win a close game with help form the dugout. Has TC made a good pitching decision once this year? I'm sure he has, but it really feels like he blows every single one and that is a huge reason why Harvey and deGrom don't have 30-35 combined win with their insane ERAs.

Every other manager in baseball pinch-hits Murphy in that situation but TC.

Not so sure i agree with you. Why take out your best defensive shortstop in a tie game. Bases were loaded but there were two outs. I think plenty of managers leave Tejada in the game there. tejada finished the game 2-3 with two walks. Some would say he had a productive night with the bat.

They started a lefty, so the results before didn't matter. I'm fine with Tejada batting over Murphy or Conforto against a lefty. But he's a .250 hitter against righties and Murphy has killed them his whole career and has never been hotter. A single by Murphy there would have blown the game open with Clippard and Familia to close it out and Conforto on hand to pinch hit for the pitcher's spot due up next. Murphy also has a great eye.

I don't think there is even a question. If there was nobody on or just a runner on first, then, yeah. But bases loaded against a pitcher that just walked in the tying run and had to throw a fastball and arguably our best contact hitter and hottest player on the bench? You go for the jugular.

I don't trust Terry Collins in close games. Look at the seven game winning streak...Logan Varrett left no question with eight innings and only one run allowed. They scored over 14 runs three times. It left no room for Collins to mess it up.

The only excuse I can find for Collins' pitching decisions is his pathetic bullpen, not much you can do with Robles, Torres and O'Flaherty (Can't believe this guy is still in the majors). Agree about Tejada.

Murphy has to be the dumbest baseball player I ever have seen play. His stupid decision to go for a double play instead of getting the slow footed Sandoval at home. First of all you teach little leaguers to think where they would go with the ball if hit to them. Murphy should have known the speed of Holt before going for two. Dumb, dumb. His poor decisions with his throws and base running drives me crazy. He has zero baseball sense. And I don't buy the fact that.he doesn't have a set position for his dumb decisions. However, he is one of the better hitters on the Mets.

The current series against the Red Sox represents the first series in which the Mets have dropped the first two home games versus Boston since the 1986 World Series.

Obviously, a world championship is just days away :)

Don't know if the deal for Addison Reed is official yet but earlier in the year the D'backs demoted him to Reno. Recently, however, he has thrown well allowing only 3 earned runs in 16 and one third innings of relief. Can't be worse then O'Flaherty!

It's a long season guys. Relax. 5 1/2 game lead. It's not a lock by any means, but they can't win them all. This is the best Mets team easily since 2006, and maybe going back to the late 80s. Baseball is so agonizingly slow to watch, but because of that allows for so much analysis on everything that happens. Just enjoy it. This should be fun. :)

I believe it's official. We demoted Verrett and can't recall him for 10 days to make room.

That's unfortunate. Would've been nice to give Verrett another spot start to maybe rest Syndergaard. Should've DFA'd OFlaherty. He's a complete disaster.

Is it at all possible that Alvarez is worse then O'Flaherty?

I'm starting to think that we may need to take one of of young guns and move them to the bullpen for September. This will almost certainly be rejected as their arms are precious, and several of them have already had serious arm injuries.

However, it's sickening to watch 6 inning gems be wasted as the middle relief guys squander 2 and 3 run leads and pitching masterpieces with regularity. Having an arm like Matz come out for the 7th inning, then go to Clippard and Familia could be game over if you have a two run lead after 6.

I think that will happen in the playoffs. I believe Nolan Ryan was moved to the bullpen for the 69 series. Not sure who the Mets would relegate, but it would shore up a shaky middle pen.

Sid Fernandez in relief was a key to 1986.

and our resident chunky pitcher Bartolo starting to make his case for a spot on the playoff roster as either starter or reliever????

another good outing for him against the lousy Phils.

Nats playing Cards this week...

good chance to push that lead.

Conforto may be fun to watch for years...kid really can hit some.

peace

and Nats blow 5-3 lead to Cards, back to 6.5 game lead. :)

Really important win last night. Over past 2 days Mets have clipped 2 games off the schedule and added a game to their lead. With 31 games left, a 17-14 finish for the Mets would force the Nats to close 24-8 to tie them. If Matz returns to the team and shows the form he displayed in his 2 NL starts, it will just be icing on the cake.

Playoff baseball is becoming more and more likely each day.

Really eye opening today to look at some of the WS odds. Most have it ordered:
Royals
Blue Jays
Cardinals
Dodgers/Mets

I even saw a few that had us as the 3rd favorite ahead of STL and LA. Crazy

was there a poster here who put money on the mets to win the WD at the beginning of the season ? For one reason that sticks in my mind

Mets in 5 games. Odds mean nothing in baseball playoffs.

What is with bringing in Parnell after we came back to close a six run lead to 2.
