Mets

Montero mentioned as one of two minor league pitchers for the Braves players Juan Uribe and Kelly Johnson, both hitting about a hundred points higher than our Campbell/Kirk/Mayberry types.

I don't think that these two aging veterans are the answer
Better than what we have but certainly not what I was hoping for

Supposedly we have bodies at the Rockies Reds game doing some serious, serious scouting.

Also, Wheeler's name is being thrown around quite a bit now. Not sure about that one.

I don't think they where meant to be the answer...just a couple of pieces to fill in the puzzle more. Uribe is really raking this year...and you know Sandy loves the .350 OBP and ability to play all IF positions.

I think this was a very good trade for both teams. Atlanta gets two prospects back for guys they would have lost to free agecy anyway and save some money to finish their disappointing season.

Mets get two rentals with good defensive flexibility and much better offense than they previously had at third and first lefty off the bench.
And we didn't have to part with any of our top talent.

This removes us from the hunt for Zobrist. I think they turn their attention to Upton for Montero, but I bet they kick the tires one last time for a Frazier and/or Jay Brice mega deal with Cincy and one last attempt to get a reasonable offer from the Rockies fir Tulo.

Mayberry DFA'd!!! Muno demoted. Much needed moves. Little surprised re: Mayberry being DFA'd, thought it would be Campbell. Oh well, we are a better team either way.

Niese got bombed today. Should have sold high.

Terry should not have put him out there with his wife about to give birth. That's a no brainer no matter what the player says. I mean c'mon now.
Not a no brainer because if it was Terry would have done it as he has no brain.

If no more moves are made, would you be satisfied?
I, for one, would certainly not be
In our history, the Mets have not had lots of opportunities to make the playoffs
They have to take the shot when the opportunity presents itself
Now, if they get Upton, Bruce, Frazier or Tulo, it's a different story
I just don't see that happening but I hope I am wrong

23 RBI in 230 AB is raking it? Am I missing something or is he also on the grounds crew?

His head wasn't in the game for obvious reasons, and was just placed on paternity leave, as his mind clearly was on his wife who was going into labor. He was very upset when he learned that his wife went into labor and wasn’t there for her, but was able to watch his son being born on FaceTime in the Mets clubhouse.

Congrats and best of luck with the kid.

No, I would not be happy. The Mets window to produce in the postseason start now. It may only be a 5-6 window.

I think Alderson has the backing of the Wilpons to spend and pull the trigger on a Piazza-like trade. I think he's looking at Tulo (Wheeler, Conforto, Neise) and a deal for both Bruce and Frazier with Cincy. The Rockies love Conforto and what he could do at that stadium over the next decade.

I think the more realistic choice would be Upton. The Padres will drop their ransom demands 48 hours before the deadline. They don't want to pay the rest of his contract for an already lost season and get nothing in return for him when he hits free agency in a few months.

In a dream scenario, we convince the Rockies to take Cuddyer back in exchange for including Conforto over Nimmo/Cecchini and then deal Montero and a hitting prospect outside of the top 10-15 for Upton. But that is the Mets dreamer in me.

Alderson loves his former first-round pick, Fullmer, who is pitching really well in AA and looks like a front-end starter. He is 5-2 with a 2.02 ERA for Binghamton.

Kind of sad, but that is raking for the 2015 Mets.
He's batting .285 with Atlanta with a very impressive .353 OBP and has seven homers is just 151 at bats for them. Not bad for a fat old guy :) I'm sure you have to adjust that down due to the switch to a pitcher-friendly stadium and the effects of a long season on an older player, but it's a different world from .176 average and three homers from Campbell and the .164 average and three homers from Mayberry.

I have never been so happy to see a player leave as I am with Mayberry. The guy was brought in to do one thing, hit lefties, and he was only hitting .175 against them. Useless. Muno was useless too. This was the ugliest bench in the league, but these two additions really help. I'm probably one of the few, but I like Kirk N. on the bench notwithstanding his awful slump to start the year.

nice day at the plate for conforto today

And Captain Kirk!
Conforto: 4-4, 4 runs scored, 2 doubles, 1 RBI, 1 walk
Captain Kirk: 4-4, 2 runs scored, 4 RBI, 1 walk and one awesome assist to get Joc at 2nd

Great debut from Kelly Johnson going 2-6 with a homer and two RBI. Pretty sad that a reserve from Atlanta was good enough to walk in day one and bat cleanup for us. Conforto was a lot faster than I expected he'd be. Pretty athletic.

yeah conforto definitely quicker than I thought. Not a speed deamon but pretty athletic.

Heard on wfan yesterday that his dad played linebacker for Paterno which I thought was interesting

His mother won two Olympic gold medals in synchronized swimming as well.

That was fun. Good stuff from Johnson in his debut and Conforto. Felt like the whole lineup just elevates a level when you have some guys who can sting the ball a little bit. That said, you're as good as your next day's pitcher...

Greinke v. DeGrom.

Somehow pull out a win of any sort, and that could be one of those wins that could turn around a season?

At least these guys makin' me dream a li'l. That alone is an accomplishment for the Mets. I hope that Colon and Niese can maintain a certain level of efficiency (the former seems to be coming down to earth a bit, and Niese with that weird duality when compared to his effectiveness in a six man 'tation). And Tejada could be vital. I never liked the idea of Flores at short...just an old school thing where your defense should be strong up the middle (C, SS, 2B, CF). It'll be interesting to see how Terry handles Kelly Johnson...do you take Murph out the line up a bit more, Flores, or even Duda?

Try and take down Greinke and that streak of his...

peace.

Man, Greinke doesn't let you get much...while Familia's blown save hurt, to have Uribe deliver a walk-off game winner (missed homer by a couple of inches) in this game and not waste a gem by DeGrom qualifies as a helluva win.

Keep the momentum going against San Diego and maybe that series at home against the Nats could be worth following closely (only two games out despite the worst O this side of pre-Kelly Lee Bad News Bears? I'll take it!).

deGrom should easily have 15 wins. It sucks when a guy goes 7-8 innings like that throwing shutout ball and doesn't get the win.

Uribe has always been clutch. I can't believe his fielding is still that sharp for his age and his weight. Uribe did in one game here what it took Cuddyer something like seven years to do...a walk off RBI. I couldn't believe that stat when it happened.

I'm happy that we got the win but honestly I'm not jumping for joy or anything. I'm pissed that degrominator got hosed

I got over it. Winning a game against Grienke and Uribe's shot on an 0-2 count against one of the better closers in the league were special.

Uribe pulled hamstring in celebration. got tight in the locker room. going for mri tomorrow
