Mets

I think our only chance of signing Cespedes is if we go far in the playoffs. His contract was designed specifically so he can get top dollar. Obviously I don't know him but I just think he is going to want to go for top dollar and that type of thing takes time because this will be his 1 monster contract and the Coupons I have no faith in. So to me the chances fall close to zero so I'll just enjoy this ride and hope for something special this year on the field

BTW I'm getting pretty tired of hearing about innings limits on the starters. F innings pitched. Wonder what the total pitches are. That's more important than innings pitched

Harvey was real efficient. 88 pitches today

You guys are forgetting about Duda. We offered him 30 million for three years in the off season and he turned us down. His arbitration number could go up a lot with two 30 home run seasons in a row.

Duda was crazy to turn that down. He'll be 32 when he hits free agency. I don't think his first year of arbitration will be very high...maybe 7 mill or so. He's already making 4.2 mill.

This is not the steroid era. 30 home runs is a lot. Arbitration number could be a lot higher then you think.

while Duda is certainly playing well now I want to see how he finishes the season because he goes way too cold for my taste. We can move Travis to first and play the kid behind the plate

I'm not sure if you have a good understanding of arbitration. The highest first year arbitration award of all-time was only 10 mill and that went to Ryan Howard following a 49 homer season and two years removed from his amazing MVP season (.313 58 HR 149 RBI .425 OBP). Buster Posey got 8 mill in 2013 after winning the batting title and MVP (.336 24 HR 103 RBI .403 OBP)

Duda is batting .248 this year and for his career. He has a slightly below average glove, he never hit more than 15 homers in his career until last season, and has never had more than 27 combined doubles and triples in a season. He's also batting just .231 lifetime against lefties with just 14 career homers (.180 and two homers last year), so the jury is still very much out on whether he can be more than a platoon player beyond this season considering his age (30 in February). David Wright is only three years older (and a much better talent) and the overwhelming feeling on him is that his career has been on the decline for at least a few years.

Duda was foolish to decline the 30 mill and would be very fortunate to get even 7 mill in his first year of arbitration. He is a very risky contract for any team with very little upside due to his age. What happens if, like so many guys, his skills fall off sharply at 31 or 32? It's not like he's falling from David Wright's .330 average and .400 OBP...his fall starts from .250 and could render him unplayable as fast as Ike Davis.

Gutty win. Wilmer comes through again and Conforto too

Easily could have been a loss. These wins are the difference between the teams that play in October and those that watch. deGrom wasn't at his best, Familia wasn't at this best, but they both got the job done when it mattered.

This is the first time in many years that I am watching baseball in August
Usually, by now, I can't wait for the NFL pre-season games to start
I just hope that I am watching baseball in September and, hopefully, October

I actually watch the post game broadcast now. Ron Darling is great in the booth but definitely not doing play by play

Definitely not as good with his play by play. Gary Cohen is one of the best in the biz IMO but Ronny has such a wealth of baseball knowledge which is a great compliment to Gary.

Agreed. Keith also. They are a great listen. Sometimes when my eyes are fried from staring at the computer at wk all day I'll just turn the game on and lay on my couch and listen to them instead of watching the game

I grew up on Kiner and Murphy, and loved them both. I think if you listed the top ten voices of my childhood, they'd be way up there on my list. Like comfort food to your ears, they defined many summers for me, whether glued to a tv set, or listening to games on transistor radios while playing games of our own in the schoolyards of Queens.

With holy deference to both, I absolutely love Cohen-Hernandez-Darling. Unlike McCarver, who grated against you after a long while because his knowledge of the game began to sound condescending, Cohen-Darl-Hern have a wealth of knowledge of the game, and a reverence for the deep history of it. Darling and Hernandez have such domain expertise in pitching and hitting, that just listening to them is like a 3 credit course in baseball. They are respectful of each other and of players, and seem to be unabashed huge fans of baseball in an era where multi-millionaire athletes sometimes seem above it all.

Soak up this season guys. Now they they've got a few bats and shored up the bullpen, this is a legitimate pennant contender. August and September figure to be a very sweet ride for fans who are at heart true boys of summer.

This is one area in which the Mets clearly are superior to the Yankees
The Mets broadcasting team is superb
John Sterling and Suzy Waldman just plain suck!!

What? No Lindsey Nelson? Can't have Kiner and Murphy without Lindsey Nelson! Hello everybody, this is Lindsey Nelson along with Ralph Kiner and Bob Murphy! :)

Lindsey Nelson (those colorful jackets were purchased when baseball started to broadcast in color) left after 17 years, and yes, you are right was a great announcer as well. Kiner and Murphy spent a lifetime with the Mets, Kiner 52 seasons, and Murphy 41. So much bigger than merely baseball, they were in our homes and cars all those years. Not a Yankees fan, but I also loved Rizzuto

I'm watching the game and they are losing and I pass out on my couch from a food coma and I wake up and we won. Makes my stomach ache feel that much better

Starting to feel like shades of 1969 when we pulled wins out of our a$$
Yankees - Mets World Series Part Deux????

I'm not so granular. I love the broadcast team, and how much they respect each other. A few years ago, they had Strawberry in the booth for a few innings and it was so clear how much affection Darling and Hernandez had for him, which I never had understood before. As far as the three go, they have a deep sense of reverence for baseball, baseball history, and Mets history in particular.
