Mets

FLORES !!!! Wow so happy for the kid

Who would have thought in a week he'd be one of my favorite players

Oh man, how could you not love the kid. He's been a part of the Mets organization since he was 16. You want guys that want to be on your team and him breaking down and crying like that when he thought he was traded was one of the most humanizing moments I've ever witnessed in all of sports.

To add, something that may have been overlooked because of the feel good ending of last night's game, was Harvey's performance. He is slowly getting there. If his last two starts is what we will see from him going forward, then bring it on.

And, hanging pictures of the character Harvey from an episode of the Homeymooners after strikeouts was brilliant.
Keith Hernandez had the story wrong as he stated Ralph was sitting next to this little guy who went and got his friend Harvey instead of Ralph and the little guy arguing over the use of the pool table. Unforgettable! :)

One of my favorite episodes
"I got a friend Shoiley who's bigger than you"

"Hey, get a load of fatso over there."

"I guess the phrase just fits."

That ain't your friend? That ain't your friend? That means I knocked him out with one punch!
Go get Harvey! Hey Harvvveee!

No Wheeler. Two minor leaguers. Not id'd yet.

Edit: it's Michael Fulmer and Luis Cessa. Nos. 7 and 16 prospects in system

Great trade if you ask me.

Well, it's not really a trade, if you think about it. A trade would indicate that BOTH teams got something of value. That's not what happened here.

Sounds to me like you guys fleeced them (and the Mets usually do well with trades, as is). This one has a chance to be special for you guys.

Fullmer is tearing up AA with a 2.02 ERA and is a former first round pick. He is a top-of-the-rotation pitcher that will be MLB ready next season. That is a tremendous value to Detroit for a rental. We also gave them a top 20 prospect on top of that.

I am not happy that we gave up Fuller, but I love the Cespedes addition and would likely have pulled the trigger as well.

You always have a lot of detail to your posts, and I love that. I did read one account of Fullmer that said scouts assessed him as a middle of the rotation guy. I think it was Lennon that thought the Mets overpaid. Most seem to like the deal. One thing is clear, is that unless you hope to catch lightning in a bottle and make the playoffs because the stars magically align, you have to make some bold mid season moves. Cespedes is a proven middle of the lineup entity, and should the Mets make the playoffs, will feel pressure to sign him long term.

Sellout last night, mostly due to it being fireworks night. Duda provided the in game explosions.

They needed to make a move. Cespedes is much better than Gomez IMO. It's great to have all of these young pitchers, but we only really need 5-6 and we've still got that many young talented arms. To say that Fulmer doesn't constitute value, though, is pretty far from the truth. He will be a good starter.

Agree. Alderson claimed most teams were interested in Fullmer in their trade talks.

I don't particularly think much of Williams as a manager. Remember in last years playoffs he took out Zimmerman, who was having a sparkling performance, after he walks the first batter in the later innings. Result? A big loss. Last night he chose to pitch to Duda who is hotter then a horney nympo. If Williams ever decided to check the stats he would have discovered Cespedes was hitting .178 against lefties and over .300 against righties. Duh! BTW, Duda had a .298 average against lefties. Duh!
If Williams doesn't get the Nats in the series I believe he's a goner. Just my opinion.

Not being able to comprehend my post is far from the truth. I said that while Lennon said the Mets overpaid for Cespedes by giving up a frontline prospect, I had also read that many scouts rates Fullmer a middle of the rotation guy, in other words a #3 pitcher, which isn't exactly a lack of value. Thanks for your response though.

On the other hand, 3 HRs in one inning to open up a 5-1 lead is pretty amazing.

Heard one of those 2 umpires in the 1st row is El Chapo in disguise who is a big baseball fan

Haha I was referring to the original post I replied to for that part. I agree with you.

Sirvoo don't you dare post on this thread until the game is over

Or Jumbo_Peanuts will wish his team to lose just to teach another lesson. How about that guy....worst fan on the planet?

Haha I was about to last night but thought better of it. I also suffer from the same in-game syndrome with Terry Collins that I had with Lavin. Guy drives me nuts sometimes so I will only post in-between games. With that said lets get big Bartolo on the bump tonight and keep this momentum going!!!
