Mets

No Wheeler. Two minor leaguers. Not id'd yet.

Edit: it's Michael Fulmer and Luis Cessa. Nos. 7 and 16 prospects in system

Great trade if you ask me.

Well, it's not really a trade, if you think about it. A trade would indicate that BOTH teams got something of value. That's not what happened here.

Sounds to me like you guys fleeced them (and the Mets usually do well with trades, as is). This one has a chance to be special for you guys.

cespedes is coming

I absolutely love this move, never thought it would happen. We now have a legitimate #3 hitter with power. Time to send Conforto back. Hopefully the cheapo Wilpons sign Cespedes next year. We shall see.

He had to do something to try and make it look like they were trying to play in October but of course his hands were tied to only looking at guys that didn't need to be paid in 2016. With those limitations he did the best you could expect. Commissioner and other owners should figure out how to force the Wilpons to sell.

Fantastic trade but do you guys see this as a long term solution as well. He's due for a big pay day at the end of the season so what are your thoughts?

I think there is virtually no chance the coupon's resign him unless we dump salary somehow like getting rid of cuddyer next year who will make close to 13 million

When the Sox got Cespedes last season, within no time they were talking of dumping him because the rumors were that his attitude is a cancer in the clubhouse. Not sure if that diminished his value at the trading deadline, but there is no question he will be on a salary drive in terms of his production with the Mets.

FWIW, this is everything coming off the books at the end of the year:

Bartolo Colon $10m
Juan Uribe $7.5m
Tyler Clippard $8.3m
Daniel Murphy $8m
Bobby Parnell $3.7m
Jerry Blevins $2.4m
Kelly Johnson $1.5m
Jenrry Mejia $2.6m (presumably off the books already)

Some of these guys have to be replaced and we have seen what happens when you have a team of minor leaguers.

Gary, Ron and Keith were talking, earlier in tonight's game, about the guy who rang the cow bell at Shea as well as Citi.

For those of a certain age you may remember another character who use to dress up as The Lone Ranger, that fellow was Tom Droleskey (St. John's, Class of 1973).

I just discovered that he wrote a book about The Met's as well as his adventures.

Terry is clueless. The kid is dying out there and you leave him out there. What's the point in clippard warming up for 20 min if you're not going to go to him?

FLORES !!!! Wow so happy for the kid

Who would have thought in a week he'd be one of my favorite players

A long time ago a Mets team with an anemic offense acquired a legitimate bat in June, Donn Clendenon. His acquisition solidified the middle of the lineup, and provided enough of a boost to help ignite a late tear by the Mets to obliterate a 9.5 game Cubs lead, win their division, and ultimately a World Series championship. The title "Amazin' Mets", bestowed by Stengel suddenly took on a magical tone, and for an entire generation of young fans created a perdurable bond that became necessary to sustain a following for a franchise that always had more dark days than glorious ones.

The last few days have been incredibly surprising for Mets fans, who fully expected the Wilpons to do what they've done throughout their reign as owners - not enough. Suddenly a flurry of acquisitions have strengthened the lineup and the bullpen. Throw in the drama of a player traded, allowed to remain on the field, when he reacted to the fans ovation by tears of sadness at departing. Within 48 hours, the trade cancelled, he creating a storybook moment for himself and the franchise, by launching a game winning walk-off homerun in extra innings. It may just be the defining moment for a team trying to catch fire. If history is on the side of the Mets, it could become a moment no one in baseball ever forgets.

Exciting days ahead for the Mets. Now all they have to do is win.

To add, something that may have been overlooked because of the feel good ending of last night's game, was Harvey's performance. He is slowly getting there. If his last two starts is what we will see from him going forward, then bring it on.

And, hanging pictures of the character Harvey from an episode of the Homeymooners after strikeouts was brilliant.

Did you see the panel on the average fastball of the 5 hardest throwing starting pitchers in the NL? Three were Mets. (and Matz would be in the top 5 also if he were active)

I figured that was you at the game

One of my favorite episodes
"I got a friend Shoiley who's bigger than you"
